Who Was Amelia Earhart? | Kate Boehm Jerome
post image
Pickpick

This B picture book would be a great supplemental reading for a history lesson involving Amelia Earhart. It could be used as a partner read as a hook for a history lesson and would be a great choice during women‘s history month. https://www.readingrockets.org/blogs/shanahan-literacy/who-should-teach-discipli... #UCFLAE3414SP21

Emiranda UDL 3.1 is shown in this strategy by providing this book prior to teaching about Amelia Earhart to supply background knowledge. EL29 could be used if this is for an older student to teach the history of Amelia earhart in American history in a simplified way. 3y
DrSpalding Reading rockets is a high-quality resource and English learner 28 speaks to how important it is to provide biographies to English learners. 3y

This MF book is a sweet story that I think a lot of students can relate to. The main character is struggling to find his favorite book which many students might also be struggling with. Not everyone has an immediate connection to books and they need a little encouragement. https://www.readingrockets.org/article/reading-aloud-build-comprehension #UCFLAE3414SP2

Emiranda this book would be a great read aloud with a comprehension focus. UDL 3.2 can be used when having students identify big events in the story. EL 14 can be used when reading the book using proper ELL reading skills like speaking slowly. 3y
Karissacurrier I love the concept of this book! I feel like students would love it as well. The UDL principle and ESOL strategy you chose work really well with the story! 3y
DrSpalding Why do you think this is modern fantasy? What happens in this book that could not happen in the real world? Your English learner and universal design principles work well. 3y

This MF book is a staple in any classroom regardless of age and it is my all time favorite children's book. This book would be a great read aloud to do at the beginning and end of the year as a motivational story. It is encouraging to people of all ages. I would use this book the day before testing to give students some encouragement. #UCFLAE3414SP2

Emiranda https://www.readingrockets.org/news/4-tools-inspire-perseverance-student-writers UDL 6.1 can be used to apply goal setting. After the reading students can take time to set achievable goals for themselves. EL 3 is used with this book to encourage positive thinking. 3y

This traditional literature story is a caldecott award winner. A fun thing to do with this story is to use it for story telling. The Hunger Games: Volume 1 | Suzanne Collins

This New York Times best seller SF novel would be best for 5-6th grade and could be used as an author study. Suzzane COllins has had a very successful career and has had the privilege of her books becoming major films. https://www.readingrockets.org/resources #UCFLAE3414SP21

Emiranda UDL 7.2 is used as learning about the author makes this book more relevant and allows for students to have a deeper connection with the book. EL 32 can be used if the students are placed in groups for their author study. 3y
DrSpalding Well not appropriate for elementary age students, this series is excellent for middle or high school students. This would be an excellent option for book clubs. Be sure to expand on your summaries a bit more. 3y

This NF picture book is based off of the disney feature film! I would use this as a read aloud to share before watching the film. To implement teaching skills, I would have this lead into a science lesson about the food chain or geography lesson focusing on animals in different parts of the world. https://www.edutopia.org/article/connecting-math-and-science-reading-and-writing #UCFLAE3414SP21

Emiranda UDL 5.1 is used when showing the film to add a multimedia aspect to the lesson and engage students. EL 15 is used when you repeatedly expose the students to the same information, but in different ways. 3y
DrSpalding The resource is excellent! Using quality nonfiction in the content areas is important. Reading is not just meant to be done during English language arts! 3y

This HF SSYRA novel was chosen as a book club read, but I would label it best for IR. The story is set during World war 2 and would be a great read for students while being taught about the subject.

Emiranda https://www.readingrockets.org/article/making-independent-reading-work EL 4 is being presented as this book should be introduced around the sme time a WW2 lesson is so they can activate their background knowledge. UDL 73.1 is used as they are applying their knowledge of this historical event as they read. #UCFLAE3414SP21 3y

This HF Newberry award winner is a popular book read in elementary school. This book is a story about a 12 year old girl called Karana who is stranded on an island and has to work out how to survive. This Rf, Newberry award winner is a classic story that I would recommend to everyone. The story is about a young girl in Florida who adopts a dog who ends up having a huge impact on her life. This book could be a great source for an independent read. Students could take notes on each chapter to create an overall summary that they can look back on after they finish the book.

Emiranda https://www.readingrockets.org/news/digital-note-taking-strategies-deepen-studen... EL 9 is used in this strategy as the students are being exposed to new note taking strategies. UDL 1.1 is being offered as they are given choices to pick new note taking strategies 3y

This MF story is about Pete the Cat who is singing his way around school in his Rockin shoes. This book would be ideal for a read aloud. #UCFLAE3414SP21  https://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/rhyming_games UDL 3.2 is seen in the resource as it is highlighting patterns and rhymes. For the EL strategy we are focusing on 15 which emphasizes repetition.

This MF story is a different take on if you give a mouse a cookie. It is a silly book which talks about the causes of things that happen. This book is a great option for a read aloud. There are things such as if you give a pig a pancake, it will want syrup.  #UCFLAE3414SP21 https://www.brighthubeducation.com/elementary-school-activities/101986-if-you-gi...

Emiranda This source is great for creating a sequence necklace for students to learn about sequence activities. The UDL principle 1.3 applied here gives students a visual to map out and see the sequence of the story and break it down. EL 13 is used in this activity to review the story and the way events happened throughout the story. 3y
