Fate of the Fallen
Fate of the Fallen | Kel Kade
The start of a brand new adventure from New York Times bestselling author Kel Kade Not all stories have happy endings. Everyone loves Mathias. Naturally, when he discovers its his destiny to save the world, he dives in head first, pulling his best friend Aaslo along for the ride. However, saving the world isnt as easy, or exciting, as it sounds in the stories. The going gets rough and folks start to believe their best chance for survival is to surrender to the forces of evil, which isnt how the prophecy goes. At all. As the list of allies grows thin, and the friends find themselves staring death in the face they must decide how to become the heroes they were destined to be or, failing that, how to survive. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

I procrastinate mythological settings never sure I‘m in the right place for the story. I was where I belong here!. Aaslo was a great character and I cracked up at Mathias‘ continuing story. The supplemental characters were spot on. Peck and Mory have my heart, and I never knew I‘d have such fondness for a reaper!

Yes, I‘m using a second book in the same series I used earlier, but Fate of the Fallen, the book before Destiny of the Dead, is excellent. I‘m so very much ready for book 3.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one. The story was clever and funny, and I loved the cast of characters. I've already placed book 2 on hold at the library.

LazyLibrary I‘ve had this book since it was a BOTM pick! I should read it! 2y

I was intrigued by the premise of this one: What happens when the chosen one fails? It turns out his BFF tries to take up the cause and get the job done. I loved Aaslo the reluctant hero as he tries to amass the allies needed to save the world despite the prophecy proclaiming doom without the chosen one. It did end with a bit of a cliff hanger which wasn't too fun but I think this is still a series I'll continue with.

So much unexpectedness that it kept me turning the pages. None of the usual adventure tropes were present and it was glorious breath of fresh air. I laughed, I kind of cried, and I couldn‘t put it down once I dove in.

I LOVED that there is this sort of mythology reminiscent of the Greeks about it but she has her own spin on it. The magic and just wondering who is pulling what strings. It‘s so many of my favorite things in one book!

This is a hard book to review, as it was slow to grab my attention, far more interesting in the middle, and then just sort of fizzled at the end.

Interesting premise: what if the chosen one falls and the sidekick has to save the day? I enjoyed the humor and banter, but not so much the writing: the plot skips around in a jarring manner and I like my fantasy with more complete world-building.

Not sure I will continue with this series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

sprainedbrain Also, I honestly thought this felt like fantasy by a male author the whole time I was reading and was kind of surprised when I finished to find the author is female. Not sure what that means, but I can‘t stop thinking about it. 🤔 4y

I got Kel Kade's Fate of the Fallen last year, and while I love high fantasy, I kept putting it off because sometimes, it's work to absorb all of the world building and intricate details. Fortunately, Fate of the Fallen NEVER feels like work (I wish I'd picked it up earlier!). The novel begins with best friends Mathias and Aaslo. Mathias is outgoing and popular and loves his small town. Raised and taught by his grandmother Magdelay, ⬇️

UnabridgedPod Mathias is enthusiastic about learning--he loves to know about the world, languages, and history--and trains hard to learn how to fight. He's popular with girls around town who like Mathias because he's kind, friendly, handsome . . . and likely to be mayor one day. Aaslo, on the other hand, is an introvert, a forester by trade and lifestyle who likes nothing more than to be in the forest. ⬇️ 4y
UnabridgedPod But he loves Mathias, who he calls his brother, so he dives into lessons and training alongside his friend. Unlike Mathias, Aaslo isn't interested in taking all the girls to the town's dances; instead, he focuses on only one girl, Reyla, who he plans to marry.⠀

All this changes when Magdelay confronts Mathias and Aaslo and tells Mathias (1) that she's a sorceress, (2) that he's the chosen one, and ⬇️
4y
UnabridgedPod (3) that the fate of the entire world rests on a prophecy that places him at the center. They have to leave their home, immediately, and never come back. Mathias is, of course, take aback, but he obeys, says goodbye to Aaslo, and follows Magdelay into the forest to meet his destiny. Aaslo, not content to let his friends wander lost through the forest, follows so that he can guide them. ⬇️ 4y
UnabridgedPod And then . . . well, everything changes when the group is met by ghastly, vaguely human creatures and an evil mage. ⠀

These events all happen in the first few chapters. What ensues is at turns sad, frightening, funny, and hopeful. Kade has a knack for building toward ideas about what's best (and worst) in humanity and to making the reader consider notions of brotherhood and friendship and heroism.

