I keep hearing about this book and how it‘s a must read. My awesome gym (owned by an amazing woman) started a little library and I was so excited for this to be my first read. Break out the highlighters, pens and journals because this book is filled with information on living a better and healthier life.

I recently watched Brown‘s Netflix special which inspired me to pick up Daring Greatly. I do believe in putting your creative self out there. I got in the arena and wrote a book and made a documentary film because I believed in telling the Chasing Portraits story. But reading Brown is helpful for seeing my shortcomings (I‘m super hard on myself and need to learn a better way around shame.).

So here are my very different picks for this go round. One is nonfiction and the other is poetry. Also interested in possible doing Aurora Rising if either of you like that choice. Ashley_Nicoletto @KatieB I‘ve read a few of them, but not all. I started by downloading The Power of Vulnerability on audiobook. It‘s based on her Ted talk and really gave me an idea of what she was all about. It was fantastic and she narrates it. I also really enjoyed Braving the Wilderness. 3mo

The discussion on the “culture of scarcity” in the book and the feeling of “never being ______ enough” (skinny, rich, smart, etc....) inspired me to stitch up this quick little piece and send it off to my daughter in college. When I saw this quote, it resonated with me. I have worn my fatigue as a badge of honor rather than recognize it as a call for self-care. I laughed when I told friends that tired was just my new normal. I think I‘ll work to redefine brave and strong to mean taking care of myself well & kindly. Today: yoga, tea with honey, and a book before bed.

Also I should probably bump Brene Brown up to the top of my tbr.

Nute This is so true. I‘m recalling a conversation with my mother where we were trying to out-talk each other about which one of us averaged the least amount of sleep per day while we have been caring for my father who has been ill. The less sleep the more you must be doing as a caregiver. Weird, right? 7mo
whatsthEStorey @Nute it is, but I‘ve done the exact same thing when caring for my mother in law, as though my exhaustion proved my love. And I hear similar conversations among my friends and coworkers. I have yet to hear men join in the discussion, though. It is definitely a societal thing! 7mo

I love Brene. I am getting my masters in social work, and she is a licensed clinical social worker, so we think kind of similarly about things. Brene is a researcher, and she researches things that maybe we don't think about as needing more research. This book is all about needing to be more vulnerable, and how important vulnerability is for our relationships and for our success. I listened to this on #audiobook via #scribd

Inspiring book that invites good self reflection. I listened to this one, while doing a difficult trail race, which was perfect for the message of being worthy and letting go of keeping up with others. The parenting chapter was good and can be summarized by: “Be the adult you want your children to become.”

Finally breaking my book slump, yay for #24in48! I liked this a lot but think I actually liked Rising Strong better. It‘s more similar than I thought it would be. And the parenting stuff was just *yawn* for me (sorry, parents!). Other than that, definitely some useful things for my (HR) job.
