I‘m using this as my #TBRTarot for February- A book with a yellow cover. I did actually read it back then and am only posting now. 😅

This is also LONG overdue for the #JaneandtheExcellentReadAlong ! 😳 I quite enjoyed it. Surely the obsequious Mr. Cooper is meant to have inspired Mr. Collins in P&P! 😆 Answers to prompts are in the comments.

CBee Awesome! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 1d
Ruthiella 1. Stand out moment- Cassandra braining some one with a chamber pot. 2. Fav character - I really liked the well dressed but sharp Sir James Villiers, the magistrate. 3. N/A 4. Sir Harold‘s feelings for Lady Harriot surprised and disconcerted me. 5. I learned about still rooms and their very existence! 6. If I 100% knew a tart with brains 🤢 would give me courage, I‘d eat it. 7. I‘d pick Mr. Cooper‘s off-key hymns over Mrs. Austen complaints. (edited) 1d
Ruthiella 8. I‘d prefer a picnic in the gardens of Chatsworth over a dinner in my honor. 1d

Everyone is right - these are definitely improving! The footnotes are still bothering more often than not but I did like how Barron wove in some of the places and details from Austen‘s work. Jane is also feeling more authentic and the mysteries are getting more interesting, as well.

1/2 catch-up books for the #janeandtheexcellentreadalong during #MarchMadness

TheBookHippie I so agree -they are improving at rapid rate. 1w
Ruthiella I think too, as the books progress, I can better separate this fictional character from the historical one. For me, that bizarrely makes the books more believable to me. 1w
janeycanuck @Ruthiella Oh, that‘s a good point. I had been feeling like Jane was feeling more authentic but maybe I‘m just settling into how she writes the character… 1w

Title of the Final Book has changed. I like it. It's fitting but it also makes me sad.
#JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong Counting Down to #JaneandtheFinalMystery.

Ruthiella Great! I‘m super behind now ( only just finished book five) but I might catch up! 🤞 Now that I‘m familiar with the setting and style, etc they read much faster! 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig They do get better the further alone they go. 2w

TheBookHippie @Ruthiella I agree the last two went much better … 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie @Ruthiella I'm guessing name change of the book happened fairly recently. I remember looking at 🐧 Random House site a few days ago and it still had Jane and the Winchester Schoolboy as the title. There's a release date as well now Oct 3rd. And it's in the Litsy Database. Litsy book description is lengther than publishers. Exciting to see things moving along. 1w
kspenmoll Each book gets better & better. 1w

"I CAME INTO MY KINGDOM TODAY AT HALF- PAST TWO— OR SO much of one as shall ever be granted me on this earth. Four square brick walls, half a dozen chimneys, a simple doorway fronting on the London to Gosport road, and a clutch of outbuildings behind: such is our cottage in Chawton."

We've finally made it to Chawton.
Discussion Post will be up on March 30th.

This series is definitely growing on me. I much preferred this to the first in the series and the author's interjections didn't bother me as much. I definitely was getting Wickham/Darcy vibes from two of the characters early on, which played out nicely over the course of the book.

Still playing catch-up for #janeandtheexcellentreadalong

Ruthiella I‘m playing catch-up too, but the books really do get better and better. 2w
kspenmoll They do get better! 2w
janeycanuck @Ruthiella @kspenmoll I just started the third one today and it‘s pretty good! 2w

#Pemberlittens Ch.7 - so Mary, now Mary Austen, is the worst! She‘s the relative everyone dreads seeing. And we now know she‘s the one who will be going through Eliza‘s papers and will be the main antagonist I think when it comes to Cassandra‘s mission. Also, bad news is coming about Tom I think-in the past. How will reliving it affect Cassandra in the present?

