I signed up for the #AllHallowsReadSwap and was ordering books today when I got a message at checkout saying orders couldn't be shipped to me due to a Canada Post strike (I wasn't aware that was even a possibility). I have a question about Amazon, do they use Canada Post, or other shipping services? I'm considering trying to put together a package on Amazon to ship directly to my partner, but I don't know anything about Amazon. Con't 👇

BookishMadHatter It's too expensive for Amazon to ship to me, which is the reason I'm clueless about their practices. So would it be practical for me to directly ship and order from Amazon to my swap partner? 3d

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I know the more rural you are/ further from distribution centre, then Amazon will use Canada Post. I also think most of NFLD will get Amazon via Canada Post. (Trying to remember from the strike last Xmas). You can have orders sent directly to your recipient though, might be the better option given the strike. 3d

TheBookHippie @BookishMadHatter I use it to ship to Canada from USA it works out to be not a ton of money. You can always add it to your cart and try. It will go slower depending where you‘re mailing to but it does get there. Try to ship from the Amazon your mailing to. For instance I use Amazon UK to ship to England. Good luck! 3d

TheKidUpstairs I used Amazon for swaps last year during the last Can Post strike, and it worked well delivering to NB and Calgary. Like @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego said, it might depend on where they are, so as much as the surprise can be fun it might be worth reaching out to your match to ask if Amazon delivers during strikes in their area. 3d

LeahBergen I know I have received (and sent) swaps from Amazon without any problems. That may be because I‘m in a city though and wasn‘t sending to anywhere rural? 2d

BookishMadHatter @LeahBergen no worries. For me, this news came out of nowhere. Being a librarian who does a lot of inter library loans through mail, the higher-ups usually give up heads up of this stuff, but I guess it caught everyone off guard. I'll be happy to get something whenever. It's a consequence of small town living, and none of us have control over the situation 2d

TheKidUpstairs @BookishMadHatter I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt this came out of nowhere! I thought I'd missed something, but we weren't prepared at our library, either. Our ILLOs are through Canada Post a well 2d

I know you are rural - but for the fall swap I did have the option on Amazon to ship directly to you - so I'd think you probably could do the same with your match - but I'm defintiely not an Amazon expert! LOL 1d
