Even after finishing this I can‘t find it in myself to be upset by this trailer. First, how could Wuthering Heights be anything but a love story? Yes, there are other prominent themes but Heathcliff‘s entire existence and every choice he makes is this relationship. Was he troubled and cruel? Yes. But please remember to question the reliability of the narrator who has clear and biased options on everyone since they were children, this does change

As someone who greatly respects Robbie, including her role in the recent adaptation of Emma, & who loved Elordi as the creature in Del Toro's Frankenstein, my two word response to the Wuthering Heights trailer?: No, thanks. Ew. (Okay, that was 3, but this is my favorite Bronte book & as many others have pointed out, it is not a love story)

nanuska_153 I read an interview with the director and she was so dismissive about the critics for not being faithful to the book, she made a comment like: "wait until they see the moors don't even feature in the movie". Honestly, it's a pass for me, films are adaptations and not always faithful, but I won't give my time to someone that doesn't have respect for the book 2mo

I found every character to be utterly unlikable. The narrative failed to engage me for the majority of its duration. Furthermore, I felt completely detached from what I interpreted as mere gossip.

bumpinthenight I could understand this, but you have to take into consideration that you‘re getting the story second hand from someone so how they describe what happened and the characters is going to be biased and you‘re supposed to ask yourself how reliable the narrator is given the tone they are set from the beginning. 1d

When I was reading Wuthering Heights, I felt a sense of a dark, 🌩🌌stormy night, gloomy candlelight🕯, and vivid illustrations that made it all play out like a movie in my mind.Heathcliff‘s this deep, messed-up guy you just can‘t forget, and Catherine‘s torn between what she feels and what the world expects. Their love is wild, complicated, and kinda haunting.

So, one of the categories for the #ReadICT (City of Wichita KS) Reading Challenge is a book that scares me.

I have been fearful of this book. For. Ever? A long time?! I was dismissive of the “girl authors” when I was a snotty snob in HS decades ago and NOW, honestly, them Bronte sisters scare me! 😳 I listened to Jane Eyre (Thandie Newton 🌟) and ❤️‘d it. Will WH give me the same reaction?

LoverOfLearning Hmmm. These books are a bit different. Jane Eyre feels much slower and more character based, whereas WH is a bit more Gothic, quicker paced and more focused on the theme/plot itself not just the characters. Hope this helps. Give it a shot. The audiobook was pretty good. But there many different audios so find one where you like the narrarators voice best. 9mo

Ruthiella Agreed with @LoverOfLearning Emily Brontë‘s style is very different from Charlotte‘s. I‘d also try the audio, not only because there is at least one character who speaks entirely in Yorkshire dialect. ? 9mo

I just didn't appreciate them the first time. Too immature, I guess. I was in high school. I tried again when I was a young mother. Still, no. It was in my mid 40s when I finally understood the appeal.

My first time reading this, I was under the impression this was a romance 💀 , I was really surprised how much I disliked everyone, I really hated Heathcliff, he was so UNRELENTING. Great ending, great gothic tale of revenge. I‘m happy about Cathy and Hareton. I want to watch an adaptation now but there are so many, what‘s the best adaptation? Grateful for any suggestions!🖤

Balibee146 I haven't read this book in probably 30 years...Long overdue for a re read. I tend to like TV adaptations as th longer format gives the story room to play out. There's one from 2009 with Tom Hardy which I'm sure I enjoyed ta the time. 13mo

ChaoticMissAdventures I like Jacob Elordi but I do think they missed the mark here. Heathcliff is supposed to be Romani right? Darker, and a victim of racism. 1y

Bookwomble Robbie is a great actor, but I don't see her as Cathy, however she *is* a great actor, so...? I've never heard of Elordi, but my first reaction to your pic was, "Well, he isn't mixed race, so they've whitewashed that rule yet again". It's so disappointing at this point in our cultural history. 1y

ChaoticMissAdventures @Bookwomble yeah, the director (Emerald Fennel) has worked with Elordi a couple of times he seems to be growing into her go to main guy. I think he is great just not for this. It isn't hard to find a not white actor for the role, I am disappointed too. And they are both Australian?? I need tortured Yorkshire actors please! 1y
