Took me a while to get into the story the first time I listened, but I did eventually get sucked it, and then had to listen again from the beginning to catch what i missed the first time around. Good story, but I wanted more of an epilogue.

I loved this book. It was so magical, whimsical, and beautifully written. This world moves too fast sometimes and this book really reminds us all to slow down and smell the roses. 5/5
As someone who loves scents that evoke memories or happy places, I really wanted to like this book, but it fell flat for me. The storyline was all over the place. That being said, I really liked the characters.
The beginning had a lush fairytale feel to it. The island and its scents were lovingly described in detail but there was a sense of foreboding throughout the text. There is a real perception of anger and disappointment as Emmeline begins to learn the many secrets her father kept from her. The bullying she endures and the love she finds as she sets out to find her mother and herself is noteworthy but feels a bit forced. Overall a good read. 3+⭐️s.
I really enjoyed The Scent Keeper , it had two things I love -scents and islands, the story is compelling and full of heart. It was a “librarian favorite” in my library, and it‘s now one of my favorites too.
The first half of this book is magical and very much like a fairytale. One of my college professors always talked about multisensory writing, and this novel pays special attention to scents, unsurprisingly. The second half of the book is good, too, it just doesn‘t hold the intrigue of the first, but that may have been the artist‘s intention, as we pay less attention to smells for survival than our predecessors. Worth your time to read, overall.
I loved this one @robinb - thank you so much for sending it to me!
I was a bit worried at first; Emmeline lives on an island with only her father, in a cabin full of mysterious scents stored in glass bottles, and a machine that makes them. It seemed like it was going to be fantasy (what other explanation could there be?!) but it turned out not to be….
A lovely book to escape with!
A very unique book that starts out a little strange but then becomes a beautiful story about finding your true self and what makes you happy!
Book 104 I listened to The Scent Keeper, a story of a girl who lives on a remote island with her dad and a machine that makes scents. It quickly becomes more approachable than it sounds. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
A story revolving around scents - beautifully told world of fragrance. Weird, but lyrical; interesting, but interactions between the characters were mostly frustrating. The ending felt odd...
This was a fast, entertaining book, but not one I‘ll think much about now when it‘s done.
4 stars.
The Scent Keeper
This was a unique story with lots of excellent scent descriptions! It starts with a little girl & her dad living alone on an island, surviving on what the island can provide & what the occasional mermaid brings them. As she gets older she realizes her dad has secrets, & searches for the truth.
I thought so many parts were going to be predictable, but the author took care to set this story apart from others.

A beautiful novel, about the power of our experiences, to shape us into the people we are with the unique skills we often take for granted.

Quite a story. A coming of age tale unlike any I have read before. So good I recommended for my book club!
I adored this book! Each page melted into my heart and gave words to the feeling of homesickness I so often feel. I'm from a tiny island up by the Canadian border and often feel the romantic pull to be by the ocean. The chaos of large cities can be exciting but it can also feel toxic to me. I'm a water baby and I miss the solitude island life often brings.
This book was so beautifully and delicately written. I recommend it to everyone!
I didn't get why this had such high reviews. I was BORED! I thought, "oh cool a family on an island!" But that didn't last long. Then the rest is a bunch of boo-hockey.
My library holds have been coming in fast and furious. I wasn‘t sure if I was going to continue this when I started it this morning - thankfully it picked up quickly. I‘ll probably finish this today - I need to know how this ends!

Wow! Fantastic book. I read it two days, which is unusual for me. It was beautifully written, and so captivating. I had forgotten what it was about when I started it, so it felt like I was being taken along for an incredible unknown journey.
I'm low key obsessed with scents. Almost all of my strongest memories are accompanied by a smell that makes me feel nostalgic, sad, love, loss. So all of that rambling to say that I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH! It got me right in the senses and I just couldn't breathe it in fast enough. With notes of bergamot, cardamom, and the sea, this book was completely captivating start to finish. Loved it, loved it, loved it 🥰
Today‘s walk took me past the Darwin Martin House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. #litsywalkers #currentlyreading “We are the unwitting carriers of our parents‘ secrets, the ripples made by stones we never saw thrown.” #firstlinefridays
Fans of Where the Crawdad Sings and The Great Alone this is your book. I almost wish the main female characters from each could jump into each other‘s worlds and have a conversation 😂😂
⭐⭐⭐⭐ A magical, sensory read full of mystery and sadness.
Congratulations @squirrelbrain on your Litsy milestones! Thanks for hosting a giveaway 😊
Scrolling through Goodreads, I think my favorite book so far this year is The Scent Keeper. I love the author‘s voice, she addresses deep emotions so well. Also the island in the story sounds so wonderful to me.
I‘m not sure if the final book in Philip Pullman‘s most recent trilogy is due out this fall, but I‘m assuming it is, and I can‘t wait for it.
What a beautiful book. Emmeline was raised on an island by her father. She grew up learning to read scents like others read words.
My local library has a cool new program on Facebook. Wednesday afternoons you comment the title of a book that you like and they will give you a recommendation based on that book. This was their pick for Where The Crawdads Sing.
This week is #BoutofBooks 28! I'm starting off with a (virtual) book club read, THE SCENT KEEPER. I'm only a couple chapters in, but enjoying it so far! 📚

Another Reece pick that I have enjoyed! I have to say she knows how to pick them. I liked this book. I loved how the scents were described and how they told a story. It made me a remember an english assignment in high school where the teacher talked about smelling something and writing a story about what it made you think of. For example, Vick‘s vapor rub, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon, fall leaves..etc. I love how the author tells a story
Had a great reading month this April! Completed several reading challenges, good mix of romance, contemporary fiction and non fiction. Thoroughly enjoyed almost all of them.

Not usually one for books with lengthy details and descriptions, but this was beautiful.
Wrapping up for the month of April, I was able to get through 14 books! (Thank you quarantine!)
I really enjoyed this one. Another Reese Witherspoon selection. It was interesting to consider scents in relation to memory and emotion. I am going to say 3.5 stars 😊
I truly love her writing. Just beautiful every time. I got whisked away in this story and loved every step of Emmeline's journey. My only complaint is how abrupt the ending was. #greatread ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yep. Same. 😂 Just getting through the days...
So glad for good books!! And these two. 🐶🐶❤️
A novel that will not only tantalize every smell imaginable, but will capture your heart in young Emmaline's story of grief, uncertainty, and strength to discover where she came from, make sense of the world she's been thrusted in and decide what her future should look like. Only her nose will unfold the answers. Love this author❤️
New audiobook for today. So far it's interesting!
Such an unusual book. I‘ve truly never read so much about how smells can affect people before. While it‘s fiction, it does raise an interest about how smells are used to influence one‘s purchasing habits. A lovely story of love found, love lost, and love found again. #reesewitherspoonbookclub #hellosunshinebookclub
