Resuming Tortilla Flats 1,700 miles to the SW from where I started it. Boy, Steinbeck sure likes to pepper his novels with knuckleheads!
The reading and listening of It really slowed me down. I'm not including the Steinbeck shorts because I'm waiting to finish The Pearl (I have an all in one edition.) I'm hoping I can finish a manga and The Pearl tonight so I'll have 2 more for August.
Now, that's what I call one well-read book! I hope everyone enjoyed our #SteinbeckShortsReadAlong. I sure did! Thanks to everyone who participated. It was fun reading all the thoughtful comments about these timeless novels.
What a hellacious week. I only get three planning periods a week and I lost one of them this week. Of course it was on the day we had back to school night. I'm not leaving the house this weekend. I'm just going to spend quality time with the #littens and these guys.
I joined this group a bit late, but I finished my first story this week. Please feel free to jump in with any of the stories that interest you. I'll try to loop back and catch the two I missed earlier this month. Thanks for organizing this @suvata
My book finally came in from the library, so hopefully I'll be able to join in later this week as I finish up some other reads and jump in on book 2!
Some of these I read in high school, some I've never read, so it should be interesting!
"Her mother, that ancient, dried, toothless one, relict of a past generation, was nearly fifty."
"ancient" and "nearly fifty" in the same sentence ????
Being a Virgo I am a perfectionist and, okay, maybe a little OCD. I'm wondering if Penguin ? does this on purpose just to tick people like me off? If so, "Well done, Penguin."
Hint: Compare the book order - cover vs. pages

I think this read along is a perfect bit of kismet. East of Eden was not working for me right now, but I think these short novels will ease me into the longer work. I might do The Grapes of Wrath after this. That way I'm reading him more or less chronologically.
