Nominated for the 2026 Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award, The Bakery Dragon delivers the simple moral that working for gold is better than stealing. Kids will love the detailed illustrations. I plan to practice reading for details using a short list of questions. #wsccpba

Fair warning: If you were severely bullied in school, skip this one. While high school for me was not horrible, middle school was trauma. Listening to this installment of the Cupcake Bakery mystery series was a bit of a trigger, especially the first two chapters. Mel is tricked into agreeing to cater her high school reunion by her best friend Angie. Yes, tricked. And yes, her best friend, who knew everything Mel went through in high school…⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ …basically called her chicken for not wanting to cater the event. It angered me so much—best friends should know that to force someone into a traumatic situation is not healthy, much less trick them into it. There is a lot of cruelty in this edition, as Mel meets up again with all of her bullies, and one is found murdered. Of course, everyone suspects Mel, since the bully victim just “cannot take” the taunts and abuse. Ugh! Anyhow, the ⬇️⬇️ 1mo
Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ the mystery itself is clever and has some good twists to it. But, the whole bully thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. If you‘ve ever been a target, you understand. So-so listen for me, but a kudos to me for listening to the whole thing and not throwing my phone across the room! If you do pick it up, avoid the first two chapters. They‘re the worst in the book. 1mo
Luke-XVX Not nice memories to relive, I hope you‘re ok 1mo
DaveGreen7777 Sorry to hear you were bullied in school, Jess! ☹️ You are so sweet and kind, it‘s hard to fathom why anyone would treat you like that. I think some bullies envy people they see who are kinder than them, and rather than work on bettering themselves, they lash out at others instead! 1mo
Librarybelle @Luke-XVX @DaveGreen7777 Thank you for your kindness! I am okay. ❤️ 1mo

So sad. One of my most favourite Aussie Authors. Tagged book, one of my favourites in her series about a baker.

CarolynM I hadn‘t heard. That is sad😢 5mo
Jeg @CarolynM on her FB page her partner posted a longer announcement but it wouldn‘t have fitted on this page. Worth a read. 5mo
LeeRHarry It‘s very sad. I loved the Phryne books. 😢 5mo

#FeelinTheLove 🍫♥️

The Bakeshop Mystery series is a favorite of mine & it‘s currently at book 20. I loved Book 5 as it‘s set in a #Chocolate festival in Ashland, Oregon where the series takes place.

I read it for review in 2017 & made the Mango Chai Latte & Chocolate Truffles with Coffee & Almond from the recipes in the back. https://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of_1...

A beauty pageant asks for the bakery to make cupcakes for the pageant, and once again Mel and Angie are involved in a murder investigation. This one was better than some of the previous in the series, and I‘m always interested in the cupcakes (but not some of the concoctions created by the pageant participants…yuck).

Mel also has a pretty big life decision to make in this one.

Good listen! #LitsyAtoZ #LetterS #52BookClub25 #APunInTheTitle

First finish for 2025. This is the second book in the Bakeshop Cozy Mystery Series (#SeriesLive2025). A good continuation of the series. A baking competition comes to Ashland, OR and Jules is talked into being a contestant. It was a fun book, and I look forward to reading more of these series.
