pickI don‘t recall reading this when I was a kid, but I remember the movie, even if just the end. I wanted something with substance to read to my son, and boy did this deliver. I was sobbing so hard I couldn‘t read the most emotional line of the book! My son, who had dry eyes (how?!), has to read it to me. There is a great lesson at the end, too, that I think gets lost. It‘s one we should remind our children of, especially the ones who dwell on bad.
Ran across this at a used bookstore, in near perfect condition! My son has always enjoyed classics like Treasure Island, Around the World in 80 days, etc. He also loves anything John Wayne, so a classic book has needed to shake things up for a while. I‘ve only seen the movie and am excited to read this aloud. Mentally I‘m prepared for waterworks, even though we already know what‘s going to happen!
pickI only needed one book to complete my Goodreads challenge for the year — with only today left — so it needed to be short. Old Yeller caught my eye, and I‘d never read it before, so I chose it. While I liked it, I didn‘t cry — possibly because I already knew the ending but possibly also because we‘re told on the very first page what will happen.

pickThe relationship between dogs and humans is so fascinating to me. They‘re almost better at being good humans than we are. I know the story of Old Yeller from watching the Disney movie as a child, but reading it was definitely an experience. Of course I cried at the end, who doesn‘t? Despite being more of a young reader classic, I gave it 5⭐️s and will be keeping it with the rest of my classics. ❤️❤️❤️

For my #ReadWithMrBook #TearJerker selection, I picked this one 😁! I chose it for a couple different reasons:
1. I can‘t recall re-reading as an adult a childhood favorite, and I wanted to see if my opinion would change.
2. I wanted to see if it could still make me tear up.
Animals going through a major crisis strike such a chord with me! 😩 The whole last part of the book I was all 🥺😭. It‘s still got it! Still enjoyed this little book.

1. Yes. I have had the ending alone ruin a book I loved until that moment. Sometimes I come to terms with it and other times it never does.
2. Haha, yes. Sometimes it is the right ending but I still don't like it. It is more a hate to love situation. And the other times it is like my answer to the first question.

pickThis is another that I missed reading as a child. It must be 30+ years since I have seen the movie, but I‘m pretty sure Disney‘s adaptation is pretty faithful. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I was captivated by the story of Travis and his Old Yeller. Disney did change what happens to Old Yeller slightly, but the result is the same. I cried just like I did when I saw the movie. #LitsyAtoZ
Look at the end papers in this old edition I found while culling books. 😵 Has lovely line drawings inside the pages. I wonder if this will still be a traumatic reread as an adult.
I love old & used stuff. Can‘t get enough of thrift stores, estate sales, and antique markets. As such, I have piles & displays all over my house. Sometimes it drives my husband crazy, but he deals. 💕 This is one of my favorite. Makes me wish I had a #tickettoride somewhere fascinating 100s of years ago! #heyjune

So this book is set in the Texas Hill Country which is pretty much where I️ live. There‘s bears in the book but no bears here. Did bears go extinct in this area between when the book was written and now or did the author not know that bears don‘t live here? 🤔

pickOld yeller is a excellent book for an AS or LC. It talks about a poor family on the Texas frontier, who find a stray dog that they adopt. He protects the family from many dangers. It is a Newberry award winner. ESOL principles are 1- teach questioning, 2-promote cooperation. UDL principles are 2.1-clarify vocab and 3.1-activate background knowledge. #ucflae3414f17

That was as rough a thing as I ever heard tell of happening to a boy. And I'm mighty proud to learn how my boy stood up to it. You couldn't ask any more of a grown man... It's not a thing you can forget. I don't guess it's a thing you ought to forget. What I mean is, things like that happen. They may seem mighty cruel and unfair, but that's how life is part of the time. But that isn't the only way life is. A part of the time, it's mighty good...
pickOld Yeller was the first novel I read with my class, and I absolutely loved it. Eighth grade. In my day we mostly read short story anthologies in school so I was thrilled with this change. #readinschool #photoadaynov16
I cried when I read this as a kid. A couple years ago, my son had to read this for school. So, I read it to him because I knew how sad it was, and he still enjoyed me reading to him (even in 4th grade). Well, I ended up sobbing while trying to read.
