My better half @wanderer15 is leaving today for an international Scrabble tournament. I miss him already! We were wondering if any Littens have suggestions for things to do in either Hong Kong (he‘ll be starting the trip in Kowloon) or Penang, Malaysia (the tournament is in George Town). Any cool book stores he should visit? Thanks! 💜

rockpools How exciting! No suggestions I'm afraid, but Good Luck @wanderer15 🍀 5y

MaGoose Exciting! Good luck. No suggestions, sorry. 5y
batsy For Georgetown: I haven't been to the bookshop yet but I heard the Gerakbudaya bookshop is pretty great. If he likes architecture, the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion is lovely. And if history is his thing, can't miss Fort Cornwallis. Penang Hill is great for a hike & views & there's lots of wonderful Chinese temples like Kek Lok Si. Don't miss the food & ambience at Gurney Drive. I think the latter has lost some allure lately, but is still required :) 5y
DivineDiana How exciting for him! Sending him lots of good luck! 🍀 5y
LiteraryinLawrence @batsy Wow, thank you for this fantastic advice! The tournament is at a hotel on Gurney Drive, so I‘m sure he‘ll be able to check out that area a lot. And your recommendations for things to do are amazing (wish I was going to be there too!). Thanks. 💜 5y
batsy You're welcome 💜 I hope it helps and hope he has a wonderful time! 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Yup, definitely Gerakbudaya bookshop, it has great local literature. And the places of interest mentioned above 👍. If he‘s interested in secondhand/vintage books, the Chowrasta Market, which has a whole second floor dedicated to books! Hope he has a lovely time in Georgetown and good luck with his tournament. 😊 5y
CarolynM OMG it's about 35 years since I visited Penang, but my suggestion would be eat and then go lie on the beach!😂😂😂 @batsy I have happy memories of Penang Hill until the 3 o'clock downpour! Good luck with the tournament @wanderer15 5y
batsy @erzascarletbookgasm Chowrasta! Yes, excellent suggestion. @CarolynM That is the ideal plan for Penang 😆❤️ Yup, gotta be prepared for the regular downpours like clockwork ... A good time to just head back to the hotel room for a lil siesta before heading out again in the evening for more food 😁 5y
