Archaeologist Saul Lazenby has been all but unemployable since his disgrace during the War. Now he scrapes a living working for a rich eccentric who believes in magic. Saul knows it’s a lot of nonsense...except that he begins to find himself in increasingly strange and frightening situations. And at every turn he runs into the sardonic, mysterious Randolph Glyde. Randolph is the last of an ancient line of arcanists, commanding deep secrets and extraordinary powers as he struggles to fulfil his family duties in a war-torn world. He knows there’s something odd going on with the haunted-looking man who keeps turning up in all the wrong places. The only question for Randolph is whether Saul is victim or villain. Saul hasn’t trusted anyone in a long time. But as the supernatural threat grows, along with the desire between them, he’ll need to believe in evasive, enraging, devastatingly attractive Randolph. Because he may be the only man who can save Saul’s life—or his soul. Book 1 of the Green Men series

Soft pick. I loved the alternate history universe, the premise, and characters but the story seemed short and I wanted more explanation and plot.

Finally, a KJ Charles novel with the cover embedded! I read the first two chapters of SPECTRED ISLE while the sun went down, and I think I‘m gonna like it. It reminds me a bit of SPELLBOUND by Allie Therin, except it‘s British.

Also, I feel like Jo the seer played a role in THE SECRET CASEBOOK OF SIMON FEXIMAL, too, but it‘s been a couple years since I read it so maybe I‘m thinking of another genderqueer clairvoyant.

CarolynM It could be the same character, Simon Feximal gets talked about in this book. I'm not much for supernatural stuff so I found this book really weird, but it's KJ Charles so I enjoyed it anyway🙂 4y
xicanti @CarolynM a chapter or two after I posted this, I got confirmation the book‘s a same-world-next-generation sequel to Simon Feximal. I love it when Charles does that. 4y

@AlaMich I‘m really bad at this - it‘s not Friday & it‘s been ages. Can I blame it on the current madness?
1. Absolutely - not so much with ebooks but with things that go on my shelves, I will always buy the prettier edition if possible.
2. had this on my wishlist for a while.
3. Our local paper, the radio, TV.
4. I have about 6 alarms - 1st: wake up, 2nd-4th: read or crochet, 5th: get up, 6th: PANIC!!!!

AlaMich You‘re fine, and I‘ve decided I‘m just going to blame everything on the current madness! 😉 4y

Pretty delightful. I require more in the same world, and thankfully it exists! I might even buy it now and read it next, just 'cause.

Absolutely fantastic historical paranormal romance which draws heavily on English folklore and mythology. I totally fell in love with Saul and Glyde; fascinating and tragic characters who find what they are missing in one another. Highly recommended to anyone who likes paranormal romance. #mmromance #paranormalromance #kjcharles
