I loved this book so much! I was amazed at how much of a story was told in only 270ish pages and all in letters! The hubs and I have a Netflix date tonight to watch the movie ❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars

marleed I followed up with the movie the day after finishing the book, as well. I did enjoy the movie but I preferred the book. The movie compiled a couple characters into one being and I wanted the individual characters! 3w
K.Wielechowski I LOVE the movie and have been meaning to read the book! 3w

I had another gum grafting surgery yesterday. The two most important things to know ahead of time:
1. Where are the drugs?
2. Which audiobook that I‘ve already listened to will I put on?
I don‘t remember a thing, but it‘s important to listen to old friends. Everything went well. 🤞 that I don‘t have to do this again for a very long time! Sometimes genes really suck.

This was a lovely post-world war II historical fiction story about the importance of human connection that I know I‘m far, far behind the times on reading. I enjoyed the story and the characters but I have to say, the epistolary format really prevented me from feeling sucked into the story. Dare I admit to preferring the recent movie version? I might owe myself a rewatch after finally reading the book.

rubyslippersreads I found that I enjoyed the book more when I reread it after seeing the movie. 😊 2mo

This was entirely done in letters from one character to the next, and I'm sad to say I was underwhelmed. All of the characters seemed to have the same personality and blend together. A lot of details were obviously thrown in for the reader's sake, too, so it was awkward reading them trying to be passed off as something that would have been written in a letter. The premise and context were good, but the execution was a little disappointing.

ImperfectCJ So glad to know that someone else was underwhelmed by this one, too. 2mo
rkeo I think it would've been more charming as an actual book, with maybe letter chapters interspersed to get a more personal feel. 2mo

What took me so long? I finished this delightful treat last night. What a lovely story that is told entirely through a series of letters between a full cast of characters. I was leery of this format prior to reading the book which is what kept me from starting the book sooner. If you have the same apprehension, let it go. The story flows beautifully! All in all, I feel like I‘ve met a new friend... a friend that I will visit again.

I loved this book so much. I knew I would after enjoying the movie as much as I did. Definitely in my top favorites of the year so far. It‘s completely written in letter form but I like getting the different perspectives and personalities of each character. I took this picture when I found my book holder thing. Ariel, as usual, asleep on my bed. She seemed sad this morning. I think she can sense what happened to our other cat. 😢

If you want a book to cuddle up to, then read this book. Set in the island of Guernsey, the novel fooled the life of 32-year-old Juliet who visits Guernsey and falls in love with Dawsey. Set in 1946, this epistolary novel also discusses the German occupation of Guernsey, the various inhabitants of the Society and the novel, the expectations of a single woman author, and the different ravages of the war. I also liked the Netflix adaptation.

Absolutely loved the intermingling of humor, love, tragedy, and resolve. Historically accurate with suspense sprinkled in. Following a journalist in occupied England, she travels to Guersney Island where the residents leave her feeling loved, welcome, spurned and hated. The unraveling of the stories of the residents, along with the obvious heartache leaves you feeling as though you yourself have been transported back to that time.

I had high hopes for this book. It was ok, but I think it would have been more interesting if it had focused more on the occupation during WWII. I found the story being told by letters a little bit confusing and had to keep checking who was writing to whom. The bits which did cover the war were interesting.

So this book sat upon my TBR for long enough that it duplicated itself as a glaring challenge for me to save it from this precarious stack and savor its words in the deep cavernous nooks of my mind. It was sweet, funny, horrific, heartbreaking, and wonderful. It is a beautiful tribute to those who live through war regardless of side and what the human spirit must do to normalize experiences.

What a delightful book! Though I‘m not much of a fan of the epistolary novels, this one managed to captivate me from the very beginning with its charming characters and its obvious love for books. But at its heart, it‘s a story of pure humanity and how sometimes the smallest acts of kindness make the greatest of impact. And I think more than anything, it is Elizabeth‘s story that will stay with me. A great read! 📚

What a surprise, the book is better than the movie! 🙂 I watched the Netflix version (which is also good) and then read the book. The book is written entirely in the format of letters between two people (multiple combinations of different people), which I really liked. It also has a significant character that the movie didn‘t have. The story is endearing and sweet and totally makes me want to visit Guernsey. Fantastic historical fiction.

Watched the #adaptation with my mom yesterday, after we both read the novel. It was okay, though they shortened the ending. Also the "bad guy" was super likable in the film, which made it a little weird. The book definately was more #bookish, but adapting an epistolary novel on screen ain't too easy, so I don't blame them. Additional plus: michiel huisman ??

Picked this movie still, because I love Matthew Goode 😍
