Sense and Sensibility
Sense and Sensibility | Jane Austin
Jane Austen's first published work. Marianne Dashwood falls in love with the dashing but unsuitable John Willoughby and she ignores her sister Elinor's warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Meanwhile Elinor is struggling to conceal her own romantic disappointment. The sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love.

I bought a copy today because I‘ve never actually read it. I‘ve watched the movies and both miniseries of Sense and Sensibility but I feel like I‘m still missing out on bits of the story because I haven‘t read the book yet. Can‘t wait to dig in when I get the book delivered tomorrow. 📖 🤓

TheBookHippie The only Austen I like. I love this book. Enjoy! 2w
batsy I didn't appreciate this too much when I was younger, but now I think it ranks as one of my top two favourite Austens. Hope you enjoy it! 2w

An abbreviated version of the classic story, complete with illustrations. It‘s cute, and would be good for people who are concerned about understanding the language or intimidated by the length of the original novel. One change made to the story is its narration by Margaret, the youngest sister. I liked that the back listed all the changes made, some history, and a small bibliography. #deweysoct book 3

rubyslippersreads I think it would be really fun to hear the story from Margaret‘s POV. 3w
LauraBrook @rubyslippersreads It kind of was! Even though in this one Margaret comes with Elinor and Marianne to London (and seems to be in her early teens), it was nice to have a known narrator. 3w

3.5 stars. Not my favorite Austen, but still worth the read. Scandal and flirtation and a sweeping obsession with money. The characters are full of spunk and individuality. I‘m bemoaning the fact that my one “ship” of the book never came to fruition.

For all my Love of Pride & Prejudice; I must say that Sense & Sensibility has one of the best Literary Heroes - Colonel Brandon. Now when I read this Classic I always see him as the perfection that is Alan Rickman from the movie. Colonel Brandon is a quiet unobtrusive man for the most part. However, when you need a Hero he always comes through. 💙💙💙💙💙

I have read Sense and Sensibility many times, but this was my first time listening. Rosamund Pike is an excellent narrator. She captures the nuances of emotion from each character, and differentiates her voice to suit each personality. I love this story of Eleanor and Marianne. I always come down on the side of Sense, but as I age, I am more sympathetic to the needs of Sensibility.

One of my favorite actresses, Juliet Stevenson, narrates this audio version of S&S and it was as enjoyable as expected!

If you haven‘t seen her in Truly, Madly, Deeply make the effort to find it. It‘s a mushy love story, but totally NOT in the way you‘d expect, otherwise I would 🤢. Ha!

Susanita LOVE that movie! 8mo

Penny_LiteraryHoarders I loved listening to Juliet Stevenson, but her most recent audiobook was for The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock and I had to quit it! 😭 She was giving the characters over-the-top voices and it wasn't her usual wonderfully beautiful work. 😞 But I won't quit her. 😊 8mo
Tamra @Penny_LiteraryHoarders oh, shoot! That‘s too bad, but I guess she‘s not perfect. 😆 I wouldn‘t give up either. I too really dislike it when narrators try too hard to differentiate voices and especially when men imitate women‘s voices in an affected way. Yuck! 8mo
