When confronted with things such as rodents, bugs, or predators, then yes, face-to-face, I‘m scared of them! The ironic thing is that while I‘m not afraid of horror movies and books, I AM afraid of the settings where those horrors take place—the woods (I think I would lose my MIND if I had to spend the night alone in the woods), basements and attics, cornfields (NOTHING good EVER happens there!), and creepy cemeteries! 😱

One favorite is when my husband and I were young newlyweds and, with a large group of friends, we‘d go hit the haunted house attractions. Back then (the eighties) these were not as popular as they are now, so those long lines didn‘t exist, and it only cost about four dollars to get in. We had the best time! So many creative scares, but usually always ending with that fan favorite, the masked guy with the chainsaw! Good times! 😂👹👻

Yay! I made top 2%!! But horror is my jam, which is why I couldn‘t pick just three books. 😁 Sorry, @dabbe ! Just FYI—A Short Stay in Hell is not traditional horror. It is a very unique story that will burrow in your head and stay there. One truly horrifying aspect of the story are the numbers (I hated math!) as you try to comprehend the staggering calculations of infinity. 👻👹🧛🏻‍♀️🧟‍♀️💀 #TLT #ThreeListThursday

I‘m reading one chapter a day of Martin Chuzzlewit with a group and it‘s awesome! It allows us to do a deep-dive analysis on each one, which highlights the literary elements of the story. I‘m re-listening (is that a word? 🤷‍♀️) to Diavola because I loved it the first time around and it is holding up! I‘m hoping to finish up The Terror, which has been super-creepy (ice horror freaks me out!), and possibly start the Grady Hendrix! 🤞

I love the unique history, culture, and diversity of Texas. Houston abounds with cultural attractions like the theater, symphony, and museums. The shops are amazing and abundant. The Houston medical center is world-renowned, a fact that I appreciate as I age! I also have learned over my own travels that we are a food destination, and deservedly so—the food is varied and scrumptious! The climate and scenery are terrible, though. 😂

Eggs I‘m a Texan too! But the winters are mild🤗 Thanks for playing! 2w
CindyMyLifeIsLit @eggs True! While I‘m okay with no snow or ice, I would enjoy having temperatures below 70 for more of the year. There have been winters where my coat remained untouched for the whole season. But that is SE Texas—I doubt I could say that if I lived in the DFW area or the Panhandle! 2w
Eggs “No coat” sounds about right for Houston! But for us, north of Austin, I‘ve worn winter gear plenty and I love it❣️ Except for 2021 when many across TX were without power for several days when it snowed a lot…were you affected by that? @CindyMyLifeIsLit 2w
CindyMyLifeIsLit @eggs Snowpocalypse? Oh, yeah, we felt it! Our “feels like” was 1 degree!! I never thought I‘d live to see that! 😂 My parents‘ pipes burst so they stayed with us. Our power was out for two days and it was 40 inside, but we had a gas fireplace and stove, so we were better off than many. My daughter was visiting from LA when it hit, so she was a little salty about suddenly finding herself in an ice-themed Survivor episode, but we all made it! 😂 2w

This was recommended to me by a member of my Facebook horror group and he was so right! It‘s only the first book in the series but I can tell I‘m going to love it. It‘s a dynamic crime mystery/thriller with a soupçon of the paranormal thrown in. Charlie Parker is a former police detective who has lost his wife and child in a gruesome murder (this is the very beginning, so no spoilers). His quest for justice takes him on a wild, mystifying ride!

I love how Jonathan Maberry builds complex worlds in his stories that cross over into other series, a la Stephen King. This series pulls in characters from his Rot and Ruin series, as well as his Joe Ledger books. It‘s also clearly the prequel to the Rot and Ruin series, providing the backstory for the genesis of the virus. It‘s unique and science-based, which I like. An action-packed, quasi-plausible zombie apocalypse! What‘s not to like? 🧟‍♀️
