😭😭😭 this did not live up to the hype. DNF
I read this book in a single day and just had to hop on here to rave about it! It was so cozy and full of magic and I just loved it so so much.

I didn't think I would find a book to help me get over my Prison Healer book hangover so this was such a pleasant surprise. I loved that Allesandra was a bit of a villain. It was so fun to watch her plotting against the Shadow King. I do wish the king's magic and world had been a bit more fleshed out but overall a fantastic, fast-paced fantasy romance featuring a main character who was a breath of fresh air.
Five stars.
Crying, screaming 😭 omg chapter 32 I knew it was coming but dang! Great book, the way I immediately needed book two hasn't been matched since the Scythe series. This book was amazing 🤩👏🏽
This was riveting. I didn't know what to expect with this book, I typically don't read auto- biographies but this was so interesting. The author's journey is incredible and poignant. I laughed out loud and cried just a bit too.
I was feeling nostalgic and wanted something that would excite me like The Selection. This wasn't exactly it. I felt like the entirety of the book was just a vehicle to get the reader to the final scene. I'm not sure I'll continue reading the series.
If you enjoyed The Cruel Prince then you will eat this up! I loved revisiting Elfhame and Wren is a badass that gives Jude a run for the crown. The ending was super satisfying but I'm looking forward to what happens next.
Amazing 🤩 I loved the world-building so so much, lush and vivid characters. Do yourself a favor and get the audiobook, the narrator is fantastic.
I wanted to love this book. I like the author and I'm a huge fan of high fantasy. I got both the hardbound and the audiobook from the library. The audio sped things up for me but I had to DNF around the 80% mark. I just found that I didn't care about any of the characters or their quest. The world-building isn't complicated and there is a nicely diverse cast of characters but...it was just so boring. Maybe there is a great plot twist at the end?
This was a fun and easy read. The ending was a bit predictable but I really appreciated the unique world-building that is set in a not at all distant future.
Well I listened to all 24 hours and it was an incredible journey. Kuang did a good job of backing Rin into a corner so that the ending was inescapable. However, this wasn't the ending I would have liked and I found myself cringing during the epilogue. I can see why this series is as hyped as it is as the story telling and writing style is fantastic. And the audiobook narrator (Michelle Woo) has become a new favorite.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I am not okay. I literally knew the ending and I am still not okay. I feel heartless now. Poor Catherine. What an engaging read!
"I am not empty. I am full to the brim with murder and revenge. I am overflowing and I do not think you wish for me to overflow onto you."
A delightful surprise and unique storyline for the Queen of Hearts. I LOVED this book!
Ahhhhhhhh!!!
This book, y'all! I read it in a day, it was such an emotional ride with just an entirely perfect ending to the series. Gosh, I just loved it so much.
Umm, how? How is the second book even better?! I couldn't put it down and had to download the sample for book 3 bc I couldn't wait for my copy of book 3 to arrive.
The ending was just spectacular.
Holy Toledo this book had me in a chokehold from the first chapter. I read it in under 24 hours. The plot was refreshing and the dystopian future unique in the most unexpected ways. I loved this book!
This book has already surprised me, I'm anticipating it to be another 5 Star Read
So after the incredible first book in series I was looking forward to the next installment. Once again, the narrator (I listened to audiobook) did an amazing job handling the large cast. But for me, this book struggled with a bit of middle-book slump. Several events needed to occur and be explained, but for me, I found myself in turns either bored with the narrative or annoyed by Rin. The ending was super strong though and I will continue reading.
I wasn't sure what expectations to have about this book. It was recommended on Booktok fairly heavily, and a few other book reviewers I follow, so I finally gave it a try. OMG I'm so sad I took so long. This book was incredible and sucked me in from the opening line. This one definitely lives up to the hype!
I listened to the audio and oh dang was this good! The narrator does an awesome job handling the large cast and this book is action packed and gory and gritty. It shows the horror of war against the background of a type of imperial culture and it was amazing. Please be aware of triggers!
"Go ride a dragon."
Definitely still my favorite insult! ?
I forgot how much I loved this author's series the Uglies so I was excited to find this at my library. It was such a unique story and Frey is a badass. I can't wait to get my hands on book two!
Current read.
"Darkness is rising."
In the Mortal Realm, mortals from powerful bloodlines saved their lands whenever chaos erupted, aided by the Gods. Tales of heroes from ancient times were passed down to each generation, never to be forgotten.
This book was a great continuation of Year One. I was worried we would lose focus on some of the larger cast but this was not the case. I didn't think it was as good as Year One but I still immediately bought the audiobook for The Rise of Magicks and I am LOVING it so far.
I love the new cover for this book 🤩
An Eternal Flame.
A Powerful Secret.
Scorched Earth & Dangerous Games.
This far exceeded my expectations! I was so reluctant to read bc of all the hype but omg the twists at the end. I simply can't wait for the next book.
Just finished these beauties! If you were wondering, this duology lives up to the hype!
I listened to the audio book and really enjoyed it! I think this book was just the set up to a larger grander story and I can't wait to read the next one.
