Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory | Roald Dahl
289 posts | 842 read | 5 reading | 66 to read
Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last! But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, Our Hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

I think that this a great story for the students to think and create their own factory and allow them to express their imagination in a variety of ways.

By Roald Dahl, this story talks about a boy who finds a golden ticket which allows him to visit a local chocolate factory full of magic and wonders. This story takes the students on an adventure and becomes close to Willy Wonka.

This would be great to recommend to higher readers in third grade as an independent reading book. I think it would also be great to use as a class read aloud to interpret text and learn new reading and writing skills.

Charlie and the Chocolate factory is a fan favorite. Charlie searches for the right Wonka bar to get into the Chocolate factory. When he wins, he and his grandfather go on a wild adventure.

Day 5 of #OminousOctober & today's word is Candy.

This is one of my favourite childhood books &, although I know it's not to everyone's taste, I absolutely love the more recent film version with Johnny Depp. I think it was true to Dahl's book with a dark undertone.

Libro geniale per tutte le età, dominato dal personaggio di Willy Wonka e dal suo sottile sadismo stravagante. Recensione completa: https://www.instagram.com/p/Ciar25Uscy9/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

My kids got to see their first play today…Charlie & The Chocolate Factory at the State Theatre (in New Brunswick, NJ). It was lovely to experience the play with them; we love the book and both movies…my husband and I are partial to the Gene Wilder adaptation. 🍫🍫🍫

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Both movie versions creep me out. 7mo
JackOBotts @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I hear ya! The Tim Burton (Johnny Depp) slowly grew on me, but still second yo the original. A special mind melt is the book‘s sequel: Charles & the Great Glass Elevator…such a trip. 7mo

Another favorite by Roald Dahl. I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of the remake. I'm partial to the Gene Wilder movie. I'd give anything to visit this candy factory and tour the #Bakery

I loved Roald Dahl as a kid but somehow never read the big ones. This was better than I expected, having only seen the older movie version. I like how Wonka deals with the wretched horrible children. Now I can see the parallels in the Lemoncello books better, too. Another finish for #FabulousFebruary

I'm such a fan of this book. I love everything about it.The four grandparents living on the bed (very 2020 by the way), Charlie is so sweet, the Oompa-Loompas and their songs, Mr Wonka is SO funny and I love his logic (or should I say his illogic) behind every invention and his explanations of how things work. It's simply fantastic ♥️

Vansa Did that edition come with that lovely golden ticket? I love that! 2y
nanuska_153 @Vansa No, the notebook did, there was no reference to the ticket being included when I bought it, it was hidden in a pocket at the back of the notebook. Imagine my face when I got home and found it! The notebook is great, the other side is a chocolate bar. Randomly found it in a bookshop in Dublin a couple of years ago, no brand on it, so I can't tell you where to find one :( 2y

Finished my first book of my spring semester! I never knew before Monday that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a book and I didn‘t know half of Dahl‘s books were written by him. What a phenomenal read. I loved it. Absolutely amazing. Felt innocence bleed through the pages. And it wasn‘t so creepy like the movie...

This a low pick because I definitely liked the first movie better. This was fun on audio. There was music but the singing was a little off (maybe because I was listening at 1.75 most of the time 😂)

Even as an adult, I like reading children books. It's the first time, I've read this one. As a child, I think I only read The BFG by him, and I keep great memories of it.
As an adult, I love Roald Dahl's children books, and I also would love to discover his short stories for adults. His books offer a great escape. It's good to sometimes disconnect from our world, and this book was perfect for that.

megnews I do too! A lot of my reading this year has been middle grade fiction. No regrets. 2y
Nikki_E Confession: I have never read anything by him. 2y
Adventures-of-a-French-Reader @megnews I have two nieces who love to read, so it's great to see what some publishers have to offer, and to read things that they may be reading now or in the future. 2y
Adventures-of-a-French-Reader @Nikki_E I have a philosophy: if you haven't read a book by an author, or a classic, or the last bestseller, at least you have something great to look forward to. 2y
LiteraryinLawrence Children‘s books can be delightful for anyone! 2y

Charlie and the chocolate factory is about a little boy who is very poor. He wins a golden ticket to tour The Chocolate Factory along with 4 other children and by Mr. Wonka himself. One by One the children come to conflicts that get them taken out of the factory. The themes are kindness, hope, family, and chaos. If you like books about children and the secrets that Wonka has about making his spectacular chocolates, then you will enjoy this book.

MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Alissa! This time the focus was on POV but otherwise keep up the great work! 4/6 2y

7 books that mean a lot to me #day1

My mum worked at a playgroup when I was a lil‘un. She was a wonderful teacher and taught me (and so many others) to read at a very young age.

It breaks my heart that she has now lost almost all her words, and cannot read anymore, as she suffers from advanced early-onset Alzheimers.

I remember the day we picked this out together, and I‘ve reread it SO many times 💕

I‘ve been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory aloud to the girls. Today G kept insisting one more chapter! After three chapters, I had to stop because Florence clearly was no longer interested. Genevieve lost her ever loving shit and went on a rampage, which ended with her locking herself in the bedroom with the book. She just came out with the biggest grin on her face and whispered to me “Charlie found the fifth ticket!” 🥰
