I've been eyeing this book for a while now and just, it was SO GOOD!! A sweet middle grade graphic novel about being different and fitting in. Didn't expect the twist in it. Read in one sitting and definitely enjoyed the exploration of friendship

This is a quick, cute graphic novel written for a middle-grade audience. It's about the struggle to find your place and about being compassionate and patient with others and ourselves. Perhaps a little overly simple, emotionally, but that's consistent with my experience of many other graphic novels. My son and I read this as part of the Build Your Library homeschool curriculum, level 6.

Went to the library and came home with a truckload! Luna approves.

1. This is tough, but the first that sprang to mind was Matthew from Anne of Green Gables. That devastated me as a kid.

2. Again way too tough so I'll limit myself to reads from the past year and say The City We Became!

Very cute graphic novel about the ups and downs of friendship.

This Graphic Novel is a Juvenile Fiction coming of age story about two Chinese American girls who although live in similar worlds of Suburbs are quite opposite but become best friends. Moon, is a girl who shares a very strange secret with Christine: she has visions and can sometimes talk to celestial beings. It is also a man Asian/Pacif American Award Winner. #ucflae3414sp20

I love the way that friendship with a loud, confident Chinese American girl turns out to be the best thing that has happened to a timid Taiwanese American girl. There can never be enough stories about the complexities of friendship. I also love creator Jen Wang‘s portrayal of diversity within the Chinese community. A sweet, poignant #graphicnovel for all ages.

Two sisters have been fed a vegetarian evening meal at their neighbours, and then their mom is horrified that they haven‘t had meat, so she makes them eat chicken nuggets before they go to bed. Does this still happen, people?

I love everything about this text-free page layout: the shifting perspective of seeing Christine, the central character, from behind (head shot) as she watches the new girl, then from the front, and especially the way she‘s seated in the white gutter on the frame of a panel, her dangling feet leading us to the next scene (at home). The gutter space is where action happens in readers‘ heads between panels. Christine is at a precipice/turning point.

Jen Wang‘s depiction of a preteen dancing with abandon (top) reminds me of a scene created by Jillian Tamaki in This One Summer (bottom).

Starting off today with a new book. Let‘s see if this children‘s graphic novel will work with the weird reading mood I‘ve been in for the past 10 days.

Stargazing by Jen Wang a Momo Oolong from Lupicia tea as the kids learn how to draw Pokémon characters. A nice way to spend a chilly and cloudy Sunday morning. Also the husband has a cold so we are keeping things nice and easy and not so rowdy with drawing today. How is (or was) your weekend?

i really enjoyed this! the story, while short, was entertaining and fun to read. the graphics made it even better and i loved the plot. it was a super creative book and i would definitely recommend if you like graphic novels!

I loved Jen Wang‘s The Prince and the Dressmaker, but I might have liked this one more. It was a sweet story that would be relatable to all kids but also highlights a specific Asian American community. Mostly it‘s the story of a developing friendship between Christine, a more traditional girl seeking her parents‘ approval, and Moon, a free-spirited girl who isn‘t afraid to be herself. Pick!

Based on the author/artists real-life medical history and just a great, great depiction of (especially childhood, but also those later in life) friendship, this was a sweet graphic novel that made me both smile and cry a little bit, and that's all I'm asking. ❤️

A cute ya graphic novel about a girl who makes a new friend who doesn‘t fit it and has to deal with that as well as a health issue.

Loved this sweet story about friendship, guilt, and forgiveness. Based on the author‘s personal experience, this is a great read for fans of Shannon Hale‘s Real Friends.

I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end! Illustrations were awesome as well. This is a story of a new girl who gets befriended by an awkward (but of course!) neighbor/landlord's daughter. A lot of things happen throughout this book that can happen in real life... jealousy, fights, etc. Ending was superb and cute. Really good story.

Just setting up for the #readathon #deweyoct today #deweyreadathon #readathonhourlyphoto and can‘t wait to dive into some graphic novels. I can‘t read the whole day since we have plans for the night to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary but hoping to get through this stack during the day maybe.

After my last two #screamathon reads, I had to go for something a little lighter. I don‘t think this was a good as Wang‘s The Prince and the Dressmaker. Some of it needed fleshing out a bit more, but I loved Moon. In the end, this was sweet and uplifting.

This was absolutely adorable! And I loved the little snippets of Chinese and Buddhist culture that were included.

Another great graphic novel for young readers to adults! Thanks again to NetGalley and First Second for allowing me to read this ARC. I fell in love with the cover and description, and of course the author (who wrote “The Prince and the Dressmaker”), so I knew I had to read it! The title also fits in well with our summer reading theme ⭐️

Even after having finished this book, I really have no idea what is is about. Kids are afraid of the girl Moon because she is mean. Moon moves into an apartment behind Christine‘s house and gets to know Moon. There is dancing, being a girl, etc, and the beginnings of a friendship. But the book is all over the place. You also have a wacky terrible surprise ending that comes out of almost nowhere but doesn't really end either.

What an excellent, charming, visually stunning, laugh out loud, tear-inducing, heartwarming story that will stick with me for a long, long time. You need this on your bookshelf!! I cannot contain my squeals- this comic is SO CUTE 🥺😭🥰

I love Jen‘s work. This book, which draws on events from her childhood, is a heartfelt look at feeling like you‘re not enough and that you don‘t fit it. There are so many moments in here that are universal to childhood, the jealousy you feel when one of your friends seems to be better friends with someone else or when your parents seem so strict by comparison to your friends‘ parents. Just so much in here that rings true.
