Zinnia and the Bees | Danielle Davis

Pickpick

Just finished this delightful middle-grade novel about a 7th grader who finds herself the hive to a colony of bees, which truthfully is the least of her problems. Getting in trouble on the final day of school + a newly missing older brother + a stand-offish mom + a quirky new neighbor + an aging rescue dog - her old BFFs = the beginning of a summer Zinnia might want to forget. Perfect for a quick read for any age!

I've resisted this series for a long, long time but gave in when I forgot to bring a book from the pile to read for our high stakes testing. I'm enjoying the reimagining of the fairy tales interspersed in a new setting.

I bought this on a whim and have found it to be utterly delightful. It's the first book where I've found myself wanting book darts to go back and note some lovely bits. The way Brown allows Roz to grow and progress seems as natural as the season, and the description of the animals is charming. It has made proctoring our high stakes tests tolerable as I'm reading it while we wait to be dismissed.

Starting this today with no real clue why other than it was on the Nook. Did I buy it? Did my daughter?

I gave up on this book ages ago for reasons unknown. Too busy? Something for work came along? Lost the book? No idea, but I'm enjoying it the second time around. Committed to reading more this year 😉