Pretty good haul from my new local library. It‘s nice being part of a larger system now because they have more books! But there‘s also way more people...that put holds on books...like all the ones I have. So renewals aren‘t something I‘ll be able to fall back on anymore in case I don‘t get all these finished in time😪The actual physical library itself I‘m lukewarm on, but maybe I‘ll grow to love it. Fingers crossed I can get these done.

InBooksILive The tagged book sounds so good! I'm looking forward to seeing how you like it! 4y

It took me a bit to get into the plot of this book, but as I read more I started to love it. I can‘t wait for the next book to come out bc I think it‘ll be even better.

The so-so rating is because it took me a while to get invested in the book, and I was a bit skeptical for the first half about whether I would enjoy the plot, and how it‘s got a different feel to most fantasy I read even if there are still some common themes.

Helo everyone, I keep seeing glowing reviews on this book, but I'm struggling to past page 186 and it was a struggle getting to this point. Does the plot pick up at some point or should I just stop now? I hate quitting books, but this has been a struggle to get into. Your thoughts? :)

Update: After several hours of deliberation I have decided to bail on this book. I have too many books on my shelf that I want to read more than this one.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! this was soooooo good!! It starts out like your typical fantasy story and then BAM it becomes so unpredictable and just crazy turn after crazy turn! The Main Character was the biggest head turner and that‘s how I am leaving that! Also Dolt is best stupid horse ever and I love him! Ahh I can‘t wait for book 2!!!

My guy is out for a few hours & the dog is (finally!) tuckered out, so I'm taking a little break to read a bit more of this. Work has gotten very busy so I haven't gotten much reading time in lately. Confession: I am so behind that this book was just released so while in B&N yesterday, I snapped a pic of the map that my ARC is missing.

I started this book on the first leg of my trip and will read more during my 2.5 hour layover. The dialogue is a bit juvenile, but I like the plot and setting so far.

@Branwen My BOTM finally showed up.

I am so excited to read this, I have been waiting for months for its release since I stumbled upon it on Goodreads. I feel a little special knowing I have it earlier too since it comes out next month, this is as close to an ARC I have ever had (I have never had an ARC) the only thing irking me about this copy is that logo for BOTM why couldn‘t it be a sticker, I‘ll admit I‘m a cover snob and that ruins it DX

Branwen I'M SO GLAD YOU FINALLY GOT IT! WHOO HOO! 😀📚💕 5y
Sweetkokoro @branwen I am happy I got it too, and the way they ship their books is nice, the box was all mangled so I was worried but they put in the air tight plastic with a larger cardboard piece under it so the book was undamaged, so they get points for that. Their shipping time, not so much lol. 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Hahahaha! Yeah, I'm still super surprised about how long it took! 😦 5y
Sweetkokoro @branwen Yah, im hoping it was a fluke, and I‘ll give them another shot just to be fair. 5y

While I'm always excited for my Book of the Month box to arrive, this month I was particularly impatient for it to get here! I love my choices! 😍 I'm always overjoyed when there are good fantasy books to pick from! And Imaginary Friend looks delightfully spooky and it's HUGE! Over 700 pages! Yaaaassss! 👍📚💕 What did everyone else choose this month? #bookmail #botm

vivastory I also selected the Chbosky & Fate of the Fallen 5y
Branwen @vivastory Sweet! Which one are you starting first? 5y
vivastory I should receive my box by Monday & it's hard to say. I'm in a major horror mood, so the Chbosky is very tempting, but it's been awhile since I've read a fantasy... What about you? 5y

YAAAASSSSSS! The Book of the Month picks are up, littens! Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the choices for this month are out of this world awesome! 😀🎉📚 Here's what I picked: an adult fantasy, a YA fantasy, and a fantastic looking spooky book by the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower! It's apparently over 700 pages and I'm all about big books! 😉 I'M SO EXCITED! Which books are you guys going to choose? #botm #bookmail

