Last Respects | Catherine Aird

Pickpick

One thing I like about the Sloan and Crosby series is how Aird gently educates the reader on a different topic in each book. This one incorporates the waters near and of the sea, the people who live on them, and the constabulary‘s place there.

A body found floating on the sea near the mouth of the river was not as simple a case as originally thought - as Dr. Dabbe‘s post-mortem (and entertaining insights) discover.

julieclair Ooohhh... I've never heard of this series. But the cover alone makes me want to read this book! Added to stack. 👍📚 4w
mabell @julieclair I really enjoy this series! Classic British cozies, with a unique writing style. The first was written in 1966, and the most recent in 2019 - the author is in her 90s! 4w

julieclair Oh wow... 1966 to 2019! That's amazing. So glad you posted about this book, and introduced me to this series! 4w
mabell @julieclair Yay! I hope you like it! 3w
TheAromaofBooks I'm with @julieclair - I've never heard of this series and it sounds so fun!! 3w
Librarybelle I didn‘t realize the series spanned so many years! 3w
mabell @TheAromaofBooks I really enjoy it! But also British cozies are my jam 🤣 3w
mabell @Librarybelle I know! It will be interesting to see how it evolves with time. I‘m just up to 1982, so only 15ish years from the beginning and this one didn‘t feel any more “modern.” (Which is a good thing!) 3w

I really enjoyed this historical fiction novel about an old steamboat captain that finds himself travelling down the Mississippi with a group of vampires. Abner Marsh is a terrific character and I enjoyed all the historical details.

So for the #19822022 challenge I decided to finally read the A is for Alibi series! I am absolutely loving them! I love Kinsey‘s attitude and the cases she solves. It‘s a great series so far and I‘m so glad I‘ve started finally. My library does a tailored titles every weekand when I put this series on there, they suggested One for the Money, which I‘ve loved for years, so this series is a perfect fit! #1982 #1985 #1986 #1987

Librarybelle Hooray! I enjoyed A is for Alibi and need to get back to the series! 10mo

kspenmoll @Librarybelle I read it so long ago I remember nothing! I‘ve bern wanting to reread the series!! 13mo
kspenmoll @Crazeedi Sunflower Sisters is a pre-quel to Lilac Girls & Lost Roses. I heard the author speak at our library a few years ago- her writing journey was quite a story. I read Lilac Girls- just fantastic, meticulous research, interviews etc. 13mo
kspenmoll @AmyG You make me feel so relieved to have a “partner in crime”! I had fun stacking… 13mo

After taking a month off, I am jumping right back in to my chronological Stephen King reread! This is one of the few books I have never read from King. I am so excited for Shawshank and The Body!! #epicstephenkingreread #book15 #1982

TheNextBook I hadn't read this either till a few months ago! It was good. 5y
kristinshafel Yes! I loved this collection. Apt Pupil and The Breathing Method too. Sooo good! 5y
Josie @TheNextBook @kristinshafel I've heard such great things about each novella!! I was so eager to get to this one, I think that's why I had to bail on Danse Macabre! 5y

ReadingsByTheC I'm so excited for you! This is one of my favorite Stephen King books. I just did a re-read last month! 5y
Josie @ReadingsByTheC YAY!!! Growing up, I was not a huge fan of novellas. So I never read any of King's collections. I LOVE novellas now, though! It's so fun to be reading some of his work for the first time. 5y
LauraBeth So glad to see you back! 5y
