Namesake: A Novel | Adrienne Young
Filled with action, emotion, and lyrical writing, New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with Namesake, the final book in the captivating Fable duology. Trader. Fighter. Survivor. With the Marigold ship free of her father, Fable and its crew were set to start over. That freedom is short-lived when she becomes a pawn in a notorious thugs scheme. In order to get to her intended destination she must help him to secure a partnership with Holland, a powerful gem trader who is more than she seems. As Fable descends deeper into a world of betrayal and deception, she learns that the secrets her mother took to her grave are now putting the people Fable cares about in danger. If Fable is going to save them then she must risk everything, including the boy she loves and the home she has finally found.

The book is well written. I just don't care for it. I'm not very enthusiastic about this author. But, I see the good points to the story, I just didn't see much point to it. It's like nothing really happens except one or two major things, so it seems boring.

The story continues! In this second book, we learn more about Fable‘s mother‘s past. I liked the way the story and characters developed. I could never survive living on a ship, but it‘s fun to read about!

My only wish is that we had a little more at the end. Just a tad bit more of the ever after. A dash more detail. A smidgen more story.

I‘m sad to leave this world! This was just as good as Fable, if not better. Someone else mentioned a prequel, and it‘s coming out in November! Saint and Isolde‘s story 😊

NinaRossi I bought this, but haven‘t read it yet. It makes me happy to hear that it‘s one of those worlds you don‘t want to leave, and there‘s more than one so you can stay in it longer. ❤️📚 2y
CBee @NinaRossi have you read Fable, the first book? And yes, definitely a world I didn‘t want to leave. I‘m so happy that she is continuing the story! 😊😊 2y

Not sure why I‘m just now getting to this (well, #doublebookspin 😂), but its predecessor (from 2020) was a 5⭐️ for me…I. Loved. It. And this was a wonderfully fitting end for Fable‘s story. At the conclusion of the first book, Fable, a young gem mage, is kidnapped from her love, West and her home on the Marigold by the evil helmsman trader Zola for his own selfish reasons and is forced to dive for treasure. She is then thrown into the 🔻

robinb opulent world of a relative she knew nothing about who is also out for their own greedy interests. What follows are exciting adventures, cunning double-crosses, and eye-opening revelations. This is a story about love and family, both the one you‘re born into and the one you make. It‘s about courage and strength and tenacity, even in the face of extreme odds. 🔻 2y
robinb Fable is such a fierce and beautiful character and the story is written so well that the pages just flew by, leaving me a bit sad to see it end (but happy for Fable and her resolutions). I think I may lean a little more toward the first book (because, hey, it‘s Fable‘s introduction), but this one left a warmly satisfying feeling behind…and that‘s what a reader craves. 🔻 2y
robinb Highly recommended. 5/5⭐️ And those covers…so stunningly gorgeous! #coverlove #doublebookspin @TheAromaofBooks 2y

I liked the first book (Fable), but this one was better I think. At least it‘s a fitting end to the story…. Fable grows into herself here, and is challenged in different ways.. trying to balance her now with her past, the secrets she‘s learning about her mother and the reality of her father. And I found out a prequel - Saint & Isolde‘s story is hue this fall! #bookspinbingo #bingo #secondbingo #readmyowndamnbooks

This is the second book, Book 1 is Fable. I adore this story & these characters & Namesake was even better than Fable. Same fantasy land rich with trading guilds, gemstones, adventure, but with new unsavory, albeit rich & glamourous characters. More of Fable's life story is revealed & her relationships deepen as she learns more of who she is & what she is made of.

I liked this book more than I did the first one in the series and I loved the adventure and air of mystery surrounding the story. The characters were amazing and I loved reading how they developed throughout the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about pirates, adventures and amazing love stories!

I adore book that pull you down the rabbit hole and this one did not disappoint. Fable has grown so much in many ways but is still clinging to some “not so good“ habits. She has found her people and from them she grows stronger and more confident with them standing behind her.

I‘ve been trying to finish this one for months, but other books and real life got in the way. Namesake is a satisfying conclusion to the duology that answered many of the lingering questions I had at the end of Fable. The final resolution was a little too “easy” after all of the twists that preceded it, but it was still enjoyable. Great escapist pirate adventure for the summer!

Treasure Island meets Pirates of the Caribbean with teenagers/young adults who are just as cut throat as the adults. It is a great coming of age story Young doesn't spend time filling the pages with adults telling teenagers they should do this or not that, she gets on with the story. New & old characters clash in this story with twists and back stabbing plots as the ghosts from the past haunt their every move

JaneyWaneyB @AkashaVampie the covers grabbed me too 🤩 The story is about a girl left to fend for herself on an island by her father after her mother dies in a ship wreck. Fable is a dredger who finds gems in the reefs & sells them to pay for passage off the island. Fable's thrown into a world of traders, sailors & ruffians whilst finding out who she truly is & what she's capable of. Really enjoyed these books and recommend 🤓😍🤩 3y

A good followup/wrapup to the Fable duology. Great writing & a fun, dark, conniving atmosphere. Fantastically strong female protagonist in Fable with supporting characters that I NEED more from. Super bad guy, great conflict with greed & cutthroat plotting & scheming. More political intrigue than seafaring in this one, but still fun. A good ending in terms of wrapping things up, but could have been a bit harder-hitting. I want more of this world.

I loved this second book to the Fable duology. I think I liked this one more than the first, the plot continues straight from the ending of Fable, which I really liked. This book was full of love, not just romance but the love between family and friendships. I liked the plot twists and the world building, the descriptions of the dives were so vivid which I loved. I also found that the ending had the perfect closure for fans of the series❤

Oh my gossshhhh this book was so beautiful! It was hard to get into on the first half of the book. But I enjoy the parts of her in the water. The way she explains the way the character feels on the water, it's like the water is a character itself. This book is absently stunningly written. I could have read this book all day long. I don't think there is going to be another one, but I would LOVE it if there was 🥰

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I find that most sequels tend to disappoint compared to the previous book, but “Namesake” was a solid and entertaining end to this duology. However, one of my main critiques of this book was that I wasn‘t a fan of how West and Fable‘s relationship was written and it felt forced at times. In addition, I wish there had been a book map since the first book had one and the book references multiple different ports and landmarks.

Duology Rating 4½⭐
Swashbuckling, free-diving for gems, family secrets, and back-stabbing are just a few of the elements you will find in this book. You‘ll also find endearing friendships that have a familial feel to them and even a little bit of a sweet romance. All of which make this a truly fun and heartfelt story.

There were so many plots twists and some were surprising. You learn so much more about Fable's background and her family in this sequel. Fable has so many decisions to make and has to be quick on her feet to save the people and things she loves the most.
