mollyrotondo My edition‘s notes on this chapter talk about this book being an early example of the temperance novel. I love that this book explains the importance of understanding a family history of addiction and how it needs to be tempered in future generations in order to stop the cycle but is also very honest about how much to control this when raising a child since outright denial can lead to the same outcome of overindulgence. Really love her writing. 2w

This short book is a difficult read, if you take it seriously and really get introspective and honest with yourself. She frequently references how each of us, and the church as an institution, needs to die in order to become something better, like a seed must crack open in order to produce fruit. The basis of the American church, as an institution of colonialism and oppression, is hard to take for those who love it. But we need this book.

8little_paws @CocoReads I had to pay myself for the exam (my job reimbursed for only in person class after you passed all 4 sections and I didn't have the money to front the cost of that) Gleim got me to pass and it was the lowest cost option I could find. Passed all 4 on first try with them. 3y

8little_paws Well if you have any interest in moving to chicago, my last day at my current nonprofit job is in about 2 wks. It's director of finance for about $10M op budget and $4M assets. Having worked this long in nonprofit (10+ years) i'm considered an expert in the niche so there's no way i'm leaving now! 3y

CocoReads Her job payed for the study books and depending on which option you choose you may have enough left for more than one go round. She‘s using Becker which was the more expensive option so she had enough left to pay for each section once. After this next one, she has to start paying herself 3y
