A great midle grade story that will enchant you and bring you on a magical journey. I had a lot of fun following Harry and his friends on their adventure. I love books that take place in magical school.

You know, I‘d be okay with more adult literature containing illustrations. It makes me more engaged! This is Harry Potter so technically for a younger audience and I‘d be engaged regardless, but why do illustrated texts seem to stop when we grow up???

Random list of books I want illustrated:
The Snow Child
The Earthsea Cycle
LOTR but that probably exists already
Shadow of the Wind/Everything by Zafón

What text would you like to see illustrated?

bookandbedandtea That's a great idea! I'd enjoy illustrated versions of Redshirts by John Scalzi, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley, and Unmarriageable by Soniah Kamal. 1d

OneStrangeGuy This is one of my all-time favorite series!! I have read it multiple times and now have The Cursed Child part I & II as well as both the Fantastic Beasts screenplays!! 1d
MartinaLove @OneStrangeGuy This is my first time reading it and I think I'm going to fall in love with this series. It's so magical and it's easy to loose yourself in it's fantastical world. I just bought book 2, two days ago, hopefully it will be here for next weekend challenge. I love Hagrid so much already. ❤ 1d
OneStrangeGuy @MartinaLove I still haven't figured out all these challenges, but I agree that you will fall in love with these books. Be prepared for the book hangover of a lifetime when you finish them all lol 1d
MartinaLove @OneStrangeGuy I think these books are going to make me cry. Are they sad? 1d

It doesn‘t matter how many times I read Harry Potter, I always manage to find something new, burst out in giggles, love Ronald Weasley‘s sarcasm, loyalty and attitude, Hermione Granger‘s independence, intelligence and wit, and finally, Harry Potter. A boy who lived a miserable life with his Aunty, Uncle and Cousin and then got told: “Yer a wizard Harry!”

Thewanderer92 @julesG thankfully Arya only has two more days with it on! 2d
julesG My cat managed to take it off. So she had to wear a cat onesie and I had to attach the cone to it. Felt like torchery. 2d
Thewanderer92 @julesG really? Arya took it off the first night even with how lethargic she was. But since then we were able to adjust it and it was better. 2d
julesG My cat is sooo tiny for a 2 year old (meanwhile), the smallest size cone was still roomy enough for her to wriggle free 2d
julesG And we had a tough 3 months after her operation. She had severe wound infection. I really feared for her life when she withdrew from all of us, hid in her igloo and wouldn't come out. 2d
Thewanderer92 @julesG that sounds horrific 😥 how is she now? 2d
julesG She's fine. The operation was last year in January. She was ill till April. Then I had to go to rehab for 4 weeks. It was a tough time but she's right as rain now. But, of course, the time had an impact on her. She used to sleep on my chest, now I can be happy when she sleeps next to my pillow. But, she's still as cuddly and tactile as she used to be. Check out some of my posts about my #GhostCat. 😉 2d
Thewanderer92 That‘s so good to hear. I‘m glad she had a quick recovery! 2d
Hufflepuffle Hope your kitty feels better soon!! Mine has been in for a procedure today after inhaling a blade of grass! Lots of TLC called for when he gets home 2d

I reread the HP series at least once every two years. Sometimes more. And every time I read it again, I discover something new.

IvoryLunatic Have you ever listened to it on audiobook? I felt like it was a whole new experience. I also really enjoy the new large illustrated books. It'll be a fun way to introduce Harry Potter to our kids because the illustrations are awesome. 3d
Thewanderer92 @IvoryLunatic No, I haven‘t. I find I really struggle to remain focussed when I‘m listening. I‘m more of a visual person. But I know if I have a long journey (driving or plane) ahead, I would prepare to listen to it. I might give it a go next time! I have all the illustrated versions that are available, I can‘t wait to introduce them to my future children. They won‘t have a choice in the matter 😂😂 3d
IvoryLunatic @Thewanderer92 I can't listen to audiobooks while I'm doing nothing else, I only do it while I'm doing something like driving, cooking, cleaning, etc., because otherwise I won't pay enough attention either. It's so worth it though. the narrator is soo good. 3d
Thewanderer92 @IvoryLunatic you‘re tempting me!! 3d
IvoryLunatic @Thewanderer92 Because I‘m so convinced that you‘ll enjoy it! 3d

Awww...how‘ve I‘ve missed the old gang. Rereading the HP series which is long overdue. Still in love with the books and the #audiobook narration by Jim Dale.

