Halfway though the book and are taking a break to do some research. The story is based on real events in Norway during WWII. MS Rigel- The ship mentioned in the book was used as a German prisoner of war (POW) transport during World War II, and was sunk by British Fleet Air Arm aircraft off Norway on 27 November 1944 with more than 2,500 dead, mostly POWs. That is 1000 more casualties than the Titanic shipwreck!

Next up! Love the book cover. From afar it looks peaceful and tranquil. But when you look closer you discover the islands are dead soldiers! #norwegian #norway

(edited) 3d

Due to work obligations I have had very little time to read this month. But yesterday I finally finished this book and I loved it. I can now look forward to a seven week vacation 🎉 And hopefully I will have time to read many interesting books 📚

RachelO I loved this book by the same author. Enjoy your break! 3d
Siri_reads @RachelO thank you! I also loved Hotel Silence. Actually so much that I just had to read The Greenhouse. 3d
AnneCecilie Tror jeg må teste ut denne forfatteren snart 3d

Listening to The Greenhouse while tidying in my own greenhouse. Love audiobooks! They make it possible to combine my two favourite hobbies, reading and gardening 💕

AnneCecilie Hva er det du planter der? 2w
Blir kanskje druesaft? 😉 2w

Started reading this book yesterday. So far I‘m loving it. After I started reading books on my Kindle I realised how important book covers are for my reading experience. I also find it fascinating how a book title change in translation. The Icelandic title Afleggjarinn would be translated Cuttings (cuttings from 🌹) I do realise this title would be strange in English. But by giving the book the title The Greenhouse something is lost in translation

Thanks for tagging me @AnneCecilie I‘m doing #ThursdaySurvey on a Saturday. 1. I have two favourites so far: A Gentleman in Moscow and Hotel Silence. 2. Can‘t remember. 3. The Greenhouse and Sommerlys og så kommer natten (not sure the book has been translated to English yet) 4. No reading goals. They make me stressed and ruin my reading experience ? @laurenslibrary

It‘s World Bee Day 🐝 today! To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day.

I want to recommend this children‘s book. It is set in Waldorf Astoria, New York. Max and his father, the hotel chef, want beehives to their rooftop garden. The book is both funny and educational. 🐝❤️ #worldbeeday #beekeeping

This novel took me by surprise! I didn‘t think a book about a depressed middle aged man, with a passion for tools, would be my cup of tea. It totally was. I really liked the book and found it hard to put down. Yes, the subject matter was dark and serious but it wasn‘t depressing. It was original and had a lot of gallows humour. Everything was written in a respectful and loving way.

Don‘t judge a book by its cover....The same book in six different languages. Icelandic, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, English and French. Which edition would you choose? I find the English edition a little strange. The cover reminds me of a feel-good romance. They have also changed the title from Scars to Hotel Silence. I wonder why? 🤔

Erofan All the covers are beautiful! 😍 Although I choose Icelandic! Is that a drill bit painted on it? 2mo

Celebrating Henrik Ibsen‘s birthday with a cup of coffee and studying my copy of Emperor and Galilean. As a Norwegian teacher Ibsen has a special place in my heart. Love the strong women in his plays. Bought this copy in a flee-market for about one dollar in 1993 only 12 years old. It‘s an old library book from 1892. But what‘s special is that it once belonged to the National-theatre in Oslo ❤️

The islanders in The Unseen are completely dependent on their boat Færing to survive. The boat is like a miniature Viking ship and built in the same way. Yesterday during lunch I talked with a fellow teacher about this book. It turns out she is a trained færing shipbuilder! What a coincidence! ? This is not a common profession at all and definitely not among women! Impressive ?? photo from: https://lokalhistoriewiki.no/Færing

Whatever is washed ashore on an island belongs to the finder, and the islanders find a lot. It might be cork or barrels or hemp or driftwood or flotage –green and brown glass balls to stop fishing nets sinking... There might be a wooden toy for Ingrid, there might be fish boxes and oars, gaffs, bow rollers, bailers, poles, planks and the remains of boats. ❤️ Love treasure hunting on my local beach. Unfortunately, I almost only find plastic...

BiblioLitten So cool! But 👎🏼 for all the plastic, that‘s unfortunate and irresponsible. 4mo

The documentary novel The Girl in the Wall, is about the young, #jewish girl Betzy Rosenberg, who by a miracle avoided the Jewish deportation from #Norway during WWII. From 1942-1945 she was kept hidden, sometimes inside the wall, in a cottage outside Trondheim. Gestapo used the neighboring cabin as a sanctuary for partying and shooting practice. Betzy lost her entire family, but survived the war as a traumatized woman. #holocaust #history
