This was ok. I liked the relationship between the girls, but wasn‘t crazy about the deus ex machina resolution to the plot.

Wow. What a book. Quite a short one but packed full of adventure, great characters and suspense. Fab little read 🐻🐾🥾
This was a terrifying read. It completely had me on the edge of my seat. It is a true heart racing read. I recommend it for anyone looking for a good scary read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My favourite horror trope is ‘lost in the woods‘ so it probably goes without saying that I was utterly gripped by this tale of two best friends on an ill-fated hike.

This week I finished one book but am in the middle of two books. It was kind of a chaotic week, so didn't do as well as I wanted to. @BookwormAHN
Got this in my Google photo memories today from 2 years ago. I remember liking it! 🍂❤️

Best friends Neena and Josie spent high school as outsiders, but at least they had each other. Now, with college and a two-thousand-mile separation looming on the horizon, they have one last chance to be together—a three-day hike deep into the woods of the Pisgah National Forest.

Neena cut the engine, and the speakers went silent. Mid-lyric. The trail was straight ahead, but her gaze could only follow it to its first bend. The overhanging forest, a drab and washed-out green that presaged the end of summer, obscured the rest of the path.

Friends Neena & Josie decide to go on a 3 day hiking & camping trip before Neena moves to California for university. Borrowing their gear from Josie's older brother & his girlfriend, the girls head out for the Blue Ridge mountains, but shortly after starting their trip, they realise that they are out of their depth. They also realise that their friendship is on the point of disintegration as they snap & snipe their way over the first day. (Cont)
If I think about this as a horror movie where two girls behave stupidly, run into stereotypical killers, with an unbelievable ending, I can say that I liked it enough. I almost DNFed early on though because it‘s slow to get going and maybe it was my mood but I found the two friends annoying. #ReadSpooky2023 #Hunted
The next row in my #readinglogsnake is for The Woods Are Always Watching by Stephanie Perkins. Black is the perfect color for horror, imo This book was a Christmas gift from my wonderful sister, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 4/5 ⭐️ #BooksAndCrafts #ARRCReads

Meh. The first half of the book was teenage angst. The second half was gory and unbelievable. The ending was not satisfying.
Very relatable camping description! Well, to one point at least. This was pretty good, got me in the mood for horror/mystery so imma ride this wave now! I‘m excited!
Quick, creepy read, but the last 25% lets it down. The build up was good, full of well balanced tension. But then it turned towards predictable, overdone, and started bordering on torture-porn for a few scenes.
Stephanie Perkins writes books that make you want to grab the popcorn because they are like 80s horror movies. Two young women go on a hiking trip before they separate for college and something BAD happens in those woods 😳
Two besties are faced with the pending demise of their codependent friendship as college approaches & decide to go camping w/no experience. Their weekend goes from bad to worse to downright horrific. I'm a huge fan of YA horror & anything scary that takes place in the woods, so I did ultimately enjoy this book, but if you're expecting the same strength of plot as Perkins' previous book, you might be disappointed- failed to meet its full potential.
This was on my #MustReads2022 list (which is still in the works honestly). While I enjoyed this, it wasn't particularly a standout. There's no shocking twist, it's mainly all suspense. A popcorn thriller as they say, but it's no J.D. Barker. 🤷♀️

“A flat clank issued from the shelter. Something metal hit something else metal, and moving shadows made scruffling noises. From the murky darkness of the campsite‘s edge, they watched a large and blundering creature emerge into the firelight.”
“The girls returned to their own belongings. In their absence, a few pine needles had fallen upon Neena‘s pack.”
I‘m afraid of everything - strange men, the woods, wild animals, the dark. This book tapped into all of that. It‘s a slow start then explodes with action and I couldn‘t put it down. It‘s a bit outlandish, but that was almost a form of comic relief.
Enjoyed this one! If you like slasher thrillers, you‘ll like this one. 🎃📚 #teamslaughter #scarathlon2021 @Clwojick
Next up - spending the evening reading with my cuddle buddy!😄📖🐕🎃 #teamslaughter #scarathlon2021 @Clwojick
I woke up early yesterday, so I got lots of reading in, and then read before conking out for sleep. I finished Perfect Remains and started my reread of The Woods Are Always Watching for book club, which I managed to finish before bed, so I started Be My Ghost.

I see this one gets some hate, but for my money, it was great. It was a quick read, but still managed to tap into some pretty real fears many of us have about being in the woods and off the grid, and show some character growth. Sure, the girls could be petty with one another, but who hasn't been there in their teens? PICK.
I wish it had been a bit longer (with a more drawn out ending) but loved the creepy vibes it gave me.

Just watched There's Someone Inside Your House last night and realized this morning that it was based on a book. I'm always on the hunt for women writing horror, so I thought I'd check out one of the author's other books for Spooktober 🎃🕸
The ending of this book made me exclaim out loud "Really! OMG! Just, really?" You have to read it because the ending is just dumpster fire ridiculous. The first half of the book is like ho-hum and the last half is like YA meets Deliverance written by a middle school boy drinking too much Red Bull. I loved to hate it.
3.5🌟 I found this book creepy as I am not an outdoorsy person and camping scares and annoys me. So YMMV. The bulk of the story is camping and hiking, where so much goes wrong before anything that‘s more ‘horror story‘ actually happens. When it does get to the horror, it is such a small part of the story.
What really irked me was the abrupt ending, and the length. This book was short! It felt like a lot of set up that didn‘t totally pay off.
This book sucked. There is no other way to put it. Its suppose to be about 2 best friends, they just hurtled each other with insults the entire time. The first 130 pages is all about hiking and camping. I was like come on, get to it!! Then it finally did and how unrealistic!? I didn't believe a single thing that happened. And the moral of the story was that every man was out to get women? What? Not only is that stupid its pretentious. 0 stars.