Macker11 I am about to read them ! 4d
RamsFan1963 I'm embarrassed to say I've never read the series. It's my hype aversion, the more people pushed the books at me, the more I didn't want to read them. Maybe one day.... 4d
lele1432 Those audiobooks are phenomenal! I'm due for a series reread myself...I miss that world lol 4d
See All 7 Comments
Chelleo @Macker11 Are you reading them for the first time? 4d
Chelleo @RamsFan1963 Nothing to be ashamed of. I know several people that haven‘t read them. Would be interested in hearing if you enjoy them if you ever decide to read them. 4d
Chelleo @lele1432 Exactly why I started. I‘ve rewatched the movies a dozen times easily. But this is only my 2nd (maybe 3rd?) reread of the book version. 4d
Macker11 @Chelleo as embarrassing as that sounds, yes! I am kind of excited though. In third grade I read till the third book, but I don‘t remember it. I‘m going to school to be an elementary teacher and I feel it‘s a good connection to students so I should know what they are talking about when they read the books! 3d

Rowling lived some years in Porto when she was working on the first volume of the Harry Potter series. Apparently she wrote a lot in the Majestic Café which should be wonderful but had a long line when we passed by.

So that‘s the last update from Porto. Now it‘s on the train and next up is Lisboa?

BarbaraBB Enjoy your trip! I‘ll follow you to Lisbon. Portugal is such a beautiful country! 5d

J.K. Rowling‘s MF book that started it all! The British Book Awards Book of the Year introduces Harry Potter, the boy who lived. Only a baby, he beat/survived the darkest wizard alive. Sadly, he lost his parents to the dark lord and has to live with his terrible aunt and uncle. Dreaming of a day to escape the Dursley house, he finally gets his wish when a big scruffy man in a motorbike tells him, “Yer a wizard Harry.”

Kcompton2912 This book would be great for PR! This link has a fantastic accompanying discussion guide to keep readers on track and engaged. http://hpread.scholastic.com/HP_Book1_Discussion_Guide.pdf The UDL principle 8.4, increase master oriented feedback, and the EL strategy 16, integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities, can both be met with this book in a PR setting. #UCFLAE3414SU19 1w

A friend of mine has inspired me to do a re-read of the Harry Potter Series. I first started reading the series when I was on maternity leave with my now 19 year old & after that I read them as they came out. We did a family listen of the first two in 2016, but other than that I haven‘t re-read the series. It‘s probably about time!

I can‘t explain why, but at the beginning of this year, I decided that in July I would do a Harry Potter reread, this time with the audiobooks. Here‘s the thing about Rowling. It doesn‘t matter how that button got clicked. What matters is the crappy response. Because somewhere, there‘s a kid, a teen, an adult, who feels the Potter universe in their bones, and who is now crushed under the weight that its creator might believe that they are somehow invalid. If you are that person, YOU MATTER. Trans women are real women. Trans men are real men. All genders are valid. Fuck Rowling.

tournevis I've been cursing that woman for quite a few years now. She'd reached the bottom of the barrel, but now she's just broken through and she's digging under. 3w
JacqMac Yes! I wished she‘d just stayed her castle, siting on her piles of money. We loved Harry Potter, in our house, and now it‘s hard for any of us to have anything to do with it anymore. 3w

Today‘s prompt is DNF (did not finish). Here are 4 books that have recently made it onto my “stalled” shelf on Goodreads. I think I‘ll probably get back to the bottom two at some point, but I‘m not planning to go back to the top two. •
