The book no one can stop talking about . . . In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shiningCapitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to sendone boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forcedto represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaningto, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and lifeagainst love. New York Times bestselling author Suzanne Collins delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance,in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

I think the Hunger Games movie was one of the more successful first-person book narration to third-person movie narration I've seen. Using Caesar Flickerman and the other tv announcers to give the background on things like tracker jackers instead of Katniss telling the audience worked really well.

I recently re-read this book and I have to say, it still holds up. This was a very inspiring and exciting book back in High School and though as an adult I can see that this was written for a young adult audience and is at times unrealistic, I still found it very entertaining and intriguing. There‘s definitely a reason this series was so popular. #challenge

This is my second reading of the book and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. It‘s such a fast pace book and each chapter is a cliffhanger. I read it in less then a week, because you don‘t want to put it down. It does make you think about the parallels of Panem and our current world too. We discuss all that on the Book Interrupted podcast. Check out both episodes here: https://open.spotify.com/show/7a4yoktPnQm73bqX6dZ4Fd I recommend it!

Just got past a few moments in the game in which game makers absolutely torture the tributes. These are so brutal. Been a while since I read and I am shocked all over again at the horror.

I‘ve watched the movies for years and never read the books until now. To be honest, the film took liberties with the characters, Katniss, especially but both were great in their own way. On to Catching Fire!

Bklover This was such a fun series to read! 1y

This book is one of my favorites. I think for older grades it could be interesting to read and discuss different topics. For example they may analyze the book to try and determine why Panem was created. You could also discuss cause and effect, as well as many other lessons.

Published 2008. This is set in a dystopian world. The country has been split into 13 districts. Twelve districts are to send one boy and girl each year to fight to the death in something called the Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen embarks on a journey through these games, fighting to survive, fighting to get back at the Capitol, and fighting to love.

I read this to my son, admittedly I‘ve already seen the movies bc I‘m not much for YA. I enjoyed it, though and loved how captivated he was in certain spots. And even though I knew what was going to happen, I still teared up.

People aren‘t kidding when they say this is a book that you literally CANNOT put down. The Hunger Games pulled me into its world and I was captivated from beginning to end. I can‘t believe I hadn‘t read it sooner and I urge you to do so if you haven‘t already.

I‘m reading this to my 10 yo son, and I‘m surprised to say it‘s better than I expected! I‘d heard mixed reviews and am not a huge fan of YA. We‘re not yet halfway, but are cruising right along and I‘m enjoying it. He even stops the Lego battles to listen (he always has battles when I read to him yet remembers every word).

#litsysummercamp Day 4

My favorite camp activity as a kid was archery. The precision, patience, and focus needed have always appealed to my perfectionist tendencies, and it‘s just plain fun! Would love to spend my day in the quiet of the forest and a bow (and NOT in a Hunger Games arena).

In other news, I‘m halfway finished with my #litsysummercampreadathon goal since I finished The Thorn Birds last night. 😍

This New York Times best seller SF novel would be best for 5-6th grade and could be used as an author study. Suzzane COllins has had a very successful career and has had the privilege of her books becoming major films. https://www.readingrockets.org/resources #UCFLAE3414SP21

Emiranda UDL 7.2 is used as learning about the author makes this book more relevant and allows for students to have a deeper connection with the book. EL 32 can be used if the students are placed in groups for their author study. 3y
DrSpalding Well not appropriate for elementary age students, this series is excellent for middle or high school students. This would be an excellent option for book clubs. Be sure to expand on your summaries a bit more. 3y

There‘s an unexpected layer to this Battle Royale — a sad marriage on the battlefield. Katniss dresses Peeta‘s wounds, does all the hunting, feigns love, and waits around for an end to her misery. The Hunger Games audience surprisingly responds not to kills but to demonstrations of love, even when they‘re performed. When the world is hard enough as it is, our real hope is not to survive, but to find a perfect partner to run through the fire with.

Reggie Awww that was a nice observation. 3y

The Hunger Games❤
So, I am done with the first part of the trilogy.
The book talks about the unique games played amongst 12 districts. Wanna know what happens in those fatal games? Just go grab the book and start reading. The book will hook you till the very end and would definitely force you to quickly grab the second part of the triology i.e. 'Catching Fire'. The language is simple and the characters and the storyline very interesting.
4.3/5🌟

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I love this trilogy! Used to have the best discussions about it at work during the afternoon lull ❤️ may the odds be ever in your favour! 7y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @TheIndianBookworm, I don't really either (which is what made the conversations all the more special) but this particular friend (we've both gone on to radically different jobs now) convinced me to read them (I wasn't initially keen) have you seen the movies? 7y

5/5⭐️ This was both the first fantasy and the first English book I read, as a thirteen year old! I was sooo blown away by the story that I read the whole series first in Swedish and directly afterwards in English. Read in September 2011 and January 2012.

This is not what I thought I'd wake up to. I've never felt so angry, scared, & helpless. I'm not sure what I can do, but I know where I'll start. I'll continue to read those things that challenge me & help me speak confidently & competently on those things I haven't personally experienced. I will read about racism, sexism, & feminism. And I know Litsy will be there to help push me outside my comfort zone.
