I have checked off a few in #tbrbingo world! This Phryne Fisher story was set up with flashbacks of her time in Paris during WWI so I used it as a book set in Italy or France. It was a cute little mystery. Not the cleverest tie together at the end but still satisfying enough.

JazzFeathers Oh, l'm sorry to hear the ending is kind of weak. I've enjoyed it so far. Trying to finishing it tonight 6y

Closed Casket: The New Hercule Poirot Mystery | Agatha Christie, Sophie Hannah
post image
Pickpick

A little upside downside here... Hannah has done quite well to mimic Christie's Poirot character. The dialogue and actions from Poirot are familiar, even evolved perhaps. But, the plot was not the perfect combination of comfortable suspense and surprise that I turn to Christie for. One of the characters here even defends her own slightly clumsy mystery stories. So, I'm happy there are more Poirot novels, but there's a small crack in the universe.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ting-a-ling! To be fair I had started Timequake before I made this #tbrbingo card, so this was just finishing it up. But I had been dragging this book out longer in order to savor it. It's rare to know while you are finishing each chapter, rather than at the end of the book, that this one is worth slowing down. Easily a solid 5 stars.

Excellently engaging book that everyone should read. I came at this a little skeptical but was on almost every point completely enlightened on the often overlooked complications in the racial system of the United States. There was slight minimization that jailed people did in fact commit a crime, BUT the information presented here explains well (in a non confrontational way) why it's still an overwhelmingly unfair and oppressive system.