BarkingMadRead Ew, Mary is awful! What a horrible human being! 3w
IndoorDame So awful! I‘m feeling worried that Cassandra is such a terrible sneak. I don‘t think she‘ll be a match for Mary 😬 3w

peanutnine @IndoorDame she is the worst at being sneaky!! 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig Mary shows up in #JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong as well. She's gone down in history as a dreadful person. 3w
suvata There is one sentence that pretty much sums up the entire chapter. “Mary Austen had come with a long list of grievances and an ungovernable impulse to air them forthwith.” 3w
KristiAhlers I so feel that meme lol. Mary is just so ick! 3w
janeycanuck Agreed. Mary is awful. But I‘m dreading our next chapter, knowing what‘s coming next… 3w
julieclair @suvata 💯Perfect sentence to sum up the chapter. And about the next chapter, I fear that Cassandra will have a painful time as she relives her memories… (edited) 3w

1. Standout moments? Really?
Is there any other than Lord Harold? 😭

2. We know Jane's story, but what's
your Fantasy Ending for her and Lord Harold?

3. What's Jane and Lord Harold's Ship Name?
Jaarold? Or are Ship Names just a big NO for you?

4. Favourite character is obviously Lord Harold. 2nd Favorite?

5. Favorite quote?

6. Something you learned
about Jane or her time?

7. Random thoughts?

#JaneandtheExcellentReadalong

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1️⃣ I put off finishing because from #JaneandtheYear2020 knew Lord Harold, The Gentleman Rogue dies at the end. Even knowing it's coming still had me 😭

2️⃣ As a #Janeite I know Jane's life story. Had she married we would probably have never gotten her books. But still I want her and Lord Harold to have secretly wed, continuing to solve mysteries, and Jane still having time to writing books. One can dream.

4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 3️⃣ Jaarold doesn't seem to be grand enough. I

4️⃣ Really liked brother Frank in this one. He's again added another word to my vocabulary - havey- cavey.
4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 5️⃣So many good quotes! “You cry, dear? Waste. Should've married you years ago.” .......“Promise me . . . you will write. Heroine—” 4w

Crinoline_Laphroaig Pray do not stumble over your mother in the passage,” he added as I made for the door. “She has been listening at the keyhole this quarter- hour at least.”

"The moon is high; and when the lady in question is Miss Austen, it does not signify how long I wait.”

“Promise me . . . you will write. Heroine—”

6️⃣ Maria Fitzherbert. Plus I fell down a Google rabbit hole of the history of Itchen ferry.
4w
Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ Rather obsessed w/ Jane's gown and want to Cosplay it - 'the cunning design of opened lapels, split bodice buttoned down the centre, and delicate bows tied beneath the right breast. The high white ruff à la reine Elizabeth, with Vandyke pleating, Equestrian Hat, and dove- grey paisley shawl, figured in black and gold. '

*Glad doubled up #janeandtheprisonerofwoolhouse and Ghosts of Netley since both are set in Southampton and have Naval storylines. After this we are off to @janeaustenshouse in Chawton.

TheBookHippie First I want the dress. And yes had she ever married we wouldn‘t have the gift of her writing how sad is that?!?! 3w
TheBookHippie I suspect that too much breeding is at the heart of the trouble--but too much breeding is the lot of all women who marry young, particularly when they are so fortunate as to make a love-match. Elizabeth Bridges, third daughter of a baronet, was but eighteen when she wed, and only five-and-thirty when she passed from this life. With her strength of character, she ought to have lived to be eighty. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie such a great dress! 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheBookHippie I'll take my chances financially as a spinster writer rather than dying after giving birth to my 11th child like Jane's sister in law. 3w
TheBookHippie @Crinoline_Laphroaig right the more I read of that time the more I‘m convinced single was the way to go …however money 😵‍💫 3w
TheBookHippie @Crinoline_Laphroaig also reminded me of religious practices today of some who have to have children til they die or menopause 😵‍💫… 3w
TheBookHippie @Crinoline_Laphroaig I want to make all these dresses and have a proper tea party 🤣 3w

My reads for February 2023. The standout by far is Lessons in Chemistry. Just adored this book for a multitude of reasons. My book club discussion was lively! 8 of these books were buddy reads. #bookclub #janeandtheexcellentreadalong #goldenagecrimeclub #nunlit #pemberlittens #diversecozy #sundaybuddyread
The last 5 books were my choices. Killing of Innocents I have not finished so it is going into March.

I say this every time I join a readathon, but I could really use another readathon right now! My stacks runeth over with library holds & challenges. I need to focus my reading for the month so my goals will be:
