Hausfrau: A Novel | Jill Alexander Essbaum

I found this book difficult to get through. The premise was interesting, but I didn‘t enjoy the type of writing. The book is written in a way where the story jumps back and forth in the timeline throughout the same chapters, with no real distinction. While I know this is done deliberately, I found it difficult to follow. I don‘t think this book will be for everyone.

The first read of the year did not disappoint! This book has so many twists and turns, you won‘t be able to put it down. Very engaging characters and incredible storytelling by Linwood Barclay - definitely recommend.

Didn‘t love this book. The premise was good but I just could not get into it for whatever reason. I found the narrators voice dull. It was not a page turner for me.

The Chili Queen: A Novel | Sandra Dallas

One of my favourite reads of the year. Well written characters with layers - no one perfectly good, no one truly evil. Multiple twists and I was actually shocked by them! A true page turner until the very end.

The Book of Two Ways | Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult does it again. A beautiful and heartbreaking book about our choices in life, and the damage we leave behind. I have never read a book by Jodi that doesn‘t have me in tears lol.

Why Not Me? | Mindy Kaling

It took me two attempts to complete this book. The first time I didn‘t make it much past the first chapter. This time I finished it. I think your feelings on this book really depends on your love of Mindy Kaling. While I love her as an actress, I did not feel that her voice as a writer translates well into print, and I found in difficult to read. That said, if you can see past that; she does make some poignant remarks about being a woman in media.

Ginny Moon | Benjamin Ludwig

One of my favourite books so far this year. I love reading books where the narrator is a child. Benjamin Ludwig did an amazing job exploring the world, logic, emotion and social dynamics from the point of view of an autistic child navigating difficult and confusing circumstances. A real page turner.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I say that not because I expected it to be bad, but because the story I read was not at all what I had expected when reading the summary. I throughly enjoyed the book and feel that even though it‘s categorized as a historical romance, the story and the well written human connections, feelings and struggles would lend itself to any fan of reading. I loved every plot and sub-plot included in this novel.

The Almost Wife: A Novel | Gail Anderson-Dargatz
Mehso-so

The almost wife was great in the beginning. There was great story set up, and I enjoyed that there were no perfect characters. It was blurred who was “the good guys” and who were “the bad guys”. After the initial few chapters, once the story was set up, it was quite thrilling. I was on the edge of my seat for much of the book. But I felt that the climax of the book went on far too long. By the time I was done the book, I thought FINALLY! 🙄

A very enjoyable book. I enjoyed that the narrator was first person from Gwendolyn Rogers. I believe this could be a very insightful book for neurotypicals to understand the thought process and inner struggles that neurodivergent people deal with on a daily basis when attempting to interact with the world around them.
