Admittedly I watched the movie before reading the book, so I should have expected the differences. I adored this fantastical world full of adventure and a bundle of different unique characters. I loved how the story sort of switches POV in the first half, it makes it feel even more magical and creates such a fun way of telling the story. The book has so much more than the movie so I did get a little confused and overwhelmed at times. Overall great

This book was dark and full of fantastical elements, but it did fall a little flat for me. From page 1 it delves into the story and action, without explanation throughout the story which kind of irked me. The MC Estelle is brave and feisty, but her decisions were questionable. The story is fairly repetitive at beginning and the end, but the middle was great. Pacing felt a little off but overall the book was good.

I don't know how I feel about this book. The world building was absolutely massive and the unique plot was so intriguing and had such a great potential. But it was also so confusing. There was so many terms and different words for different things. Though there's a glossary, it's 4 pages long. I didn't like the MC too much, she's supposed to be an adult but she doesn't act or think like one. I did like the story and tiny hint at romance.

📖War Of Shadows by Emma V.R. Noyes
This third instalment to the Sunken City series was a great conclusion. It wrapped up the questions and cliffhanger from book two and as usual the world building was so well written. The plot did feel a little rushed as lots of things happened in a short time. The romance was great and I loved the direction it went. The twists were great and overall the ending was equally as good. It leaves a little open.

I'm not usually a fan of time travel romance, but this book was an exception. The setting of 1920s London was so well developed and the author must've done a lot of research for it to be so rich. The plot was very Peaky Blinders like, I enjoyed the gangster similarities. The romance was also well written, the enemies to lovers and forced proximity was well used. The family dynamics were great. The ending leaves on a cliffhanger...

Whilst I found this finale to be a good conclusion to the trilogy, it didn't have the same feel as the previous two books. The plot seemed jumbled and it felt like so many things were happening for one book. The pacing was a little slow to begin with and it wasn't as dark or gothic as it could have been. I liked the way things ended and the final fight at Coldthistle. The epilogue hints at another book, but as far as I'm aware there isn't one.

This sequel was just as fast paced as the first book. Though the spooky factor isn't as high, it still has the dark and gothic setting of Coldthistle House. I loved the more in depth exploration of different paranormal creatures and learning more about the MC Louisa. Mr Morningside is still my favourite character. The ending kind of wraps up well but there are still questions/a sense of something big happening, so I'm excited to read the finale.

This was a surprisingly dark and gothic read that's fast paced and full of eerie going ons. Whilst I originally thought this was a ghost story, I was happily surprised when I found out it was more about supernatural creatures. It had a great mystery and I didn't expect the plot twists. The MC Louisa was likeable and I loved the master Mr Morningside. Overall a great start to a spooky trilogy thst I've been hyped to read.

After seeing the movie so many times, I thought its finally time to read the graphic novel. I absolutely adored the whole thing. The poetic yet dark writing. The gory and graphic artwork. I loved seeing the amount of love Eric and Shelly had for each other. It was fantastic and I would definitely reccomend this for fans of the movie or for anyone searching for a new graphic novel to read.

I read volumes 1-6 in a matter of a couple of hours. I loved the story and artwork. Raven has her usual sarcastic/gothic personality which I loved, and I liked her journey of fighting the evils around her. It was dark at times and I liked a lot of specific parts. Definitely a great small, short series to read for any fans of Raven or Teen Titans.

I'm so sad the series is over, but this epic conclusion to the trilogy was phenomenal! I can't get over how every book in the series was fantastic, and this one was such a kick ass ending. It continued right after book 2 and had so much action. I loved the character relationships. The romance. The plot twists. The fast pace. The answers to my questions. The sad parts. The parts where I cheered Harley on. The ending!

Excuse me Molly E. Lee, but how dare you write such an awesome sequel that I now have to obsess over! Jokes aside this second book was phenomenal, I adored the first and was worried for this one. It was full of action/badass fight scenes, with a fun little trip through Hell. The plot twists were so good and the romance was fire! I loved the character development with the MC Harley and her usual snark and geekiness and that ending, how dare you😱🤣

I hardly ever say this about a book series; but this sequel was so much better than the first book! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved The Sunken City, but this book was filled to the rim of all my favourite tropes. Enemies to lovers, one bed, fake marriage and so many more. It was so action packed and I loved seeing Amare fight more and learn her magic. The world building was phenomenal, I love this world of underwater kingdoms and pirates...

abookdragonsretreat ...as well as all the magic. The romance was perfect and I'm happy with Amare's choice, I just hope nothing ruins it in the next book. I can't believe the cliffhanger at the end, though I kind of predicted it, my jaw was still hanging open! I can't wait to get my hands on the final book in December, because this series has been amazing so far! 2mo

What a wonderful conclusion to such a dark and wicked series! I loved the continuation from book two, the plot is completely unpredictable and the twists had me opening and closing my mouth, I was happy shocked. The steam was hot, the slow burn finally became an inferno and I loved it. Without spoilers I loved the relationships between the different characters and I also adored the ending. This series is gothic, witchy and has a sinful romance!

