Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre | Charlotte Bront
Brontes novel about a shy, quiet governess who becomes a tutor in a great house and falls in love with its lonely and mysterious master is one of the great classics of English literature. Unique in its attention to the thoughts and feelings of a female protagonist, Jane Eyre was ahead of its time as a proto-feminist text. When it was published in 1847, however, Bronte was attacked by critics for what they felt was anti-Christian sentiment in her unflinching critique of the oppressions of Victorian society.

Merry Christmas!!!!
Christmas is by far my favorite holiday, as I kid I was trying to drag my parents downstairs from 6 am on...As a parent I am so incredibly grateful to be blessed with a kid who likes to sleep in...I feel like I already got a present this morning, time to drink my coffee, let my anxiety meds kick in and drown myself in my favorite book.

Jane Eyre is my favorite book, it‘s really only one of two classic books I‘ve ever been able to get all the way through and this poor well worn copy was brand new when I got it about 10 years ago and read it for the first time.
I‘ve decided I want to re-read it every Christmas.
What‘s your favorite book? Do you reread it often?

MsMelissa I‘m currently binge watching Enterprise on Netflix. I‘m a huge Star Trek fan, too, but this is my first time watching this series. It gets dissed a lot, but I‘m quite enjoying it. 14mo
twohectobooks @Book_Fiend_Melissa awesome! Enterprise is very flawed but it pretty quite good in the later seasons and I really loved Trip Tucker. 14mo
MsMelissa Archer will never win favourite captain for me (my loyalty lies with Captain Kirk), but Tucker has become one of my favourite Star Trek characters ever. He‘s awesome. I‘m halfway through season 3. 14mo

twohectobooks @Book_Fiend_Melissa I love him so much! I‘ve also been loving the Enterprise references in some of the newer Trek series. 14mo
MsMelissa I‘m not sure I‘ll watch Discovery until it‘s over. I‘m a fan of binge-watching 🤣. My favourites are TNG and DS9, and I love the recent movie reboots of the original show — the casting was spot on. I think I‘ll probably rewatch the original series after I finish Enterprise. 14mo
MsMelissa I‘ve finished Enterprise, except I refused to watch the very last episode! I already knew how it ended, and since I refuse to accept that they killed Trip off, I prefer to imagine my own ending after the end of Terra Prime. 13mo

There is nothing I can say of Jane Eyre that has not already been said many times by masses of adoring readers. I will just say as I feel.
I love so much about her character. How can you do anything but admire a woman who truly belongs to herself? Even in the face of intense love, and other times intense suffering. She held to herself, and had great respect for herself. Crazy this book was written in the 1800‘s. LOVE IT IMMENSELY 💕

I am enjoying this book so much. I‘m surprised. I don‘t want to put it down, though it will take me a bit to finish because it‘s long, and I keep looking up the words I don‘t know (sadly, there are many) I‘ve always pre-judged and shunned the classics as boring and pretentious. In Jane‘s own tongue however: “I dare say that with each turn of the page, I find myself quite enraptured with this tale”

Jari-chan I just read it in July for the first time and I'm still astonished by this book. Enjoy it! 1y

This may be the worst Twitter ratio I‘ve ever seen, and rightfully so. Not only is defending Rowling‘s bigotry a bad take, but erasing literal centuries of incredible female authors to do so?! Unfathomable.

i loved this book. i really enjoyed charlotte brontë character writing. i know a lot of people don‘t like Rochester but i thought he was eccentric and he made me laugh. i like him and jane together. this book had a handful of shocking parts (i didn‘t know the story before hand so i was very surprised!) i found this novel ahead of its time in a lot of ways and jane strangely relatable. i‘m excited to read more from the Brontë sisters?
