Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World
Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World | Benjamin Alire Saenz
The highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, multiple award-winning novel Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is an achingly romantic, tender tale sure to captivate fans of Adam Silvera and Mary H.K. Choi. In Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, two boys in a border town fell in love. Now, they must discover what it means to stay in love and build a relationship in a world that seems to challenge their very existence. Ari has spent all of high school burying who he really is, staying silent and invisible. He expected his senior year to be the same. But something in him cracked open when he fell in love with Dante, and he can't go back. Suddenly he finds himself reaching out to new friends, standing up to bullies of all kinds, and making his voice heard. And, always, there is Dante, dreamy, witty Dante, who can get on Ari's nerves and fill him with desire all at once. The boys are determined to forge a path for themselves in a world that doesn't understand them. But when Ari is faced with a shocking loss, he'll have to fight like never before to create a life that is truthfully, joyfully his own.

Avoiding the monstrosity that is 'Mount Unmatched Socks' with a viable excuse--- my book is due tomorrow.

I reread the first book because I forgot the emotions right at the end and since this title literally picks up where the other stops I knew I needed to read them in tandem. Both take place in the 80s but the decades don't erase the intolerance of so many. The complete acceptance of both Aristotle and Dante a parents is amazing. 5⭐

fredamans I'm reading this one now and was immediately pulled back into Ari and Dante's love story! 😊 5d

I was really enjoying this. However, now I‘m feeling conflicted. The first 150 pages were good, and now, I don‘t know if I want to finish this book… 🤷‍♀️😔

If I could describe this book in one word, that word would be, “hopeful.“

Okay so.....The first half of this book is EVERYTHING. We are picking up where Ari and Dante left off and we get to see some beautiful moments between the two of them. And that is why I was so excited about this book, to see their relationship unfurl....and then that's not really what this book ended up being about. But it was still beautifully written I just wanted to see more Ari & Dante, I mean who wouldn't 😁?

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2

This is possibly going to be my Most Disappointing book of the year. There is just so much unrealised potential, repetition, telling-not-showing. Honestly tedious. I was hoping for some sort of relationship development, character development, them getting involved in AIDS activism... SOMETHING.

GondorGirl Oh no! I was really looking forward to this one... 1mo
Lauredhel @GondorGirl same!! I mean, it's possible you will like it a lot more than I did? But I guess I suggest not going in with high expectations. 1mo
GondorGirl @Lauredhel Yeah... I mean, I already bought a copy, so I guess I read it... but I'm not hopeful. 1mo

I disliked this & need to rant out my disappointment. I found it irritating, unrealistic, repetitive, facile, poorly written & cheesy. Yes, I get Ari wanted to kiss Dante but I didn't get much out of it after reading it for the 147th time. Someone/everyone cried every 7th line. Yet at the moment of the only genuine emotional event everyone acts weirdly flippant! Ari said/wrote/felt the same few things over & over & OVER again!!! More ⬇️⬇️⬇️

readingjedi All the finger combing of hair got annoying. Everyone is amazing & everyone loves one another - really?! There's no conflict whatsoever - trite, tortured teen angst doesn't count! Sorry, but no parents are that amazing all the time. Dialogue was cheesy/preachy. More ⬇️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 1mo
readingjedi Ari and Dante's characters were inconsistent - they went from seemingly having the emotional maturity/social sophistication of 10 year olds to having the experience & wisdom of someone 3 times their age! The short sentences/chapter seemed gimmicky/got tedious. It was all just a bit overwrought yet kinda shallow at the same time. More ⬇️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 1mo
readingjedi I felt there was an awful lot of 'telling' & not much convincing 'showing'. I have to say I found it childish and weak. So disappointed as I adored the first one. What's changed? Is it me? I've had my rant & will now shut up! 1mo

LiteraryinLawrence Oh NO! I am so sorry the sequel was such a disappointment! I have been wanting to read this because, like you, I loved the first one. I think I still will, but I‘ll be very curious whether I‘ll have the same impression. All of those things would really bother me too. 😬 1mo
Lindy Wow! Good rant. 🏆 1mo
TrishB @Lindy agree 😁 1mo
SilverShanica I‘ve heard much the same from others. It‘s been quite a few years since the first one came out, and because of the current political climate, I suspect that this was pushed & rushed in order to get it out rather than letting the author work it out naturally. 1mo

Just finished this one. I have it as a So-So currently but I really think it could be a Pan. I'm disappointed and kinda confused. I mean, I loved the first one - gave it a whopping 90% rating. This one....I think, I'm not sure really, but maybe....I hated it.

Full review to follow.

This is the sequel to the teen novel “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe“, which I loved. This one picks up on the story featuring high school senior boys in love, but I did find the first part of the book rather slow and repetitive. Thankfully midway through the book the story picks up and I then enjoyed it. I really loved the characters in this series and would love to see it made into a movie. I give it 3.5/5.

Finished this one today. Chiming in with everyone else who wanted an epilogue. Honestly even if we got one I still would have wanted more. I could never get tired of reading about these boys. Can we also talk about this amazing accidental picture?! I was going for the cover when it opened to the first page and my screenshot caught the transition. Couldn‘t have done on purpose but wow. My only complaint is I wanted an Epilogue. (Better yet would be another book.) To see the life Ari and Dante make for themselves. Because in my mind they're still happily together all these years later.

@Eggs 1. No. I‘ve been tempted but I‘m an eclectic reader and picky. 2. I use all the things! (For book recs, of course😜). Actually, I use some for work like Twitter and Pinterest, and some for chonky kitties like FB. Insta and TikTok are my book media. 3. To finally have in my hands Aristotle and Dante book 2. I‘m melting!

Anyone else excited to dive into this one😉? What are your thoughts?

Got an ARC of this anticipated sequel! Once again Aristotle and Dante navigate their relationship as a new gay couple as they deal with homophobia, cultural machismo, and the looming presence of AIDS/HIV in their border town. "Love took you out of exile and carried you to a country called Belonging."

Aristotle & Dante remain, fans will be unsurprised to learn, just the absolute best. THE. BEST. This book is definitely worth the wait & clocking in at over 500 pages it gives readers some serious quality time with these two characters as they learn more about themselves & each other as their relationship develops. Throw in new friendships, high school, families—the good, bad, & even not so good—and you have a wonderful story. On sale 10/12/21.

Librariana What!? What!!?!! I had been wondering when we'd get the follow-up since he'd been kind of vague about a date, but had NO idea it'd be this year! Oh boy, awesome news!! Thank you 😊 7mo