This book did have a lot of issues; the pacing was way to fast and the story felt more like it was telling the reader what happened rather than showing us. Also the romance was very insta-love to an odd extent. Some of the plot felt just thrown in and very jumbled.
However, I did enjoy the concept and writing, it was descriptive and dark, with a gothic atmosphere and a lot of traditional Witchcraft. It's a good book but don't expect too much.

This was an absolutely extraordinary spooky book that I enjoyed so much. It had the perfect balance of 1918 historical accuracy mixed in with an eerie atmosphere with the war and the flu. I loved the storyline and the mystery of Mary Shelly trying to find out how her true love died whilst seeing his ghost. The pace was fast and the plot twists were so unexpected! The ending was perfect and bittersweet. Another great Cat Winters novel!

Cute and fluffy, but also a bit spicy towards the end, this was another great book from Ali Hazelwood. I preferred this one over The Love Hypothesis only because the MC Bee specialised in neuroscience, which is more similar to what I study (psychology). I loved the enemies to lovers vibe, but it was short lived as Levi made things clear early on in the book. I loved the science and even learnt a few things, I loved the quirkiness and happy ending!

I found this book to be similar to the much loved Stranger Things and Coraline, with the unique Sci-Fi atmosphere in a modern day urban setting, with rich world building and a well constructed plot. I enjoyed the idea of various other versions of the world (hence why I thought of Coraline) and I enjoyed the characters. The pacing was fairly fast, however the ending let me down a bit as it seemed like the whole book contradicted itself.

This was such a unique and enjoyable twist on pirates! I loved the storyline and the mystery to what is going on and how to break the infamous curse. I adored the romance, but do wish there was more sprinkled in during the middle part of the book. At first the pacing was a little slow, but it soon sped up a quarter way through. I would have also liked more action and fighting, but that's just personal preference. It has a great ending too!

This was such a heartfelt story full of emotions, both good and bad. The main character Tate was so relatable yet some of her decisions were questionable yet they made her human. The love interest Miles was hard to like, but the POVs of his past redeemed him and were so sad. Its a good mix of angst and spicy, and the pacing was quite fast. I did feel like the end resolution was little rushed, but I wasn't overly bothered. Another great CoHo book.

This was one of the most depressing yet inspiring books I've ever read. The story was unique and I loved the overall concept. I'm usually not a fan of dual POV, but it worked SO WELL for this book, watching how Mateo and Rufus developed and grew on each other, their romance and friendship was so raw. I loved how every part of this book has an impact on the story and the reader, it makes you question life and I absolutely loved it!

Though it had a slow beginning, I really enjoyed this story of Persephone and Hades. It was spicy and well written, though some parts could have been more meaningful rather than adding a sexy scene. I'm conflicted on how I feel about Persephone, I liked that she's growing into herself more, but she's also a little oblivious. The second half was great and I loved the ending, I definitely want to read the rest when I get around to them!

This was an enjoyable Fae book, it had lots of mystery and magic, though at times I was a little confused with the plot as I felt like it was a little scattered. I liked the story however I did find it predictable and I guessed who was behind it all. There was only a small amount of romance, which personally I would have liked more of. The ending leaves on a cliffhanger so I'm intrigued but am still questioning whether to continue of not.

This was such a good sequel to 'Teen Killers Club'! I absolutely loved the plot continuation and how the story broadens out. The fleeing from the cops and criminally things were so enjoyable as they aren't in books much. I loved the romance, though I wasn't keen on the constant push and pull. Erik was my favourite from book 1, so I'm happy with the direction. I loved the pacing and the plot twists, the interactions with the characters too!

Though this book isn't what I expected when it was pitched as a 'zombie' novel, I was surprisingly impressed. The zombies are used as metaphors and the story is more of a contemporary romance rather than supernatural. Though this book was a debut novel, it read so poetically and reminded me of Tahereh Mafi's work. The plot was simple and I enjoyed the artistic references (though I had to Google some). The ending was beautiful.

I received this book for my birthday earlier this year from a friend, and I don't know why it's taken me so long to read it😅It was a very interesting murder mystery and I enjoyed the 'Sherlock Holmes' feel. Though a little slow and I did predict who the killer was, I enjoyed the events that played out, and especially liked the interaction between Strike and Robin. Overall it was a good book but could have been shorter.
