This novel was such a delight! An erotic amd magical tale, wrapped in the beginnings of a beautiful love story, it made a dreadful and long flight bearable and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Paranormal #HistoricalRomance M/M
Lucien has returned from exile in China as the new Lord Crane. Strangely, he seems to have inherited the title and a curse, for he keeps trying to kill himself. He needs magical help.
Stephen Day, magician, hates the Cranes for how they ruined his family, yet he comes to Lucien's aid. Soon the two of them battle not only the "curse" but also with their mutual attraction.
A Charm of Magpies book 1
Wow. I love these books. I lost myself in Charles‘ world. I was happy that Lucien and Stephen found one another, and also angry that they had to hide their relationship. Also, they treat the women in their lives as equals: Stephen has been partnered with the Jewish Esther Gold for five years, and Lucien is great friends with the beautiful, wily Leonora Hart. A terrific historical paranormal murder mystery romance. #mm #romance #fantasy #magic
I love the way Lucien is... forceful, in a way he has that arrogant confidence of his breeding... but he also very fiercely cares about everything that his family did not. He might pin Stephen to a wall, but only as long as he really wants to be there.
First square for #BookSpinBingo! I've got books on the go for that whole column, oops.
I've been planning an epic reread of K.J. Charles' work in order, so I've started on this. Very comforting and familiar, even as the stuff happening in the story is horrible. 😅
I've set up my #BookSpinBingo card, as usual... I might try to go for last month's six bingos again -- I've placed the TBR signs to point their way to the 3 verticals, 2 horizontals, and 1 diagonal I've marked out as possible.
Maybe I could even get the left vertical...?
Haven't read something this fast in well over a year.
Good : The plot. It keeps you reading. You want to know what happens next. There are no "dull" moments. The main characters are vivid, interesting and most of all for me, present. The world building is good. You slowly get the information as is Crane. Okay: The romance. I bought it. Still, it was quite fast and sudden. But that's me and it's knitpicking.
#romance
This is my new motto.
I loved this series so much! It's like a dark fairytale and got me hooked not only on everything by K.J. Charles, but also on Historicals and M/M Romance in general. Btw., the first book is free on the Zon and comes with a super cheap audiobook (and the narration is amazing!): https://lovelyaudiobooks.info/free-romance-novels-with-audiobooks/
This was a fun fantasy/mystery/historical romance mash-up that I accidentally finished in a couple of hours once I started reading it in earnest. It really does need a content warning for self-harm and suicide, though, particularly the beginning section.
It's free on Kindle, and entertained me enough that I'll probably pick up the sequel.
This was my #BookSpin pick for this month. Thanks as always, @TheAromaofBooks!
Starting my #BookSpin book and wow, I wasn't expecting it to need a content warning for self-harm in the first paragraph 😨

1. 📚The Magpie Lord by KJ Charles
📚The Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
📚Burnt Offerings by Laurell K. Hamilton
📚One Apocalypse (The Dark Side #4)
2. ⚡️🧙🏻Ginny Weasley
3. 🥮Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker
I couldn't resist diving into this after @Centique reported on the second book in the series and now I just want to devour all of them! I'm not much for magic and the supernatural but I love the way KJ Charles writes, especially the dialogue. So much fun.
What a delightful romance full of attempted murder and magic.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a ripping yarn that kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. At first I found the romance elements an irritating distraction from the occult curse mystery but the disparate elements blended together very nicely in the last few chapters.
Ok, I finished Any Old Diamonds and wow! Alec and Jerry are HOT - sexy times are about giving up control, all consensual. I love how consent is used so clearly now, compared to what I recall reading as a kid. Decades old suspicious deaths, thievery, sexy times, betrayal, oh my!
Note: This is my first time using Bookly. I found trying to time my reading was awkward and probably not very accurate.
I read Magpie Lord over a year ago and I think I‘ll read it again so I can catch up on the series. In the meantime I‘m reading Any Old Diamonds, which was recently released. There‘s a thief. I like thieves. I‘m also using Bookly for the first time because I want to make cool infographics and I think that‘s the only way I‘m gonna make that happen.
Get ready, this fantastical fantasy/mystery mashup is hot & more than a little entertaining. Lucien Vaudrey is in danger & fears he will soon be dead unless he gets help figuring out what is going on. Enter Stephen Day who can help if he can get over the fact it‘s a Vaudrey who needs his help. The plot thickens & sparks fly as old resentments are forgotten & new bonds formed as they race to solve the mystery. The plot is thin but the fun is real.
