Outlander
Outlander | Diana Gabaldon
Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon—when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743.Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Stretching a wee bit, @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage & @4thhouseontheleft, and using the challenge as an excuse to finally start watching Outlander adaptation. ?

I've read the first three books and have heard glowing reviews of the adaptation being well cast. So much so that every time Jonathan Randall aka "Black Jack" comes on screen, I can hardly watch knowing what's ahead. ? #BookwormProblem ?

Cinfhen Ooohhhh, maybe I should watch adaptation since I‘m never going to read the series #PageCountPhobia 😉 6d
Karisa @Cinfhen I hear ya! Definitely why I stopped after the third book. It was such a time commitment to start each one. 😂 Adaptation seems to be capturing the first book perfectly--not for the faint of heart. The author was heavily involved. 6d
Cinfhen Now I‘m really pumped xx thanks 6d

Susannah I‘ve never seen #pagecountphobia, but I know I have it, @Cinfhen, and will be using it again. 😉 (edited) 6d
Cinfhen Ha!! @Susannah it‘s REAL!!! And I‘m a long term sufferer 😂 6d
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m okay with the stretch and I will add #pagecountexhaustion to @Cinfhen ‘s hashtag. Last month I read a couple of super long and intense books. Now I can‘t stomach anything over 300 pages. #needabreak 🤪 (edited) 5d
Cinfhen There‘s something really appealing about a 265 page book @BarbaraTheBibliophage 5d

Today I did something new, I donated blood for the first time. Honestly I was surprised at how sore I found it. But blood saves lives and that makes the pain worthwhile so I will probably go back in 8 weeks again. Continued with some of the monster that is Outlander. About 70% through now so slowly but surely reaching the end.

📖 Litsians Assemble! 📚Just started the Outlander show and I am HOOKED. I love historical fiction and this seems right up my ally. Im wondering if this is a series YOU would recommend me listening on Audiobook after I finish my journey through Middle Earth with the Silmarillion? 🤔

baes Yes! Love the audiobooks. It is a series I listen and read at same time, but I also listen to alone in car. It took me part of book 1 to get used to her voice, but once I did then I couldn‘t imagine anyone else doing it. She is fantastic with all the accents and voices. 2w

swishandflick The audiobooks are wonderful! Davina Porter does a phenomenal narration. 2w

I first read this book in 2005 & was captured by Gabaldon's storytelling & 18th Century Scottish history. Battling evil, and surrounded by richly unforgettable characters, 2 imperfect people, Claire & Jamie fight to live & to love each other. I've since read it twice & finally allowed myself to see the series on Starz. I was afraid they would ruin my beloved book, but on the contrary, I'm more in love with this story & these characters.

The view from Dad‘s hospital room...at least the construction is a little exciting. I know he needs to be here but it‘s becoming very difficult to be around him. I‘m sure it‘s scary to have short term memory loss, but I‘m really frustrated. He doesn‘t know where he is. Do I lie to him or tell the truth? I‘ve been doing both, but it doesn‘t seem to matter. I‘ve still got 200 pgs left, and I‘d love nothing more than to sit down quietly to finish.

This is honestly one the best hands down! I said it before, I am in love with this book series now. A section towards the end was especially excruciating to get through content wise (see spoilers 👇 ❗CW is first), but it was worth it to see our characters come out the other side afterwards with a sweet ending.
The bond between him and Claire is sweet and tender beyond words.... I friggin love Jaimie so much I could cry! He's so precious! 💕😭

Oldschool_millenial 👇💥CONTENT WARNING SEXUAL ASSAULT💥 1mo
Oldschool_millenial ⚠️ the arc in which Jack Randal, the main antagonist, coerces an imprisoned and tortured Jaimie into sexual favors. While we don't bear witness to it (THANKFULLY!) the horrific resulting emotional and physical trauma is on display. ⚠️ His recovery is believably slow, difficult and painful, and scattered recollections of the assault are conveyed more than bluntly described. ⚠️ Worth seeing him through, BUT PUT YOUR HEALTH FIRST 1mo

In my hometown once again. Trying to get in a few minutes of reading while my dad sleeps. Unpopular opinion, I hated this book. Claire is not a strong female protagonist. And I never believed in the love story. Also, not much happened and I never felt like the book was driving in a particular direction. I read the whole thing, hoping for redemption, but there wasn‘t any. I struggled through this and wouldn‘t wish that on anyone else.

I just could not get into this one! It is kind of long winded and not enough happening. I made it almost 200 pages in and just wasn‘t feeling it. I tried to force myself to keep going but I have other books on my list to read so I‘m just giving up on this one. If you like historical romance types of fiction, though, this book is probably great for you. I‘m not a huge romance or history person so I‘m bailing.

I liked the biggest part of it. It is a story to get lost in, one of these books you just can't put away. I can totally understand why it is so popular. However, in the end I had to distance myself from all the violence and abuse.
I haven't decided yet, if I want to continue with the series. I bought it mostly out of curiosity.

aroc I agree, the violence and abuse is difficult but the story is so intricate that I tend to push past it and keep going. I love Jaime and Claire. 3mo
Kloves2read I love Jamie and Claire! I agree it's hard to read at time but the story on as a whole is nothing short of epic. My Favorite is book #3, Voyager. 1mo
