Hmm...I didn't like this one as much. It feels labored and with too many twists and close calls and subplots. I think I'll go with The Poet next and take a little Bosch break.

Bosch has plenty of trouble, his beloved home has been damaged in an earthquake, & he‘s been suspended. He takes the time to dig into an old cold case , this time it‘s personal.Bosch always in trouble for coloring outside the lines, usually in pursuit of Justice . Great read ! Number 4 in the series.

A good book. Have read many Michael Connelly books. This gives a lot of background on Detective Harry Bosch‘s childhood and his mother‘s murder. Very atmospheric.

While on administrative leave from the LAPD and going to mandated therapy sessions, Bosch starts independently digging into his mother's cold case murder. While it's no surprise that the threads start to unravel, boy does Connelly know how to deliver some killer twists along the way! Great series.

(PS: you can disregard the Litsy synopsis for this book completely, it's 100% wrong for some reason)

Tove_Reads I‘m about to start reading this one very soon. 2y

Book #4 in the Harry Bosch series was a good one. A lot of loose ends got tied up & the author could‘ve ended here. I‘m glad he didn‘t as I‘m looking forward to more Harry stories. This book focuses mostly on Harry trying to solve the 30-year old murder of his mother.

I know that I just said that the third book was my favorite so far in the series... but now it may be that I like this fourth installment even more!! Bosch uses some time off to dive into the murder of his mother- it‘s fast paced and exciting- and great for #audiocoloring!

NatalieR Great job! Your picture is absolutely gorgeous! 💜 4y

Harry Bosch #4! Just as good as The Black Echo (#1). Harry is on paid break from the LAPD, so he independently investigates his mother‘s death from 1961. I missed Harry‘s coworkers as he wasn‘t in-office, but I loved all of the twists and suspense as the case unfolded.

So neat to see into Harry‘s thoughts as he talked openly with a shrink. The detailed retelling of his mom‘s case is also great —> I learned more about why Harry is the way he is.

MicheleinPhilly I‘m on book 6 already. 😬 5y

Finito ! And thank god there are 16 more to go in this series. I'm a fan ❤️. "At first it was a gentle reunion .....,,then he pulled her tightly as if she were a bandage that could stop his bleeding......" " when you find the one that you think fits, then grab on for dear life......" We all need a rock, Littens. Great book, it's my fave so far. Maybe the story , or maybe the momentum builds with each book. Whatever it is, it's good ❤️

batsy @Cathythoughts This is a series I haven't read! I want to because of your posts 👍 5y
Cathythoughts @batsy I'm on the 4th book. I'm not even sure how many there are. Only discovered Michael Connelly( a few months ago) while reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog ( the concierge read all classics, but liked crime, if it was Mankell or Connelly. Bosch is called after Hieronymus Bosch. He is really growing on me. Luckily there are LOTS of book in this series. ❤️thanks 🙏 (edited) 5y

Andrew65 @Cathythoughts We are at the same point as The Poet is next up for me but a while since I read a Michael Connelly book for some unknown reason. 5y

Littens. Just walked the mutts , Then there are the visitors & life in general ofcorse. I am in awe at your reading abilities. I'm still on Last Coyote. Very slow on the audio Exit West ( LOVE both) Just got Sleeping Beauties & have to/ can't wait to , read Wuthering Heights for my next bookclub. I'm waaaaaay behind. I'm starting the "Swiss cheese" approach. I'll read or audio any little holes I get in the day. Any tips !!!

TrishB I'm incredibly selfish with my reading and have to have at least an hour or so each evening! And I read really fast so that helps! 5y
Cathythoughts yes I think you have a gift @TrishB ! You are an inspiration 💫 5y
Andrew65 I agree about finding some time each evening and if too tired to physically read in the evening I will listen to an audiobook. For some reason some days reading those little words on a page sends me to sleep but listening doesn't! Also we have kicked tv into touch which means more reading time. 5y

Cathythoughts @andrew65 yes I think reading makes me more sleepy too. And telly is only for the news or a special movie/series. I think having visitors threw me. Getting set in my reading ways !!! Thanks ! I'll get back on a roll soon. The books become so personal, I missed Bosch , felt like I'd deserted him. Reading becomes such an intimate part of ones life 🙏 (edited) 5y
julesG Reading is not a competitor sport. Try making it a regular habit if you haven't yet. And don't feel discouraged by the speed readers on Litsy. 😉 5y
Cathythoughts @julesG thankyou for that. I do read everyday , a little or a lot/ depending..... if anything I find I read a lot more since I joined Litsy. Im loving all the different posts& tastes in books. Just get overwhelmed ( prob a personality trait) . Love the audio knitting posts😍 5y
julesG Litsy has made me read more, too. But it has also made me spend a lot more time online looking at people's posts. I get overwhelmed by how fast people are, too. Then again, since I've become unemployed I've managed to get a lot more books read and a lot more audio knitting done. So, I'm cheating, kind of. 😉 5y
TrishB Aww...just enjoy I would say. We all wish we could read more (honestly!). 5y
Ms_T I‘m fortunate to have the kind of job where I can read and still be working. And of course, my audiobooks help me zone out of the drudgery of housework 😃Also, remember it‘s quality not quantity! (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @Ms_T I would agree totally, it is always about the quality of the reading experience. 5y
batsy I understand about being overwhelmed! And I think maybe it's a personality thing on my end, too. I have no solid advice but I think to just do any amount of reading on a day-to-day basis that gives you pleasure and satisfaction. I completely agree with @Ms_T that quality is what matters. 😊 5y
Cathythoughts @Ms_T @batsy @Andrew65 thanks all for the Litsy support. And yes quality is also the most important for me too. #toeachtheirownpace 🙏🙏🙏 5y

Harry has been suspended after pushing his boss's face through a plate glass window ( face it, we've all been tempted) and decides to use his enforced leisure to find out the truth about his mother's murder 35 years previously. Bosch is such a great character -the epitome of the "maverick cop with a drink problem and demons" but he somehow never comes across as clichéd. Loved it and gave it 4/5 stars on Goodreads.

Cathythoughts Last Coyote is next Bosch in line for me. Can't wait. Sounds great. And BTW book number 5 , Trunk Music, is on kindle in Ireland ( I presume England ) for 89 cents, right now ! (edited) 5y

Littens, I'm freaking out a little. I have to go a town meeting to speak about coyotes because someone claims a coyote killed their dog and now everyone is bringing out the pitchforks to kill all the coyotes. I work as a naturalist at the local nature center, so I've been asked to speak on their behavior and alternative solutions to trapping and killing. I have lost a pet to a coyote before, so I know how it is. But coyotes are important!

DragonSadhana The above picture is obviously not a coyote, but is a cousin. Whenever I let her outside, I GO WITH HER, because duh, she's seven pounds and there are predators outside (and not just coyotes, but bobcats and hawks). 6y
