Started my first ever audiobook! Really excited to listen to this with my partner. 💖🌍
It was a little scary at times, sure, and very interesting, but most of the time I found it just plain funny. Watney was a fantastic narrator, and had me laughing out loud on several occasions. He‘s so likeable that Australian scientists have actually – like, in real life – named a new species of bush tomato after him (Solanum Watneyi). I‘m not even kidding. I did not think I was going to enjoy this book as much as I did! I picked it up on a whim and demolished it in under 2 days! Highly Recommended 4.5⭐

Started this audiobook today whilst doing some housework! Very much enjoying it! #whatiread #agirlwhoreads #booksoflitsy #booksareforever #mybooks #books #readingisfreedom #readabook #booklover #bibliophile #wordnerd #fullshelves #reader #reading #follow #followme #library
What‘s your favorite first line of a book? This is definitely up there for me. I really enjoyed this book. I wasn‘t to sure picking it up, but was pleasantly surprised. If you‘re on the fence about reading it. I recommend giving it a try. At least read the first like. 😂
I‘m desperate to finish this, truly I am, but for the first time in probably 6 months I picked up my knitting tonight. So instead of reading, I am knitting a lace shawl and watching Real Detective. But I‘ll get to The Martian, I swear. I love the movie so much that there is no way I can read Mark Watney and not hear Matt Damon 🥔
Picked these up at Goodwill today! 🤗
#datenight reading! Really enjoying hearing recaps of The Martian as the bf is reading it.
No! Guys, I ripped my book already. I'm only on page 9. It's not even a beat up old book I bought at a thift store. It's new, it's from Book of The Month and it's only ever been mine. And I betrayed it. 🙁
Well I guess it'll fit in on the shelf with all my beat up books.
I'm not a gentle reader.
I did it! I finished the Modern Mrs. Darcy challenge!
1. I‘m attending an American Indian Cultural Communications & Consultation course. Last night, the Skokomish Tribe generously invited us to their community center for a meal & to learn a little about their culture. It was an awesome. No photos, because respect. But they gave us these lovely mugs with one of their tribal designs on it.
2. Tagged. I‘m in the middle of Star Wars now & listening to Mary Poppins Opens the Door 👇🏻
I was pleasantly surprised how funny this book was. Overall, I thought the story was well-done. Good character development and good pacing makes a solid sci-fi novel. My biggest issue with the book was the over-explaining of the science and the in-depth math. Too much math!!!
First book of #maymadness!!! Week 1—book to movie adaptation
And 1st book for #MayScavengerHunt — (1) made into a movie & (2) over 300 pgs.
I started this book before, but didn‘t finish. I should‘ve waited till I finished the book, before I watched the movie. It‘s been a while so I chose to start from the beginning. I‘m glad I did.
The book is better than the movie in almost every way. The movies ending is much more detailed about what happens after the daring rescue attempt. It makes the books ending feel a little incomplete. I added my favorite quote to the cover. 😂
I saw the movie when it first came out, so a bit out of my usual order. But even so, this was really good and it had been long enough so that the details were fuzzy in my memory. I loved Watney's quirky sense of humor and how complicated science-y stuff is broken down into easily digestible lingo 👩🏼🚀🌌
Really good! I loved Watney‘s sense of humor. I wanted to finish my work so bad so I could sit down and read some more. The only thing I was disappointed about was the ending. Will tell in a comment because it‘s kind of a spoiler!
“Remember those old math questions you had in algebra class? Where water is entering a container at a certain rate and leaving at a different rate and you need to figure out when it‘ll be empty? Well, that concept is critical to the ‘Mark Watney doesn‘t die‘ project I‘m working on.” #Math #QuotsyMar19
I have been on Litsy so little recently, guys. I blame lots of work and a determination to finish some physical non-fiction books first, which has ironically meant that I often just pick up my phone instead of a book... Also, too much Netflix. Trying to get out of my bad habits!
First book of 2019. I loved this book; it keeps you on the edge of your seat, scared for Mark Watney and what he is going to endure next. However, Mark Watney‘s sense of humor in his situation keeps you laughing throughout the read. Definitely recommend!
