CALLING ALL BOOKWORMS! I‘m putting together a semester long project for my 9th grade readers and I would love to share with them what the reading lives of readers looks like! I‘d love to hear how your engage with reading in your life, how reading is social for you, and/or why reading is important to you.

bookishkris First, reading has always been a part of my life so it‘s just always been important. It‘s my therapy, my primary entertainment, in some ways my addiction. A new book is a new adventure. As for social stuff, Litsy and a group for nannies who read on Facebook. And I love talking with other book lovers; I‘ve been known to hand-sell my faves while browsing in bookstores. 13mo
Itchyfeetreader Great project. The way I read continues to evolve. In the winter reading is part of my daily bed time routine; I read every night before bed. Most days I will read when commuting between home and work although the return leg is when I catch up on the newspapers! I tend to read non fiction in physical form but are more open to kindle for fiction (I like looking at maps, footnotes etc). I also tend to have a fiction & non fiction on the go at once 13mo
KeepCalmWithBooksAndCoffee This is great! Reading has been changing for me since I moved. My commute is less than 10 minutes now so I‘ve been finding new ways to fit in audiobooks. I always try and fit in some physical reading during the evening as well and I read during down time at work whenever I can. Socially I have a few friends IRL who I can talk books with but I also have a blog, goodreads, Twitter, YouTube and Litsy where I interact with people about books! 13mo
Lcsmcat Besides the book club/Litsy social aspect of reading, keeping a list, on paper or electronically, of what I read is important to me, as is noting quotes that speak to me - either by underlining/highlighting or, more often, jotting them down. I also read reviews and note books I want to read “someday.” Those are things you could ask a class to do for a project that would be more measurable than having them join a book club. 13mo
CouronneDhiver I‘ve always been a reader. With an IRL social circle who are mostly non-readers, my love of books has become a part of my “intelligent/nerd girl” identity. I‘ve left all other social media, but I love Litsy and BookTube because it provides validation and solidarity for that part of myself, I guess. 13mo

I really liked this book. And I loved the characters. This book captures fandom life and also how real and important and necessary online friends and life can be.

I kept waiting for this book to stop making me mad but it never did. I'm sure that she deeply cared about these men, and as an English major myself, I understand loving literature, but I just feel like every single chapter in this book was her adventures in privilege and her inability to see her students complexly.

Notafraidofwords Sigh, that would upset me. 3y

I loved this book. I loved their adorable friendship and the mystery and Jamie's dorky dad. This had many things that were squarely in my wheelhouse, most notably rich kids at boarding school, unaccompanied minors, and characters with complicated pasts.

Nicohlay Ooh this sounds interesting! I love anything Sherlock related 3y
Laalaleighh Rich kids in boarding schools and complicated pasts are squarely in my wheelhouse too! Any suggestions? Oh and have you read the raven cycle? 3y

Laalaleighh The raven cycle is one of my favorites. And the author is on Litsy! I haven't read we were liars but I have it on my shelf! I'll have to move it up my list! Thanks!! 3y
JillyG92 I'm not sure why I bought it, but I really enjoyed it. Can't wait to read the next one (and I completely concur about The Raven Cycle...the only book series I seriously thought of calling off sick to read. 3y

I really loved this book. I feel like I need to read it again to pick up all the things I missed on my way through it, but it was delightful and surprising and about so much of life. She has this very quiet, slow, and deliberate way of turning things over and over until she makes sense of them. It was disruptive and soothing at once. This was my first of her books, but it will not be the last.

ReadingEnvy I liked it too and I'm likely to reread the parts on silence especially 3y

On a day that made me feel frustrated, powerless, and invisible, I'm reminded I'm blessed to work with young people. In the face of so many circumstances that I cannot change, I will embrace the opportunities I have each day to do the things I can: I will talk them about the world they want to make. I will invite them to consider the world complexly. I will give them chances to experience the power of their own voices. #iamapublicschoolteacher

Sometimes I read kind of terrible books that make me think, "I could do that." This was like that except it's not a terrible book...just an enjoyable exhortation that if you think you've got stories, it's time to get to telling them. I got this as part of a Writer's Toolbox from my husband for Christmas and I think I'm ready to start using those sticky notes now...for my ideas. 10/10 would recommend.

Dude. I wish DNF meant I did not finish but I did finish. I was so pissed from the beginning of this book until the very last page. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to watch Emma Watson in a movie again because I was just picturing her face the whole way through and I hated her...the whole way through. This book had too much soap boxing, too many potentially interesting plot details that never pay off, and a naive heroine. Blah forever.

TrishB Great review 👍 3y
pjmayhair Forgive my ignorance but is Emma Watson in a movie version of this book I wonder why you think of her I haven't read the book so I don't know and if there's a movie I don't know about it 3y
MandyJohnson @pjmayhair Forgive me. Yes, she is. It comes out in a couple months I think and I had seen the trailer before I picked up the book so I couldn't separate her face from the story. 3y
