This is a lovely, sweet, charming story, and also really sinister and creepy. Classic Neil Gaiman. Listened to the audiobook, great narration by Dawn French.

A creepy yet endearing read. I love the movie and finally decided to read the book to fulfill a reading challenge prompt. This is one of those rare times where I love both the movie and the book. Coraline is an unexpected heroine. Calm but acknowledging her fear along the way.
FYI Neil Gaiman has a lovely voice. He narrated the audiobook.
Lookie what I painted. 😍
Yes, those are real buttons for her eyes.

I could have sworn that I posted this when I listened to this. But anyway, I listened to the Audible version of it. I loved the production of it! It was great!

Neil Gaiman is such a favourite of mine; I've been wanting to read this book since I watched the film years ago and it definitely didn't disappoint🪡🧵 #Scarathlon #TeamMonsterMash
Love this book more with every re-read. 💜
The mix of creepy with the wonderment of childhood imagination pulls me into this story every time I read it. If you've never read it, do yourself a favor and add it to your TBR.

“It is astonishing just how much of what we are can be tied to the beds we wake up in in the morning, and it is astonishing how fragile that can be.”
A perfect example of speculative fiction. It breaks down the 3rd wall and creates this book that is filled with imagery. It shows how you can be kind, curious, and courageous.
A book that‘s with mystery and mysterious events. A wonderful that keeps you on your toes the whole time.
I love this movie/book! I would definitely want to show this in my classrooms, to show that we should be appreciated of what we have and that the grass isn‘t always greener on the other side. I believe this is also a great movie to show because of how beautifully told it is and how beautiful the movie is!
Coraline is a book/movie about a young girl who is unhappy in her life, and finds a passage way to another world where everything is greater. She finds out that things aren‘t always as they seem, and sometimes what we have is what‘s best for us.
“Being brave didn‘t mean you weren‘t scared. Being brave meant you were scared, really scared, badly scared, and you did the right thing, anyway.”
The movie Coraline follows the life of a young girl who discovers a door that leads her to an alternate universe. The movie includes elements of speculative fiction such as button eyes, talking animals, and magical toys.
I own both this version and the GN and decided to read both and compare. The GN actually uses the original text in its entirety, but I still found the reading experience so drastically different! I love the original print version, and the Chris Riddell illustrations in my edition, but the illustrations in the GN version look nothing like what I imagine when I read the original and I just couldn‘t get into that adaptation.

This was a really good, creepy read. Glad I finally got around to reading it. I especially love the cat.

This is a solid pick for most ages. I think Gaiman did a great job of nailing the main character and making her realistic with facets like being annoying when she‘s bored and having that sense of adventure the you g often have. I enjoyed this thoroughly but was a tad underwhelmed by the ending….I guess I just expected something more dramatic to happen. Overall, it was fun and I enjoyed the author narrating his own work in the audiobook!
One of my favorite books to read this time of year. 💚

@JoeMo ! Some of the books on your list look absolutely terrifying to me 🤣. So I picked a mix of horror and Halloween!
I hope you find something you love!

I only had a slight idea of what this book was about as I‘ve never read it or seen the movie(s) based on it.
I liked the story. Did not like Coraline at times she came across a bit bratty. She was a smart girl though.
Over all the characters are good and the story is good. I can see why this is a favorite.
Recommend.
Next up.

Hello Littens. Happy September!!! I apologize for not getting this out sooner. But here is the #NWC book for September & October. Are you planning on reading it?

Of course I had to choose Coraline for this letter! It's a much loved book by one of my favorite authors! And it remains one of the few instances where I enjoyed the movie as much as the book! ❤️📚
"You really don't understand, do you?" she said. "I don't want whatever I want. Nobody does. Not really. What kind of fun would it be if I just got everything I ever wanted? Just like that, and it didn't mean anything. What then?"
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Skin crawlingly nightmarish in every way! This spine-chilling tale is very likely haunting me even as I'm writing this & probably will until my dying day. My stomach can't help but churn at the prospect of buttons for eyes! Vividly imaginative, check-under-your-bed kind of spooky & exquisitely written, with the most terrifying antagonist I've ever laid eyes on - The Other Mother! Classic Gaiman horror, unique in every way. For the young & old! 😳

Bless Coraline‘s cool head and brave heart. She‘s an inspiring protagonist, while still being entirely relatable.
Gaiman combines incredible fantasy with the real and very ordinary world.
He encapsulates perfectly what I remember it can be like, to be a child in an adult‘s world.
A book with a lot of morals hidden with the story which will keep you thinking after the final page.
I enjoyed this creepy story - I am surprised it is a children's book - as much as I like horror and creepy stories I think this would have been too much for me as a young child.

Day 256.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
So glad I finally read this! It‘s very different from the movie, which I knew going in, but still. I like both a lot! Also, special thanks to Mr. Gaiman for officially pulling me out of my slump. #ReadSpooky2022 @teebe
