I now understand why Louise Penny has such a legion of followers. I have adored books two and three in this series. The atmosphere is fantastic, the people are real, relatable and deep, the mysteries are good and the books are enjoyable to read - not bogged in details. I cannot wait to devour the next one!

This one by far had me the most on the edge of my seat! At times I wanted to scream to Gamache to know what we know. Really a great page turner. If you have any hesitation about Louise Penny being an amazing writer let me assure you, you will NOT be disappointed! Time and time again she delivers!

Crazeedi I adored every one!! Enjoy! 5mo

This series is growing on me. The #audiobook is nicely read and makes for good bedtime listening. The town of Three Pines reminds me a bit of the town where I live, minus the murders! 😆 #ReadingAroundTheWorld #Canada

I am still undecided about this series. So many people have encouraged me to read at least until the fourth book, because they say that is when the books really take off. I like Inspector Gamache and the setting, but I find the plots predictable and the residents of Three Pines one dimensional. Do I continue?

ShyBookOwl Personally, I don't think it should take 4 books to get going 🤷🏽‍♀️ life's too short for books you don't LOVE 6mo
JamieArc If you aren‘t in love with the characters or setting enough now, you probably won‘t be. I love this series, but I never read them for the storyline. 6mo

I‘m enjoying slowly reading through this series. This is number 3, and I continue to love Inspector Gamache and the village of Three Pines. There are some strange elements and weird writing occasionally but I still find it cozy and entertaining. Interesting to get more backstory on Gamache and the scandal at the Surete as well. And I especially love all the descriptions of the food! I hear that the series gets better after #4, so we‘ll see!

Just finished another installment of the Inspector Gamache/Three Pines series and enjoyed. I love the setting and characters so much that they make up for some of the plot points or murders I don‘t get into. Even better than relaxing at home with Radar right now is the fact that we closed early early due to nasty weather and I have tomorrow off. Lots of reading ahead!

Book number 3 in the Inspector Gamache series did not disappoint. I binge read most of it today, in bed, in my pyjamas. I love the way Louise Penny gave readers some insight into Inspector Gamache‘s past. And I always look forward to visiting the little town of a Three Pines and it‘s quirky inhabitants. Another thumbs up for Louise Penny‘s perfect cozy mystery series.👍👍👍. Off to bed I go. Night everyone😴

This my favorite Gamache mystery yet. So many threads come together not only in Three Pines but also in Gamache‘s past & present as the repercussions of his integrity in the Arnolt case come to rest closer to home & heart than he ever expected. I love how this story highlights the near enemy in so many ways-it will be a theme I will be on the lookout for much more. & the characters again are so wonderfully captured-they make this series.

I‘m officially calling it quits on these 2 books. I‘m such a mood reader and neither of these books fit my current mood.

Tagged book - I don‘t feel like reading a cozy mystery that‘s heavily focused on corrupt cops, which is what this one is. I‘m also so awful at reading and continuing series.

Prey of Gods - this book is just weird. Too weird for me. I‘m just not interested in reading it.

I‘m afraid to pick up another book in case I judge it

Reviewsbylola I bailed on the latter because yeah, just too weird for me! 1y

I‘m hooked on this series. Is it possible to be frightened to death or was it murder? Or terror the murder weapon? This Chief Inspector Armand Gamache dilemma. He also must contend with savage lies published about his family; revenge for doing the right thing in a much earlier case. 4/5 🌟

Tamra It is fun! 1y
CherylRussell @Tamra Fun and addictive. 🙂 1y

Sarah Wineman of the LATimes wrote, “The temptation is to scarf LP‘s books like potato chips but it‘s ever wise to savor each bite...” Sums up my feelings exactly. I force myself to slow down and jot notes attempting to figure out “who did it,” along with many other things her writing makes me ponder. She‘s getting to be my fav author.

The way Penny delves into the human psyche in this one was really compelling, especially with the idea of the 'near enemy.' That there are emotions that look the same but are in fact opposites, one healthy, the other twisted. The 'enemy' being attachment masquerading as love; pity as compassion; and indifference as equanimity. Another great mystery executed brilliantly with multiple plot lines that mirrored each other and gave the story depth.

This was good! At times I thought it was a little too much magical thinking for me—but the denouement was extremely satisfying. Not so much the murder mystery but the mystery surrounding the detectives, which has been a thread throughout the series.
