To Kill a Mockingbird: A Graphic Novel
To Kill a Mockingbird: A Graphic Novel | Harper Lee, Fred Fordham
A beautifully crafted graphic novel adaptation of Harper Lees beloved, Pulitzer prizewinning American classic. "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember its a sin to kill a mockingbird." A haunting portrait of race and class, innocence and injustice, hypocrisy and heroism, tradition and transformation in the Deep South of the 1930s, Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird remains as important today as it was upon its initial publication in 1960, during the turbulent years of the Civil Rights movement. Now, this most beloved and acclaimed novel is reborn for a new age as a gorgeous graphic novel. Scout, Gem, Boo Radley, Atticus Finch, and the small town of Maycomb, Alabama, are all captured in vivid and moving illustrations by artist Fred Fordham. Enduring in vision, Harper Lees timeless novel illuminates the complexities of human nature and the depths of the human heart with humor, unwavering honesty, and a tender, nostalgic beauty. Lifetime admirers and new readers alike will be touched by this special visual edition that joins the ranks of the graphic novel adaptations of A Wrinkle in Time and The Alchemist.

I'm having one of those moments I haven't had in a few years, where I get both melancholy for my late #ADHD diagnosis (at 24) and grateful (better late than never). #Audiobooks are a godsend, library ones exponentially so. It still astounds me I managed to (barely) graduate law school undiagnosed, but this classic of my profession has sat on my shelf unread for 5 years. Now I'm a third of the way through, having only started it four hours ago 😊

Reading the comments, i am skeptical if any of the commentators actually read the complete book. What is the point of speeding through school if you didn‘t learn anything of use? And taking the test together is pointless unless we all are going to crash together or soar together. Love, G0d. Because God is Love.

I don‘t think it will come as any surprise, but I‘m going to say it for the record, anyway: I wholeheartedly recommend To Kill A Mockingbird. Read it out of curiosity, read it for the cultural capital, read it for nostalgia, read it for the questions it raises – just read it! It is accessible and engaging for all readers, of any age, anywhere in the world. Full review here: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/to-kill-a-mockingbird-harper-lee/

I was initially forced to read this and I am not going to lie the first few chapters took a minute for me to get through but once the story started to get going I couldn‘t put it down. The way Harper Lee was able to incorporate so many metaphors and life lessons all compact into one tiny story amazed me. I highly recommend this novel for anyone who enjoys classics or a real thought provoking tale!

It‘s taken me a long time to get round to reading this, but finally I did. Lee does go into some depth describing events that don‘t drive the story forward much, but apart from that, it is a book rightly placed on the list of 1001 books to read before you die.

Just finished this classic .. it was kind of a slow read. No exciting events not really anything special I personally think it‘s overrated , however it taught me new perspectives in life and it was interesting to live in the point of view of a child (scout) and see how innocent and simple children‘s thoughts really are .. #classic #literature #tokillamockingbird #whitegurl #starbucks #3stars

I saw the play on Broadway earlier this month and had to compare with a reread of the book. This story and these characters hold up well to an adult reread. It is a classic for a reason after all.

Side note: I really didn't like what Aaron Sorkin did to Atticus Finch to make a 2019 political point when I watched the play, and I like it even less after a reread of the book.

KatieDid927 It‘s been a few months since I‘ve seen it, can you remind me how Aaron changed Atticus? 2mo
ScientistSam @KatieDid927 Atticus in the play is painfully naive to the point he's weak. I wondered whether I'd find him naive in the book when I reread it as an adult, but he's actually pretty realistic, just also a really good man. For example, in the play, Atticus thinks Tom will be acquitted. In the book, he thinks they have a shot at acquittal at appeal, but knows they will lose the case. In the play, the jury takes barely any time to decide. 👇 2mo
ScientistSam In the book, it takes hours, which is considered a victory for that day and age. (Which in itself is terrible of course, but Lee is showing that.) @katiedid 2mo
KatieDid927 @ScientistSam Ah yeah yep, all true and good points. I saw the play about 3-4 months ago but haven‘t reread the book yet so I felt there were some changes but couldn‘t pinpoint them as accurately as you did here. Thanks! 2mo
