I don't know if I've ever read this. ? I know?! I need to (re)read it. But I do know I watched the hell out of the 1987 movie as a kid. I had a crush on Dickon. ?

Lovely to read now as I prepare my own garden for spring. So many motifs and themes to explore here, both as a child and an adult. Haunting to think how few years after this book was published Europe was plunged into the darkness of the First World War.

Three very different books #WithAnimalsOnTheCover. Elizabeth Young is one of my favorite romance authors, and A Girl's Best Friend, about dog-lover Izzy finding love with a prickly vet, is so good! The Secret Garden is chock-full of animals and flowers and kid's magic, and Sam Irby's book has nothing to do with rabbits, but I still recommend reading every single thing she's written! #3Books

I'd read this when I was in elementary school, but could only really remember impressions of it. What a lovely story. Could do without the racism near the beginning though. Didn't remember any of that, so either my school book was edited, or I was too young to understand what I was reading. But other than that it was a heartwarming story. And now I want a secret garden for myself.

Congratulations on your Litsyversary Barbara!

The Secret Garden is set on the wild Yorkshire Moors (along with Wuthering Heights!). This was one of my favourite books when I was a child and I keep meaning to re-read it now, to see if it still has the same magic!

BarbaraBB Such a great place to live! I envy you! Thanks for entering dear Helen 💕 4y

Had a nice re-visit with this one this week since its flower garden season here in the South. The story was just as lovely as I remembered. I've always loved the part where Dickon points out what is still “wick“ in the garden and I always think of that when I'm cleaning up my garden after the winter. All the ⭐s

VeganCleopatra This may seem super random but I've been asking fellow vegans if they have a go-to brownie recipe? I have tried so many over the years and cannot find "the one" and fear it may be living at elevation. No worries if you don't have an answer or don't like chocolate or something (?). ? 4y
See All 8 Comments
Powered_By_Plants @VeganCleopatra not at all! I always use the Bosh boys peanut butter and jam ones and then just take out the PB&J out if we arn‘t feeling it and add extra chocolate and white chocolate or nuts. I will dig it out for you 😉 . Not liking chocolate!! Never heard of such a thing 😜 (edited) 4y
VeganCleopatra Lol thanks for indulging my question. And can you believe I know people who don't like chocolate? 😱 I don't get it. I've never actually tried a Bosh recipe before, do you like them overall? I'm concerned about removing the pb and jam in terms of moisture etc (very important at elevation). What do you do exactly to compensate? I know you said add extra chocolate but I mean specifically? 4y
VeganCleopatra And while we're on food...what were these delightful things in this post? I'm on the phone app so I can't zoom in. 😞 4y
Powered_By_Plants @VeganCleopatra the pb&j is just dropped on the top of the brownie to give a marble effect 🤤 , if I don‘t use that I use chunks of chocolate and white chocolate and poke them in the top 😋 . Iv posted the recipe I hope you can read it. Lots of homemade goodies , heart shaped fruit scones I bought Dairy free spray cream for the kiddies but I prefer the oatly creme fraiche it‘s amazing with scones and jam 🤩 4y
VeganCleopatra Thanks for posting the recipe, I actually found it online. It does call for some of the pb in the actual brownies. I guess you usually skip that and they're ok? Ha. I don't even know if we have this oatly creme fraiche in the states. 🤷‍♀️ When I need cream I make coconut cream. 4y

Surprisingly, this was my first reading of this classic!

Though the language and political correctness are very dated, this is a charming tale of friendship and, dare I say magic, in the English countryside. I can see why this is an enduring classic - positive thinking, healthy exercise, and a dose of imagination propel the narrative. I am not a fan of the outdoors, but even I thought of the smell of soil and all things Spring!

It‘s a snowy day so here‘s a picture from days ago...that‘s Colorado weather for you.
I loved this book. It‘s a book for young‘ns which was good for me as there was just love and companionship and respect, no crushes or love triangles. (Do I need to save myself some heartache and not read the sequel?)
I loved how compassionately the author dealt with children who are not well-mannered and the feelings of adults who are hurting.
Beautiful & sweet

jmofo @wanderinglynn book 3/6 for #BHC still going strong with the meditate (just missed three days so far) I am wondering if I can finish 3 books before the 18th... this has been good for me, regardless, thank you for loosening up the challenge! It was good timing and a lot less intimidating! 4y

EadieB @Butterflyamore Definitely interested in Just Mercy as I read the book. Dolittle looks great and Wendy too. Secret Garden is a must. The Woman In The Window - I read that one and would like to see what they do with that. Just read that the rights were bought by Disney and the movie is being revamped by them. The Witches, News of the World and I know This Much is True would be good to see also. 4y

I don‘t want to write an extensive review on this one. Is there anything I can say that hasn‘t already been said? I‘m sure I recognized, to some degree, that this story was meaningful when I was a kid but I‘m also certain that the bulk of its symbolic depth went way over my head. I‘m so glad we chose this book for our book club. Revisiting it through adult eyes was an enlightening experience and I‘m really looking forward to our group discussion.
