Paper Lanterns | Stefan Czernecki
post image

We went to my daughter's lantern festival. I had to improvise and made two lanterns in 10 minutes. Glow sticks for the win!

Best thing about this though, managed the brisk walk home from the school without being winded in any way. This is what all the rounds of #BFC have done for me.

wanderinglynn Yay! I‘m so happy You have gotten something out of BFC. ☺️ 3w
julesG @wanderinglynn Also lost 4 kilos, changed some food habits, made water a priority, do yoga every day now (my physiotherapist told me, she can see the differences), AND my kids have become more active and healthier eaters. 3w
Crazeedi Great job! BFC has been a blessing! 3w

This month‘s Cookbook Club read looks thorough and delicious. It even includes wine pairings! I can wait to start experimenting.

This F book would be the best DR for young readers. The story is about a giant mooncake that Little Star's mom made for her. She asks her, daughter, not to eat it all too fast. By night after night, Little Star eats the moon cake until it is all gone! The students would have a blast reenacting this story. #ucflae3414f19

YesseniaN As a classroom activity, I would create a story map on the whiteboard in just words. Afterward I would ask the class to create a story map with pictures. ESOL strategy offering multiple means of representation for the same information. https://www.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=57535
UDL principle: Use multiple tools for construction and composition (5.2)

JRone This is an awesome book to learn to moon phases! Students would love this and would have fun recreating for sure. You could even do it with oreos as a fun activity and treat for them! 1mo
fabozzia This is a great post! I love your idea of class activities after reading this book! 1mo

The Nian Monster | Andrea Wang
post image

(Author: Andrea Wang, illus: Alina Chau) CMC
Xingling is ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year, but trouble arises when the legendary Nian Monster appears to devour her and all of Shanghai. She will need to use her quick thinking and creativity to outwit the Nian Monster and save her city in time for the festivities. This TL is perfect for RT, having multiple students play the narrators and the two major roles of the Nian Monster and Xingling.

kgarzon PB Award Honor Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association. This book is a great way to introduce another culture into the classroom and demonstrate how every country around the world celebrates the New Year. http://andreaywang.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Teachers-Guide-for-The-Nian-Mo... This and the book's AN detail Chinese decorations and clarify the traditions listed throughout the book. Students can use props for RT. 1mo
kgarzon UDL Principle 2.1 (Clarify vocabulary and symbols) may be important due to the content-heavy vocabulary and imagery.
EL Strategy 24 (Incorporate the culture and the language of second language learners in your curriculum) is present in the Chinese terms expressed throughout the book (with translations in the author‘s note) and the traditions surrounding the Lunar New Year that the book is centered around

DrSpalding I believe you are the only student to identify an Asian/pacific American librarians association award winning book. Good for you! Readers theater is a quality strategy to enhance fluency. 3d
