I love bike riding, and I like Rush, but I didn‘t know much about the band members. I mostly liked this book. We covered poverty in Africa in school, and I was surprised how available food was to some of them. I didn‘t realize that there were families where the women did both the providing and the care taking, and was sad. Peart has a sense of humor and emotional intelligence, for the most part. I might read another of his books in the long term.

Everything I love about a unique history. Short chapters featuring varying perspectives, myths, legends, and changes through time. Jody is a cyclist himself and as research traveled and joined other riders, sometimes embarrassing himself, just always sharing from an authentic voice, never putting himself on a pedestal...

MaggieCarr ...I enjoy his own biking memories tied in with cross-culture movements, styles of bikes, sports, and the economics of cycling. The pictures were extremely helpful in referencing more obscure styles unknown to myself. 1y

Went for a Fall Bike Ride yesterday!

This may or may not be the ride that counts toward my #Scarathlon2022 Bucket List. Hopefully, we‘ll have the chance to go for more before it gets too cold. The foliage wasn‘t at its peak quite yet. There are so many more wonders of the season to behold! 🍁

*Note: I‘m behind the lens, not in front of it. I didn‘t suddenly grow a beard. Or, not one that‘s this impressive, anyway. 😉😆

monalyisha +1 participation. Running total, week 2 = 2 points. #Scarathlon2022 #TeamMonsterMash 2y

This was my March #bookspin, which I DNFed this week. The audio was really funny and it was cute, but I realized after about 25% that I don't love adventure stories. It was a read for #middlegrademarch, and I would still recommend it for others, but it was not for me. @thearomaofbooks

This book has been a wonder so far teaching me about the mechanical side of bikes while also showing special skills and how to ride properly.

1. Las Vegas, New York City, Miami FL.
2. Cooking. I find it very soothing, trying new recipes, tweaking them to my personal taste (aka making them spicier)
3. How UFOs Conquered The World. Sadly it wasn't very good.
4. I'm off work Wednesday and Thursday, and both days are supposed to have gorgeous weather.

It's helpful and comforting at times to read about the bizarre ideas people not long ago had about women and the chaos that would ensue if women did reckless things like exercise or wear clothing that didn't restrict breathing or the ability to pass through doorways. It puts progress in perspective. I should have gotten the physical copy of this book because I suspect the illustrations are amusing. (A title from Build Your Library, level 6.)

“Imagine a summer night. It's warm enough to not wear a hoodie and you're biking with no shoes on. Your friends are laughing and joking, biking next to you. If you're biking fast enough and keep your eyes focused in front of you the traffic lights turn into golden shooting stars above and beside. It reminds you of magic.”👇

LiterRohde “But also the nights you sat in the backseat of a car, watching the raindrops slowly slide down the window.

You remember thinking that if you focus your eyes on the raindrops the passing cars look like golden comets shooting by, one by one, and it reminded you of being young, biking with your friends on empty streets at midnight.”👇

LiterRohde “You're happy but it's all such a blur and if you close your eyes you can both escape and hold on to the moments a little bit longer. You want both. You want to escape and hold on at the same time, and that's why it hurts.” 4y
