What If It's Us | Becky Albertalli, Adam Silvera

Bailedbailed

I'm bailing. There's nothing wrong with the writing, in fact I've loved other books written by these two, but this isn't doing it for me. YA is really hit or miss for me and I'm encountering more misses the older I get. 🤷‍♀️ #itsnotyouitsme #probably

Cathythoughts I‘m not a YA fan ... sometimes the only way to go is bail 3mo
bookandbedandtea @Cathythoughts Absolutely! I have so many books I want to read and limited reading time. If it's not working it's gotta go! 3mo

Bailedbailed

When you find yourself thinking, “I can‘t wait to finish this so I can move on to something else,” it‘s time to bail. Amber Tamblyn is a badass. No question about that. But this felt like a celebrity memoir regurgitating the events of the #metoo movement. What I wanted was a collection of insightful essays. Not to relive all the gross moments of the last few years, from a lens that was full of name dropping and unrelatable. #itsnotyouitsme

The Graveyard Book | Neil Gaiman
Bailedbailed

Ooooohhhhh... I'm sorry, y'all. Neil Gaiman just isn't for me. And life is too short for books I don't love.

I can appreciate his talent & can see why he is so beloved. Just not to my taste. #itsnotyouitsme

KathyWheeler As long as you understand why he‘s so beloved.😄 I totally get an author just not being for you. I have issues with Michael Chabon. 12mo
SaturnDoo I am so with you about Gaiman. I have read 3 books by him and I finally said no more!!! 12mo
CouronneDhiver Me either. I get it 12mo

Ancillary Justice | Ann Leckie
Bailedbailed

I just can‘t wrap my head around this incredible sci-fi storyline. It‘s unique and fascinating but too much right now. I‘ll come back to Leckie when my life isn‘t so demanding and try again. #itsnotyouitsme

Author is coming to my local library this summer. In preparation Library Director pick first in series for our monthly #booksandbrewsclub meeting. I wish I could say I loved it. I did really enjoy main character but all the blood and gore and accompanying forensic science discussion is just not for me.

“And now here she was, naked again.” 🙄

My god, Cassie is insufferable. I don‘t read many thrillers so I won‘t try to be overly critical. I was entertained, and I wasn‘t sure exactly where it was going, but I was left feeling fairly underwhelmed. Probably a case of it just not being my genre. #itsnotyouitsme

PS. I‘m over the blurry or falling women fad on thriller covers. Kindly knock it off.

AlaMich Is she saying it in a “I just don‘t know HOW this keeps happening, my clothes are always falling off” sort of way? Bc yeah, that=insufferable 2y
britt_brooke @AlaMich Oh, she knows. She just doesn‘t care. She drinks in excess and sleeps around. That‘s her MO and she‘s super annoying. (edited) 2y
RaimeyGallant I'm reading a thriller with great writing right now. Check my latest post. 2y

Cinfhen This was NOT a favorite of mine either. Cassie was super annoying and completely forgettable 2y
BookishMe I liked it cos it wasn't a usual whodunit. Instead, how both were going to get out of the mess. 2y
britt_brooke @RaimeyGallant The writing does make a huge difference. I feel like so many thrillers have really mediocre writing because they‘re just so focused on the plot. 2y
britt_brooke @BookishMe That‘s a good point! 2y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen I love when we agree! Cassie was just SO stupid. I wanted to slap her about every other page. Not one redeeming quality. 2y
Cinfhen You know it‘s a really crap book when we BOTH agree @britt_brooke 😀💚🙌🏻 2y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen 😆🙌🏻💚 2y
RaimeyGallant Agreed. 2y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve never found his recent books to measure up to 2y
britt_brooke @Reviewsbylola This is the only book of his I‘ve read, but maybe I‘ll check out Midwives sometime - thanks! 2y
KateFulfordAuthor If you like laugh-out-loud dialogue, a fast & twisty plot + strong female narrative, may I recommend my debut novel to you? And no blurry women on the cover either! Links to reviews and more are in my bio. With thanks, Kate. 1y

The Break | Marian Keyes

I'm taking a break from serious reading, but nearly 40 minutes in I haven't laughed once. Its quite depressing really as I've had more than my fair share of breakups! #itsnotyouitsme

#ReadingOnRoam

Andrew65 I‘ve got this one on my list for later this year. 2y
AceOnRoam @Andrew65 The narrators voice is smooth with a gorgeous accent. 2y
Andrew65 @AceOnRoam That‘s good too hear. 2y

Andrew65 @AceOnRoam Just checked it‘s the same narrator from The Woman Who Stole My Life, seem to remember her doing a good job with that book. (edited) 2y
AceOnRoam @Andrew65 haven't read any others by Marian Keyes yet, I will certainly look out for this narrator though! 2y
Andrew65 @AceOnRoam I like her Walsh Family Series. Not read them all but so far Anybody Out There and Rachel‘s Holiday are the best ones, good audiobooks but with a different narrator. 2y
AceOnRoam Thanks @Andrew65 I'll check them out 😊 2y

DNF-ing this for now. The writing is fine, the story is fine, everything is fine except that one of the main character‘s name had to be Rina. (Rina was my cat‘s name and I just can‘t right now). Probably one of the weirdest reasons ever for DNF-ing a book. So back to the library this one goes! #24in48 #itsnotyouitsme

Mine Till Midnight | Lisa Kleypas

Mehso-so

My first Lisa Kleypas. I can find nothing wrong with the writing style, it simply didn‘t grab me. Plus, the random supernatural element really threw me. It seems out of place. I couldn‘t care less about the Hathaway clan who will be featured in the rest of the series. I appreciate the fact that Kleypas doesn‘t use any weird or cutesy euphemisms in her intimate scenes, so I may try another series (much) later. #itsnotyouitsme #romantsy

LorieL I'd give one of her other series a try. I've enjoyed many of her books, but this one wasn't my favorite. 2y
CoverToCoverGirl I love this his author! Sorry that you didn‘t. 2y
DGRachel @LorieL @CoverToCoverGirl I know a lot of people love her, so I‘m assuming that it‘s just where my head is right now and is truly a it‘s me not the book/author situation. I‘ll probably try a different series another time as there were a couple of things that bothered me about this book, and bug me more the more I think about it, so I can‘t continue this series. 2y

theresidentromantic I think she's a so so author. I wouldn't waste your time with another of her books. There are other, much better regency romances like Jennifer Ashley or Mary Balogh 2y
DGRachel @theresidentromantic I‘ve never heard of Mary Balogh, but I have one of Jennifer Ashley‘s books on my TBR shelf. Thanks for the recommendation! 2y
theresidentromantic @DGRachel with Jennifer Ashley, I really love her regencies and I really hate her shifters books. Mary Balogh has a ton of books, but I would read her Survivor's Club books. So good. Especially on audio! Happy reading! ❤ 2y

😣 I was so excited when I got these two beauties from my library... but my brain just doesn‘t want to sink into a new world right now. So back to the library they go but I know I‘ll revisit them again! #itsnotyouitsme
