I got mail today from my lovely and dear friend @fabienne.luethi ❤️ She made me a #bookmark for our #buddyread of Michael J. Sullivans "Theft of Swords" ??❤️ Thank you so much ?
x-posted from my instagram.
I just adore this series. If you're looking for an epic fantasy series with thieves, kick-ass women, and political intrigue, check this one out. ♥️
This was a reread for me. Really good light fantasy series. I'd recommend for tweens/teens as a good intro into adult fantasy (no sex or bad language).
And finally....the awesome selection of books 😍 I love that you added some of your favs in (and thanks for the Mindy Kaling add!). I can't wait to start Theft of Swords. It sounds so good! I have a friend staying with me for a while and she can't wait to read it either! These picks are perfect!
Thank you so much @Melissa_J for an amazing swap. You spoil me, as usual. I hope you enjoy your package as much as I did 😘😘

I hate when I‘m too tired to read. 😴😴
Did at least 4 hours of yard work today! We are trying to create a bigger backyard so had to pull out trees and brush (which you can kind of see in the background) and will hopefully get clean fill this week!
Relaxing by the fire now and trying to burn some of the wood! No reading happening right now.
I‘m about 100 pages into this book and enjoying it so far!

Book 32 of 2019 - I'm really torn about this epic fantasy. It's a very standard swords-and-sorcery epic with lots of fantasy tropes and a medieval European world. There was also a real lack of interesting female characters (so often an issue in fantasy, sigh). However, the characters and the central mystery were just intriguing enough to keep me reading for hundreds of pages.
The Good:
Likeable characters, detailed world building, lots of swashbuckling action, appropriate for any age group or audience
The Bad:
Underdeveloped characters (especially the female characters), too much exposition, a lot of tropes, longer than it needed to be
Not the best fantasy novel I've read, but overall it was very enjoyable. I've already bought the next book in the series and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I'm about halfway through Book II of the Riyria Revelations. It started a little slow but it's getting better.
Whew! It's been snowing nonstop since 10:00 this morning! ❄⛄🌬 They closed the library early! I should be a mature adult and use this time to get a jump start on my homework for the week...but I think I'm going to make tea and curl up with this book instead! 😁💕📚👍

So apparently today is #NationalIceCreamDay. So of course I'm celebrating with Black Raspberry ice cream and a book. #MmmIceCream #Reading #Books #Riyria #Royce #Hadrian #Thieves
I need to get my hands on the next in the series ASAP!!!

Newest fiction crush is a toss up between Hadrian & Royce. I can't decide which one I like more. They are quiet the team.😍

All of my family is out of town for the forth so I am going to stay out of this heat and hibernate inside, just me, my Jaws socks, & my books, until it is firework time.
Yes, apparently I am now one of those people who use my ereader as a bookmark. I wanted to take both of my books to work tonight in case it is slow 😂😂
An entertaining read, the characters are fun and the plot interesting.
Michael Sullivan is an author I have enjoyed in the past, so I decided to finally get to more from him. The audios are really good and the narrator for his books does a great job!
A refreshing read. Recommend this book to all those who love lotr, eragon, etc. Good fantasy setting with a strong characters.
When you wake up to this 🙌 @Melissa_J have you seen this!? #riyria #michaeljsullivan #fantasy #hesunderrated
I received my limited edition of The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter in the mail a few days ago and I am in love with it!

I‘m planning to offer up more recommendations moving forward, and thought I‘d start with the works of one of my favourite authors, Michael J. Sullivan. If you like the fantasy genre and haven‘t yet read Sullivan‘s Riyria books, I can‘t recommend them enough (start with Theft of Swords). They are also great books to try if you‘re interested in reading fantasy but are unsure where to start.

I have found similarities in the author's writing style with that of Terry Brooks. From the first book there are references to the deer, elves, goblins, but they are never deep. the reader becomes aware of some history of elves. And that is the element I loved the most. To get to know the plot very slowly, however, without boring me. As soon as I finished the last page I perceived the lack of character jokes and their lack.

This book sucked me in quickly! Wish I had heard of Michael J. Sullivan sooner!
Great book! It could do with some more female characters but overall, it's really good. A tad predictable in some places. Now to wait for the next one to come in at the library.
Next up! I had picked up the crown tower, thinking it was the first book in the series, when I realized it was a prequel. I wanted to read the story in the order it was published, as apparently there are little hidden tidbits to be found in the prequels which is always fun. So I'm going to dive into this massive story, wish me luck!
Stopped at HPB today for the first time in forever and found treasures. They never have these graphic novels and then today, bam! And only $5 apiece. Plus some good prices on tv series. Flying high today!
Michael J. Sullivan self-pubbed the Riyria Revelations as 6 books; but when Orbit re-issued them, they combined them into a trilogy. Technically, I have read the first book about a pair of good-hearted thieves who work among the nobility in this feudal fantasy; but have only read half of the first volume. It was just okay; nothing that makes me scream for more; but I will probably read 'Avempartha' (Second part of the first book). 👇
Half-Way Status Update: I'm halfway done with 'The Crown Conspiracy' and I have to confess I find it a bit disappointing; but I also acknowledge that I may be comparing it unfairly with Mark Lawrence's feudal fantasy, The Broken Empire trilogy - which I think is absolutely brilliant! There's nothing egregiously wrong w/TCC; there's just nothing terribly compelling so far either :-/
So, I sat down this evening to start The Riyria Chronicles (thinking that it would be an excellent week-end reading project,) only to discover that the author really recommends reading The Riyria Revelations first! Quick run to B&N to pick up 'Theft of Swords'... Managed to get in the first chapter which reminded me a bit of 'The Scarlet Pimpernel!' So yeah, I'm in! 👍🏼
I justify this thriftbooks order by reminding myself that the Riyria Revelations are my fave. And I only own the 6 indie versions on Ebook and not the re-released published trilogy. And we should all own hard copies of our faves right?? Right. #shopon #readon #andillkeepbuyingthem
I've finally hit the half way point in my current audio and really enjoying this book. Pretty sure I know who the Heir is but will probably take until the final book for confirmation. Now I just need to find more places to drive to so I can make more progress!! 😊
Starting this on audio today because when @BethFishReads raves about an audio/series you know it's going to be good 😊
Next, some sci-fi/fantasy reads that have been on my TBR FOREVER.
One of my #bookishpetpeeves is mismatched sizes in my series. *sighs* But, when funds are tight, I care more about quantity than I do aesthetics. It's what's inside that matters, right? #marchintoreading
Fantastic book from start to finish. This is the beginning of a three part series, and it is a lot of fun! I really think it would make a fantastic movie, if the casting is right with Hadrian and Royce. But read it, enjoy it, and tell more people about it!
My #favoritenonromanticcouple is definitely Royce and Hadrian from Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles books. They are two of my favourite fictional characters #booklove17
Finished the audiobook. The world building is excellent and I loved the two main characters, Royce and Hadrian. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, but I think I'm going to take a short break to listen to something completely different. fills several challenge spots, including #LitsyAtoZ (author) #LetterS and #LitsyReadingChallenge #LRC10 BTW-Tim Gerard Reynolds is a great narrator.
Listening to this while working on sub pay apps. I usually don't listen to audiobooks I haven't already read if I'm doing something that requires focus, but I want to get this one finished so I can move onto other things. Sadly, I'll be up working longer than this book will last tonight. 😕
Since I'm struggling with Prince Philip, I thought I'd take a break a listen to more of this one while I work on a new quilt top. #Andawaytheygo #currentlyreading #audiosewing #quilter
