Hello #Pemberlittens friends! I‘ve made the difficult decision to end our #JaneAdjacent buddy reads starting in May. Or at least to end my role in hosting them. I‘ve found recently that I‘ve overcommitted myself on Litsy and in real life and I need to step back. I‘ve so enjoyed our discussions and the books we‘ve chosen that have brought us back into Jane‘s world. If anyone is interested in taking up the mantle, you have my blessing!

mcctrish It‘s so easy to do. I‘m so sad but I‘m so happy I got to hang out with you for a brief while 2d

BarkingMadRead Awwwww that‘s a bummer, but I totally get it! If I wasn‘t already hosting a couple others I would take it over! 2d
Sace While I was not part of the reading I totally understand the Litsy overwhelm! There are so many fabulous activities here and it‘s hard not to overdo. 2d
Librarybelle Thank you for hosting this! I completely understand - I can barely keep up with all of the activities I‘m hosting and participating in. It‘s been a lot of fun. ❤️ 2d
Bookwormjillk Thanks for hosting! 2d
peanutnine Totally understand! Thanks for hosting for so long, we read some great books as a group ☺️💕 2d
Gissy So sad but understandable. I‘m always behind in my readings so I will spend these months to read all your recommendations😃Enjoy your reading time and enjoy🤗Thank you so much for hosting all these buddy reads 🥰♥️♥️♥️ 1d
willaful It's been really fun! I hope you can find more balance in your life; it's so easy to take on too much here! 1d
CatLass007 You do you. You have done an awesome job hosting this and so many other buddy reads. ❤️ 1d
IndoorDame Thanks for taking this on for so long. You‘re awesome! I‘m glad you‘re looking out for yourself ❤️ 1d

rubyslippersreads I‘m sad it‘s ending, but happy that I‘ve learned of so many wonderful #janeadjacent books. Thanks for being such a great host. ❤️ 1d
julieclair This has been a wonderful ride and I will miss it. But I totally get the overwhelm. I, too, suffer from what my husband calls “overcommitment syndrome “. 🙃 Thank you for the time, effort and heart you have put into hosting us. 😍🥰 (edited) 1d
CrowCAH Thanks you so much for heading up the buddy reads! 😘 Totally understandable about commitment; lots of book clubs! Take it easy! 1d
quietjenn Thanks for all you've done! Take care of yourself. 1d
daena Thank you so much for all you‘ve done! 1d

TheAromaofBooks I definitely get it!! Thank you for all the work you've put in on this little group - we've had some great reads together!! 1d
CatLass007 @BarkingMadRead Did you change your handle while I was on hiatus from Littens? Did you used to be @BarkingMadRuns? 24h
BarkingMadRead @CatLass007 I used to be BarkingMadRun but I can‘t run anymore so i changed it 23h
CatLass007 I get that. If running is something you enjoyed, then I‘m sorry you can‘t run anymore. But you must be pretty memorable since I was off Litsy for about three years. 23h
Larkken Thank you for hosting as long as you did! I found some really fun books through this group - even if I also often overcommit to joining groups.🥰 I hope you find some breathing room! 20h
Crinoline_Laphroaig @StayCurious After I finished hosting last's years #JaneAndTheExcellentReadAlong both here and on Instagram, I hadn't planned on continuing. But my Instagram friend Claire asked me to host another. I didn't post about #12MonthsOfJane here because you were already hosting Jane Adjacent and that's what we are reading. But if you're good with it, I'll use the #JaneAdjacent tag and start sharing for any #PemberLittens who are interested. 19h
StayCurious @Crinoline_Laphroaig absolutely! That‘s totally fine with me 💜 13h

Pickpick

2nd book picked by librarian (book bundle). I had no idea there was a series starting in 1996 with Jane Austen as a detective (before I read any Austen). Written close to Austen‘s style, this 1st story involves Jane trying to prove her friend is innocent of murder after her husband dies while Jane is staying there. There‘s complications, interesting characters,& overall, a good mystery. 8 books in series. @StayCurious -you may be interested

TheBookHippie I read them all with the #Janeandtheexcellentreadalong with @Crinoline_Laphroaig last year into this year. It was amazing and so fun. (edited) 2mo
Ruthiella I also read about half of the series as part of #janeandtheexcellentreadalong and recommend the rest of them. Each subsequent book improves upon the previous one. 2mo
Scochrane26 @TheBookHippie @Ruthiella Thanks for the info. I was on the fence about continuing the series, but I think they‘d be good whenever I need a mystery. 2mo
TheBookHippie @Scochrane26 they definitely get better as you go along. 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig And you can check out the #JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong posts as you read series. 2mo

And that‘s a wrap on this series. Overall I enjoyed this series. I felt Barron did a great job in staying true to Austen‘s image and the other known persons in her life. I am grateful for the way she finished the last book not taking us all the way to the bitter end.

Thank you to @Crinoline_Laphroaig for the encouragement to read this series. #JaneAustenExcellentReadalong

#Pemberlittens this has always been read at your own pace. Feel free to pop back anytime and comment. There will be a discussion of the whole series posted November. #JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1️⃣ Reveal of the by-blow. (What a great dated word.) I literally had to stop, talk to myself out loud, and mentally process the family dynamics.

2️⃣ Always dear Jane. But also Edward in this one. As a proud Auntie, loved their relationship.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 3️⃣ "Good lord, I thought suddenly. Had I accepted him, should I have had ten children? —And shuddered at the thought."

"How many heroines had I thrown in the way of such men—the Willoughbys, the Wickhams, the William Elliots?"

"Who knows, after all, what the future may hold?"

Crinoline_Laphroaig 4️⃣ I hate cold water. We had a swimming pool for years and I never got into it until as my husband said 'tempature was tepid bath water.' Mostly I like to look at water. I'll ride the current.

5️⃣ It never fails, whenever you're not looking you best, that's when you run into someone you haven't seen in years. I'm going to preserve the mystery, keep him guessing and stay above stairs. However, I will contrive a way to spy on him.

Crinoline_Laphroaig 6️⃣ "The Morning Gazette publishes an intriguing article on Sir Joseph Banks‘s eucalypt, a plant of which one has never heard; the following week one‘s niece announces she intends to plant a eucalypt at her father‘s Kentish estate, if only he may obtain a specimen from the Botanic Gardens at Kew."

Crinoline_Laphroaig 7️⃣ I really liked that it circled back to where we started with Jane And The Unpleasantness At Scargrave Manor. Also I'm glad the Final Mystery didn't include Jane's final moments.

#Pemberlittens loved how it circled back to beginning with Harris Bigg-Wither.
"Good lord, I thought suddenly. Had I accepted him, should I have had ten children? - And shuddered at the thought." Wonderful conclusion. Even though it had me ?.

Stephanie Barron did Jane proud.

Pop over to Instagram to see a reel I made for Austenprose Book Tour.

#Pemberlittens I've been rereading Jane Austen as part of #JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong. Emma being published is part of the story from Jane and the Waterloo Map forward.

A few years ago I read this article https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/20/opinion/jane-austens-guide-to-alzheimers.html... it really changed my perspective of Emma as just a spoiled rich girl. She's parenting a parent. Which I've done and it never easy.

Barron is just sucking me right in with these mysteries now! I loved spending time with Eliza & Henry again and I‘m hoping Chizzlewit shows up in future books. The mystery in this one was quite good, I think it‘s one of the better constructed stories.

Slowing catching up on #Janeandtheexcellentreadalong
