Broken Things | Lauren Oliver

Which books are you desperately scrambling to finish by the end of the year?

I‘m listening to “The Lady‘s Guide to Petticoats & Piracy” during my hour-long work commute, reading “I Ate the Cosmos for Breakfast” (a book of poems), putting-off “Manhattan Beach” for my December book club meeting, & I started “Broken Things” (a YA Fantasy/Thriller) one day when I forgot the book I was reading at home. Wish me luck! 🤞🏻

ravenlee You can do it! 13mo
Soubhiville I‘m working on Interesting Times- Pratchett, The Stupidest Angel- Moore, South Pole Station- Shelby, The Good Neighbor- King, And I have Lilac Girls from the library... I don‘t expect to finish them all, but probably at least 3... 📚🤪 13mo
monalyisha @Soubhiville I‘m hoping to finish all except the YA! I think that‘s *almost* a realistic goal for me. 😅 Almost. 3 books is a good goal! Rooting for us! 😉 (edited) 13mo
Soubhiville Me too! 13mo

#thefinalcountdown by Europe. The best I can do is a book that takes place in Europe. So here you go. #rocktobet

BarbaraBB I come across this book continuously here at Litsy. Is it good? 2y
CocoReads @BarbaraBB I'm only on Chapter 5 but so far I like it. There's a readalong going on right now with @BrainyHeroine so that probably explains a lot of it. Plus it's a good October read. 2y
Cinfhen That's outside the box thinking 🙌🏻 2y

Catching up on Day 1 #rocktober #thefinalcountdown.
My Litsy A To Z reading challenge is almost complete. Could have easily finished earlier but I was distracted by so many other books! I‘m doing a combination of author and title, and the books must be from my physical TBR (an attempt to put a small dent on my TBR).

Cinfhen Wow! Super impressive! You really put the word CHALLENGE into this one 🙌🏻 2y
BarbaraBB Really counting down! 2y

#hpchapteraday Act 4, Scene 12/Theme:Grief 🤔Harry's grief at having to watch Voldemort kill his parents is wrenching so it's good he has his family & friends there to support him.💔 🐱Max says that he gives his mom lots of grief about it taking forever to read this darn book. He's happy that we're in #TheFinalCountdown & there's only 3 scenes to go!😺(Do you like how we multitasked & worked in the #Rocktober photo challenge?!)😹🤣#catsoflitsy😽❤️

A Night in the Lonesome October | Roger Zelazny, Gahan Wilson
post image

I've never read any Roger Zelazny, but I've always loved this title whenever I came across it, so I picked it up to read this year.

If I'm understanding the premise it's about Jack the Ripper vs Sherlock Holmes, and Dracula and Frankenstein's monster get involved somehow... all told from the point of view of the Ripper's dog, Snuff.

31 chapters and the back of the book recommends one a day so that's what I'll do. #thefinalcountdown #Rocktober

rubyslippersreads This looks like fun. 🎃🦇 2y
BarbaraBB That‘s a nice way to read the book. A real countdown! 👍 2y
Cayuse You beat me to it! Was going to post this one next week. Love Zelazny, but this is one of his most memorable. 2y

Bum bum bum buuum! Bum bum bum bum bum!!!! It's the first day of #rocktober and that means it's #thefinalcountdown

🎶 We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?🎶

I decided to go with The Lathe of Heaven, a novel about climate change that's on my immediate TBR--talk about a final countdown!

Natasha.C.Barnes Except there are definitely people to blame. 😣 2y
BarbaraBB Good choice and so true😟 2y
Natasha.C.Barnes @BarbaraBB 😭😭 I try not to think about it too much, but yeah, I'm basically convinced we're all going to die. Fun times. 2y

BarbaraBB If not for the climate then for some other reason. No doubts there 😉 2y
Natasha.C.Barnes @BarbaraBB Hahahahahahaha yeah, I guess mortality is a thing. 2y
BarbaraBB But still it is depressing...! 2y

Reviewsbylola I loved Furies SO MUCH. Unfortunately Emma was a letdown. 2y
AmyG I already have The Hearts Invisible Furies and can't wait to read it. I got Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances and Sleeping Beauties. 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I chose Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances (out of my usual genre) and Manhattan Beach 😊 2y

bookloo I chose The Power, and regret not adding Beasts since I‘ve heard so many good things about it. 2y
MrsV I got Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances, and The Dark Lake along with Furies. 2y
vlwelser I haven't read The Dark Lake, but the other 2 were excellent. Happy Reading! 2y
Alfoster I liked Emma! 2y
britt_brooke I haven't read any of them but The Heart's Invisible Furies is in my TBR. 2y
Cinfhen Hearts is on my TBR, I'm taking a break from thrillers so I passed on Dark Lake & I thought Emma was ok but nothing special. Can't wait to hear your thoughts 2y
Lizpixie I wasn't a fan of The Dark Lake at all. The thriller part wasn't bad but the main character drove me nuts. 2y
Bookaddictpnw I found Emma to be quite formulaic. Heart's Invisible Furies is truly a masterpiece tho!! Made me laugh and cry - it is powerful. 2y
