The Rosie Effect
The Rosie Effect: A Novel | Graeme Simsion
With The Rosie Project, Graeme Simsion achieved the impossible and created an entirely new kind of romantic hero, Jojo Moyes, author of Me Before You said. Now Don Tillman returns in the hilarious and charming sequel to the international sensation. Get ready to fall in love all over again.Don sets about learning the protocols of becoming a father, but his unusual research style gets him into trouble with the law. Fortunately his best friend Gene is on hand to offer advice: hes left Claudia and moved in with Don and Rosie. Picking up where The Rosie Project left off, The Rosie Effect is a fun, hilarious, and poignant read. Don Tillman helps us believe in possibility, makes us proud to be human beings, and the bonus is this: he keeps us laughing like hell (Matthew Quick, author of The Silver Linings Playbook).

Not as enjoyable as the first, The Rosie Project, this still was a quick playful book. Trials and tribulations with Rosie and Don. He‘s still estimating BMI, and still attempting to navigate marriage and pregnancy. #SummersEndReadathon. #8

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

From what I gathered in reviews about this novel in the Don Tillman trilogy, it is the least likeable of the 3. Personally, I actually preferred it to the first one even though I was so frustrated with Rosie and some of her decisions. So happy with how it ended.

Before reading this book for book club, I had heard a lot of people say it wasn‘t as good as the first one so I was a little anxious about it. However, I found that I really enjoyed it. The first was better, but I think that‘s just because Don (the lead character) was a fresh idea and now we are kind of used to his mannerisms. That means it‘s harder for the author to surprise the reader. I didn‘t enjoy Rosie as much in this book though...

I‘m on the family farm for the first week of school holidays. I tried to go for a walk and listen to the tagged audiobook but my niece had other plans. We managed to walk around one paddock before she requested to go back to the homestead. While I attempted to stretch she did my hair (in other words spray detangler in my eyes!) Lucky she is cute. #BFC2 #smallsteppersalright

So, these were my #aprilreads As you can see I am a tad behind. 😳 Life is just busy ALL. THE. TIME. I can‘t lock down time to read.

Tagged book was my favourite, but Virgil Wander & In An Absent Dream were close seconds.

It was a fairly good month, but one of the slower months so far in 2019. Actually, May has been even slower. I‘ll post about that in July. 😂

Highly recommend. This is the 2nd story about Don and Rosie. Don is on the autism spectrum, but refuses to admit it. The story begins with Don being told by Rosie that they are pregnant. Don panics. The story goes on in frantic and hilarious form as Don realizes he cannot be a good father. The story twists and turns until the ending. I enjoyed this story.

I love this series!
You get attached to Don so easily. He's a wonderful character and I love following his journey.
The author understand Don's personality very well and it is very well written.
It's very light read but Don gets into many troubles, which makes it more interesting. It's not only about romance and it's a funny read also. 🙂

Didn‘t like this nearly as much as the first book. Still cute but It didn‘t feel realistic to me. I think that if Rosie knew Don as well as she did, she would have realized all of his good intentions and not gotten so upset with him. Also, while the comedy of errors is part of the charm of these books, this seemed a bit much.. and this audio narrator‘s “American” accent was... 😬.

Melissa_J I agree with this review. I loved the first book, but this one was only ok. There were a couple of really funny moments though. I‘ll still read the third book. 6mo

I loved this, even more than I loved the first book. The #audiobook 🎧 are read by the author & Don‘s lines are read perfectly! I laughed, I almost cried, but mostly I became FURIOUS during this book!

I found myself getting angry at the way Don was treated throughout the book, not just by strangers or that HORRIBLE psychologist, Lydia, but by his friends & family!

(More in the comments. 👇🏻 I have a lot to say about this book!)

greenhairdontcare I struggled to understand why Rosie, Gene, everyone got so annoyed with Don. I can appreciate how frustrating he would be at times & I understand that everyone was looking out for pregnant, stressed out Rosie, but I felt there was an utter lack of compassion & empathy for Don‘s needs & how he was processing the situation! I feel this may have been the point of this story. (edited) 7mo
greenhairdontcare I find myself so absorbed in these books. I always come out the other side viewing the world & thinking, a little differently. I‘m keen to start the third book in the series! 7mo
Messiejessie I simply loved these books! They give you so much to think about. I also found the second book really frustrating. Which yes - I agree, was probably the whole point! 7mo
Messiejessie The 3rd book is even better! Enjoy 😊 7mo

Enjoyed this sequel to The Rosie Project, though it definitely wasn‘t quite as captivating. I feel like the author really lost the sense of the character, Rosie, and the loss of her complex presence in the story made it a little one dimensional. The story was like a series of misunderstandings until it finally resolved in the last chapter.

Overall, still glad I read but missing the subtleties of the first book.

Rosie is pregnant, and Don gets into trouble as usual, this time in pursuit of becoming the perfect father and husband. Rosie sees things differently, and the relationship is in trouble. Don's perspective is still unique, fun, ultra rational and socially inept. His biggest challenge is Rosie, whom I wanted to shake... Ahhh! The characters are fun but the plot is often contrived, and it is less fresh than the Rosie Project. 3.5 stars.

Ich bin gespannt was du dazu schreibst! 2y