I needed a #romantsy break and this m/m tale of a magician called in to save a lord was a fun romp. There were great characters with sharp sarcasm that really made me laugh. I would have liked a longer, more developed plot around the magic (cos it was fab🙌) but that‘s just my #currentmood. And 🔥🔥🔥 all the flames for level of heat. 😂
You can't see it on the pic but it snowing hard! 🌨️❄️🌨️🌬️🌨️☃️
The boy is watching Star Wars episode 1 (🤮), the parents are doing virtual puzzles on their computers and I'm reading in between my son's questions. My sister, husband and dog should join us for dinner at some point. We are having Chinese fondue (which is not Chinese, nor really fondue...) Good times!
Merry Christmas, Littens!!! 🎅🎄🤶🎁😘
I liked it! Different for me but it pulled me right into the story and was so charming! I definitely look forward to reading more about Crane and Stephen! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Started this last night intending to read just a chapter or two, next thing I know it's 1:30 am and I'm on the last chapter. Read the accompanying short story (felt more like an epilogue) this morning and immediately bought book 2. Historical m/m romance with magic yes please. I want more books like this. Luckily Charles has quite the backlist for me to discover. #romantsy
I loved The Magpie Lord as well as the other books in a Charm of Magpies trilogy. #9satisfiedsaturday #awesomeautumnbooks @Jess7
I may or may not be feeling a little overwhelmed with the ol' TBR, since when I tried to think of my Sept #mostanticipated I basically was like all of them? Ugh how do I take a pic of all of them? So going with my top two ebook tbrs. The Magpie Lord is one I'm hoping I'll really like, I've heard good things about KJ Charles.
#fallintobooks
Apparently Sundays are the days when I inhale read books and never leave my room until they are done.
Still forming real thoughts on this one.
#riotgrams / day 22 / #currentread / After a couple of ARC busts this month, I really needed a book win - and I am SO GETTING IT with this book! Historical-fantasy-m/m romance - it is just so freaking delightful and reads so fast - I having a feeling I'll be buying the rest in this series posthaste.
#LGBTQPride #riotgrams. I do love #romantsy novels . Here's a couple of my ebooks that I think may fit today's prompt.
This was SO much fun! What an interesting world that KJ Charles has built! The tattoo thing near the end was also very creative. I will definitely read more by this author. #ReadHarderChallenge2017 #LRC2017 #romantsy
This is a fun, very fast paced book. Pretty much every night I had to bully myself into putting it down to go to sleep, rather tha just staying up all night to finish it. I finished it this morning accompanied by a #littenkitten who would really like to point out that she, too, enjoys milk, and would be happy to dispose of any cereal milk I didn't want. #catsoflitsy
I have heard SO many great things about this author. I am really excited to start this one! #ReadHarderChallenge2017
My #littenkitten companions for a wild night of reading and sleep. It's been a long week. #catsoflitsy
Someone is using a dark magic to try to kill Lord Crane. Only magical practitioner Stephen Day may be able to stop them... and then sparks fly between them. 💕 Honestly this didn't feel like a romance novel to me because the focus was so much more on the magic and mystery and MAN it gets creepy for a minute. But the romance was endearing, and this was a really fun read. I think I'll check out more in the series.

Now reading an ARC of the next K.J. Charles that comes out in February. An Unseen Attraction is not in the Litsy database yet, so I couldn't tag it. I've been wanting to try this author, so excited to do so with her newest. Looks like it is a m/m romantic mystery. #currentlyreading #romantsy
This was a fun, quick read. This marks my fifth book finished and I have just over 16 hours read so far. It's now 5:30 here and I think I'll finally be able to fall asleep so I will see you all in a while! #24in48 #readathon
Okay I'm just shy of 14 total hours read so far, 4 full books and I'm trying to get a little more time in before going to bed. After attempting to read a few others, I started this one and I'm already hooked. I think it'll be a fun read and one I can focus on after living in so many different worlds so far today. #24in48 #readathon
Binging on KJ Charles this week- started with Think of England and ran through the Magpie Lord series
Time to catch up on my Vaginal Fantasy online book club reading! My first m/m, yay! I've heard great things about this author - I'm excited for this one! ✨
Turned to this in desperation after two days in our house of plague - thus far, surprisingly engrossing! Fascinating magic system in a Victorian-ish setting, with a (fairly steamy) male/male romance plot that has interesting things to say about power imbalance.
"The grey awful misery tangled round his heart and throat, choking him, sickening him with the vileness of his own nature. "
