Deadhouse Gates: Book Two of The Malazan Book of the Fallen | Steven Erikson
29 posts | 28 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
In the vast dominion of Seven Cities, in the Holy Desert Raraku, the seer Sha'ik and her followers prepare for the long-prophesied uprising known as the Whirlwind. Unprecedented in size and savagery, this maelstrom of fanaticism and bloodlust will embroil the Malazan Empire in one of the bloodiest conflicts it has ever known, shaping destinies and giving birth to legends . . . Set in a brilliantly realized world ravaged by dark, uncontrollable magic, this thrilling novel of war, intrigue and betrayal confirms Steven Eirkson as a storyteller of breathtaking skill, imagination and originality--a new master of epic fantasy.

Finally some nice weather! It's a beautiful Monday afternoon and it feels like forever since it's been nice enough for an #Audiowalk. 🤗

Bklover Your snow is beautiful! (edited) 5mo
teebe I was in Winnipeg a few weeks ago and the people I was meeting with told me I just missed -55 😰 Glad to see it‘s warming up! 5mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai @teebe Yeah. The end of January and first week and a half or so of February were pretty rough! I think we're through it though. 🤞🤪 5mo

JHSiess Um . . . having nice weather here, too. A break in the rain & the sun is out. Still cold, though. Current temp: 54 degrees. Yes, that's cold from my perspective. 😎 Can't even imagine -17. Yikes. 😳❄☃️ 5mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai @JHSiess Its all what you're used to. No matter what it's just always so uplifting when the weather switches fron bad to good! 😊 5mo

Finished last night. I don't think I'll be getting into Malazan but I'm going to give the third book a go in early 2019. I appreciate the epic scope but the story never concentrates anywhere long enough for me to feel invested or anything but removed. I said in my Goodreads review that it was like simultaneously reading a 2* and 4* novel 🤷

1. Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, karate Kid, Terminator, Neverending Story, the Last Starfighter.

2. French Fries. With cheese curds and gravy! Poutine, baby! 🇨🇦🍟🇨🇦

3. Cypress Hill has a new single called, Band Of Gypsies I really like. Pumped for the new album to drop. 👌

4. Done. ✔️

5. Done. ✔️

saresmoore Your ten-year-old self has excellent taste in movies. But I don‘t understand almost anything you just said about French fries. 🙃 11mo
Centique I tried poutine here in NZ at a fancy restaurant. My husband LOVED it but it wasn‘t quite my thing. I probably need to try the real thing in Canada right? 11mo

mabell Poutine ❤️❤️❤️ We had some great versions in Montreal! ? But I'm sorry Temple of Doom is horrible. ? [I should say "To Each His Own." I have very strong feelings about Temple of Doom. I felt betrayed after Lost Ark ?] (edited) 11mo
CherryPie Last Starfighter! 11mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai @mabell +1 point for liking poutine. -1 point though for those horrid things you said about Temple of Doom. 😜 You even out though so that's good right? 😁 11mo

Finally starting to find my groove with this.

It certainly isn't a cheery tale though. 🤣

The malazan series is crazy epic in scope and can be a little overwhelming at times - but holy hotdogs are they ever good! 🤘

Jovy I should really get back to this! My fear is I‘ll have to read it again from book 1 to remember all the characters and where I left off (book 5?). It‘s such a good series though. 12mo
InLibrisVeritas I really want to get into this...but it's massive and there are several different suggested reading orders and its already overwhelming 😂 12mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai @InLibrisVeritas I always go by published order (as a rule of thumb). It is massive series though...🙈 12mo
Ddzmini Exactly hope you enjoy them I have one more book and I‘ll be finishing the series I‘ll miss it but I know I‘ll read the series again 😋📖📚 12mo

Alright. It begins. I've read book 1 twice and book 2 once...the rest remain unread.

This needs to be rectified. Many fantasy fans claim this series as the best. While I can't speak to that personally (yet) I do need to finally see what the fuss is about. I'll be starting with a re-read of book 2 and finally begin my journey through this series.

TrishB I‘ve never got to this series.... 13mo
GrilledCheeseSamurai @TrishB I hear ya. I've just always kept putting them off. I'm not gonna read the series straight through. There are books coming up that I'll need to read straight away when they're released. 😜. The plan now, though, is to always have a Malazan book going until I get through them all. 👌 13mo
Melissa_J I‘ve had the first book for years and still haven‘t read it 😬 @TrishB Do you have a copy? We could do a buddy read? 13mo

TrishB @Melissa_J I don‘t but can always rectify 😁 I have one more week of kids picking books! Then one read along to be done before first weekend in July then no reading commitments!! Pick a start day as I‘ll download on kindle 👍🏻 13mo

Just finished this and I‘m looking forward to the next book, but I wasn‘t too happy when Coltaine and Duiker died even though it‘s obvious Coltaine will be reborn🧐🤨 I can tell that this series is going to be addictive as I couldn‘t put this down to get my course work completed but luckily I did 😝

Ddzmini So I was thinking and maybe Duiker didn‘t die 😳... he either ascended or he‘s being healed 😝 1y

Ok so I am a quarter of the way through this and I have to say it is addicting I can‘t or don‘t want to put it down. So I am wondering if I should just start getting his other books in this series 😳📚

I tend to read at a quick pace even with my course work. There are few books that I have to slow down for but this I can already tell is going to be one of them. I am trying new and different reading material so I pick this as one of the choices. I like the books so far it‘s just going to take me a little longer to get through especially since it is longer than a normal book 😝📖

Far better than the first book. Erickson's character and geopolitical development are fantastic. The book contains seemingly non-stop action and excitement, as Erikson effectively supplements higher paced storylines with lulls in others.
I highly recommend this series for anyone who also likes Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series.

THIS. BOOK. OH MY GODS.
I really wanted to dislike Felisin, but she really is a strong character molded by her experiences. Heboric was a great foil to her harshness,&Baudin's death really shook me. The narrative is phenomenal, and I really grew to love Duiker, although I don't think he'll find peace in death for long. I think Kalam made the wrong decision in not killing Laseen, and I sobbed at Coltaine's death (and possible rebirth!?) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I normally don't have a problem reading books out of order. Seriously regretting it this time. The world is so detailed and alien with no explanation. On the one hand, not having an author hit me over the head with explanations is nice. On the other hand, I'm so lost. 😳😂
