I received this book from @Pigpen_Reads for the #LLWBS. It‘s been on my TBR for a long time. I don‘t think I enjoyed it as much as a lot of others did, but it was a good read. I waffled in the beginning of the book not knowing if I liked any of the characters but most of them grew on me. Solid 4⭐️

When I first started reading this, I was prepared to rate it three stars believing it to be another mediocre read. However, Eleanor slowly but surely grew on me until I fell in love with her character and story.

Themes such as humour, despair, friendship and loneliness are poignantly well written throughout. A beautifully touching and impressive debut from Honeyman.

I wanted to love this book, but I didn't. At one point, I felt like I was just "getting through it", though it does improve. I can't put my finger on what, exactly, leads to my feelings of apathy? about it, but there are some. That said, I actually didn't see the twist coming (and that's a rarity for me), so I was pleasantly surprised about that.
The book was cute. The characters were realistic. I just didn't really connect.

Fabulous novel with an adorable yet unreliable narrator who becomes more reliable as the story unfolds. It is the ease with which you can love the narrator Eleanor, he cleverly crafted voice that is so funny that propels you through the novel.

For me, this book went from β€œoh she‘s quirky and socially awkward” to β€œoh my gosh what happened?” It‘s a tough book to describe - Eleanor is trying to navigate her social life and plan a future romance, but it‘s her past that needs addressing. As she finds herself making real connections and friendships for the first time at age 30, she has to face the truth in order to move on. While she has a lot of trauma, she is still lovable and relatable.

I loved this book so much! It was unexpectedly filled with themes of trauma, mental health, intimacy, and relationships. I wished we learned more about her mom and sister in the book before the ending- but I see how learning about it at the end was Eleanor gaining closure on what happened. Her and Raymond are too cute. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

My mom and I love this book, so we chose it as book #2 in our #readoutloud project. Everyday, we sit together; and I read aloud for us. It was fun to revisit Eleanor and her journey toward freedom from a traumatic past. Her way of seeing the world is quirky and humorous, even in a story filled with sadness. Eleanor is a survivor who learns to thrive.

This odd duck pecked herself a home in my heart (not literally - FYI, this book has absolutely nothing to do with ducks πŸ˜†). This journey & character metamorphosis will always remain special to me. I became Eleanor's personal cheerleader from the very first page, despite all of her faults, but most importantly because of her quirks & eccentricities & social awkwardness (which we both share). A story with friendship and melancholy at its heart β™‘ Xx

Cortg I loved this one! I just read the tagged book and the main character, Molly, reminded me a lot of Eleanor 9mo

I wasn't sure if I would like this at first, Eleanor is quite an odd character. With her mannerisms, I couldn't help but picture her as a young Miranda Hart. Nothing really earthshattering happens, it's a book about everyday life & about not prejudging the people you may meet. Just one thing though - I really would have liked to know where Eleanor booked for the Christmas party in the end & what her workmates thought! 5🌟

I did NOT enjoy this book! I know the point is that Eleanor is odd and quirky, I just couldn't get into it. It wasn't interesting enough to keep my attention.

I generally love a quirky/ unrelatable main character, I just found it too difficult to get into her story line. Others love this book, I was just not one of them

I really wanted to love this book, and parts of it I did. Yet, Eleanor Oliphant had a very slow start. Once I read a little more than half of the book, I couldn‘t seem to put it down. The book‘s plot and structure are very much like it‘s narrator. Eleanor is unsuspecting and even bland, but once the surface has been scratched another side the Eleanor, and ultimately the novel, is revealed. #reesesbookclub

I‘ve read a lot of books set in Great Britain lately. Is this a sign? πŸ€” Anyway, this was a good one. I saw most the twists coming but found Eleanor is be a fascinating character. I had a few problems with some of the things Eleanor did at the end that didn‘t seem to fit her. I didn‘t want her to change in those ways.