The_Heeler_Booklife Imaginary Friend and The Beautiful. 5y
Sweetkokoro Oh I might have to join finally that Fate of the Fallen has been on my radar for months. It‘s nice to see an Adult Fantasy book in one of these monthly book things, they usually focus on Ya fantasy. 5y
Branwen @allthingskayla The Beautiful looks SO GOOD! It was hard not choosing that one! @Sweetkokoro Yes! I agree, it's not very often they feature adult fantasy so I was thrilled to see Fate of the Fallen in their lineup this month! They generally have a lot of thriller and historical fiction titles. You should totally join! You can always skip a month if you don't like the choices! 5y

The_Heeler_Booklife @Branwen I really only wanted The Beautiful and didn‘t like October‘s selection. Fate of the Fallen was something I was like maybe, but I read so much fantasy I decided to pass. So, in order to get my ya selection, I had to pick something and I just hit members favorites and got Imaginary Friend. I hope it is good and a spooky read for October. 5y
Sweetkokoro @branwen I most likely will since it‘s an early release for the book and I really want it haha. Do you know if they usually come in hardback? Since that was the version I was looking to get haha. Either way I‘m sure I‘m still joining, I want this book! I do like the overall set up of the idea and knowing what books are available. 5y
Branwen @allthingskayla I've heard such great things about it so far! I'm hoping it's super spooky! 😨 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro All the ones I've ever gotten havw been in hardcover! I'm certain that's the way they all come! Hey, what's your email? If you're going to join up I can send you a referral email with the link! 😀 5y
The_Heeler_Booklife @Branwen on goodreads it has some mixed reviews, but it is 700 pages, so I‘m crossing my fingers. 5y
Branwen @allthingskayla Me too, friend! 😀🤞 5y

Sweetkokoro @branwen oh that makes wanting to join it even more enticing! I love hardbacks! And yah send me a link! My email is nemuiloo87 @ Gmail . Com 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Hahaha! Me too! I love hardcovers! And getting them through botm is cheaper than getting them through a store! I've been a member since 2016 and I honestly love it! Okay, I just sent the email! Let me know if you didn't get it and I can send it again! 🤗 Yay so exciting! 💕 5y

Sweetkokoro Okay I made my purchase, I only got the one book, but let me know if you got your credit too. I bought it through the link but the site was loading so slow. 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Whoo hoo! It worked! I just checked and I recieved my free credit as well! How awesome! Thank you, friend! What a great deal for both of us! 😀💕📚 5y
Sweetkokoro Woo yay!! I‘m so glad it worked and your welcome of course, free books are always welcome!! I‘m so excited to be getting this book early! I can‘t wait for it to get to me haha. 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro I know, right?! Me too! It looks soooo good! Now the hard part is waiting for it to come in the mail! 🤣😂 5y
Sweetkokoro That really is, I was already dying waiting for November to come for its actual release date, I found it months ago and have been hyped for it since, I hope its great. Now I‘m just impatient because I know I‘m getting it early hahah 🤣 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Hahahaha! Waiting is just too difficult when it comes to books! Especially fantasy books! 😁 5y
Sweetkokoro That is so true, I want to hurry and immerse myself in a new world haha. Oh also About roughly when do you get the box? Do they ship roughly right after you order or is there a waiting period like the other monthly book subscriptions? Their faq doesn‘t answer much haha 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Honestly they usually ship it out 1-2 days after you put your order in! So I wouldn't be surprised if they ship out tommorrow or wednesday! And generally, depending on where you live, it takes less than a week for it to arrive. For me it's usually 5 days, give or take. I love how fast they are! 5y
Branwen @Sweetkokoro Aaaaaaand I just got an email saying my box has been shipped! 😁👍 Same day! Not too shabby! 5y
Sweetkokoro Oh nice! That makes the subscription even more worth it! I‘m gonna have this book sooner then I thought! Haha and wooo yay for quick shipping! 5y
