Read with #Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Overall, I enjoyed this modern Emma retelling. I went from the audiobook to print & then back-&-forth between the two. I wasn‘t a big fan of the female narrator‘s voice but it was easier to listen to it most days. I liked both Emma & Knightly‘s characters & that they each grew throughout the story. I‘m not sure the (quite) spicy scenes were needed ⬇️

DebinHawaii …at the end as they seemed a little out of place in this otherwise sweet romance, but maybe that‘s just me?! I look forward to the next in this “For the Love of Austen” series coming out in August. Thanks to for her usual great hosting! 💕 7h

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent #retelling I really enjoyed this Emma retelling. Emma was flawed but really likeable and I commiserated with her more often than not. The writing was very well done and I really fell for the romance between Knightley and Emma. It was believable and sweet. I will definitely pick up Darcy‘s book when it comes out.

Librarybelle Thanks for leading us through this! 20h
mcctrish I did like this a lot, I thought it was a well done modernized Emma. I thought the love parts could have been more original and less formulaic ( and I know this is more a me thing than everybody) 20h

LiseWorks Yes I'm curious about Darcy too, 20h
willaful @mcctrish An us thing. 😁

I do think the modernization was well done. Present day Mr. Wodehouse was very believable. 😂

mcctrish @willaful Mr Wodehouse was great! 19h
rubyslippersreads I really liked this, and agree with @willaful and #mcctrish that Mr. Wodehouse was great. I‘m looking forward to finding out what happens to William Darcy. 17h
julieclair I thoroughly enjoyed this read and our discussion. Thanks for doing such a great job as our leader! 16h
CatLass007 @Librarybelle @mcctrish @LiseWorks @willaful @rubyslippersreads @julieclair For those of you who have expressed interest in William Darcy‘s story, Elizabeth of East Hampton is scheduled for release on August 6th of this year. The description sounds very funny. (edited) 15h

Overall, I enjoyed this retelling of Emma. The ending to me seemed to be a very different tone from the rest of the book, which disappointed me a bit, but this is still a pick. I loved seeing Emma‘s passion for art shine throughout the novel and her convictions to stand on her own in certain situations - lots of growth. It was cute and light…great choice for #PemberLittens ! #JaneAdjacent

StayCurious Thank you so much for reading along! 1d

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Ch. 34-35: yay Emma! You finally stood up to Margo and gently told her to butt out. Good for you! And I‘m so glad that the “strings” conversation was had with Knightley. Finally, progress. Happy vibes ❤️💜

CatLass007 Very happy vibes! 2d
mcctrish I got the feeling Daddy knew all along and was happy Emma finally figured it out 2d

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent 32-33: hmmm keeping secrets is never a good thing. Why is Emma so nervous about everyone knowing? Oh I‘m so glad things got cleared up with Nadine! That was a frustrating scene haha! Things are looking up. But wait…there‘s still the matter of them actually TalkIng and defining their relationship. And telling their family…this Sunday dinner is gonna be one for the books.

CatLass007 I didn‘t expect this book to be quite so spicy. But it‘s good. 3d
mcctrish @CatLass007 me either ( truthfully I found it fun and refreshing and then it feels like it goes formulaic romance for the last couple of chapters ) 3d

CatLass007 @mcctrish I liked the final chapters because of the way Emma grows and becomes stronger. 3d
julieclair I agree that keeping secrets is never a good idea. And I don‘t understand why Emma insists on doing so. 2d
willaful @mcctrish I felt the same. I skipped through most of the spice because it felt so old hat. 2d
mcctrish @willaful it could have been been done better for sure 2d

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent 30-31: Well, even though I‘m sure a complicated conversation needs to be had, I‘m glad they finally admitted that they want each other. There were no declarations of love - yet. I‘m sure those are forthcoming. Things are going to change now no matter what.

CatLass007 I love your use of animals (and everything else) in your posts.🐶😹 4d

I intended to get caught up on a few chapters for the #PemberLittens on today's solo cafe date, but I got so sucked in that I finished the book completely. This has to be one of my favorite Austen adaptations. I love that this Emma fights back when Knightley lectures, and I love the career trajectory the authors set her on. The epilogue sets up the sequel (or companion?) novel really nicely, too, so I'm definitely going to have to check that out.

rubyslippersreads I‘m late in joining the #PemberLittens but I‘m loving this so far. There a P&P sequel coming out later this year: 4d
Andrea313 @rubyslippersreads Yes, I'm looking forward to reading it! We get a tiny bit of a setup at the end of this one (no spoilers!) that I think is pretty clever. 4d

#Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent Ch. 28-29:
Knightley is finally done running away (although I feel bad for his new secretary-is she out of a job?) and Emma is full of self discovery. Mainly: she loves Knightley. He‘s her person - the one in her life who truly knows her. Now what to do about that discovery? I think it‘s great she turned down the offered internship. Her path lies elsewhere where she can stand on her own.

LiseWorks I agree, and I think she is alrei9with her decision to not take the job 4d
julieclair I was really surprised she didn‘t take the internship. But I‘m proud of her. She made the right decision. 4d
maich @julieclair I agree with you. It was right decision and she'll find something better for her. And finally he's coming back and I hope they'll talk to each other now. 4d
rubyslippersreads I think the “art matchmaking” would be right up Emma‘s alley. 18h
